Make sure your RTL is off cooldown before engaging, and lightning flash also helps. Once that mez or thief is about to deliver the finishing blow or disappears in stealth (as that is inevitable), smack that air 4 button and WHOOSH! your in the clear! that'll teach em!

They nerfed CnD damage by 33% so as to allow players to not be instagibbed by the ridiculous mug+CnD combo. You probably got unlucky with critical hits :/ That's the inherent problem with the thief class. It's instagibb based on chance and super reflexes.
