Isn't this class still fun to play?

I keep reading about how bad the damage is, and they still get nerfed to shit in every other patch! Why? I found the first few levels quite cool (Beta days) and the Attunement system is one of the best I've seen in an MMO. Is is really bad at high levels/sPvP/WvWvW/Dungeons as some claim?

I don't post this to start a Flame Duel lol. Honest opinions needed as I have VERY little time to play nowadays, and wouldn't want it invested in a broken/breaking class which no manner or amount of skill can make competitive. Now I don't mind a good challenge, but... how do I put it lol. I hope y'all can help haha.

Taishar elementalists!

EDIT: Just checked out those bugs the new update "patched" in 5 mins ago. Sheesh....

Despite being forced into a very specific build, having no viable burst build, countless bugs, and having to play Beethoven's 5th on the keyboard to counter one button spamming thieves, this is still the only profession that is fun to play for me. Everything else just feels so.... slow, simple and mind-numbingly boring in comparision.

A class of this design will always have shaky balance. However, I think that being fun to play is one of the best things this class has going for it and nothing short of breaking attunement swapping will make it any less fun.

It is. The GW2G ele community is just full of crybabies that do nothing but complain about everything and cry over every bullet point in the patch notes.

Not even rangers bitch this much and they have all the right to do it because they are the shittiest proffession in the game (have to rely on awful pet AI/pathing, shitty utility selection, poor trait distribution, etc).

Wow that neatly sums it up I guess. Heck, Assassin classes are always the biggest problem for us Cloth classes. Used to it so I can prolly deal with it. Any input regarding my other question?

For PvEasy? We're fine. There's a tradeoff of damage and group utility. We always have group utility available so our potential damage is actually a bit lower than most other classes. It's still better than Necros though.

A lot of our skills and traits could use tweaking for PvX. Good news is that Jon Peters finally got around to testing this class and has taken feedback so we'll see.

For WvWvW we have two effective builds: Glass cannon staff and D/D bunker roamer. The former is good for zergs while the latter is good for roaming and picking off players and being really annoying to small groups.

Ahh I see. PvEasy as you put it xD.

Well Necromancer was the only other class I was considering at this moment, but the horrible AI on minions put me off for now. As for WvWvW, I haven't given it a shot cuz my PC is a tad on the weaker side, I think it'll walk away from me if I ever went close to a PvP zerg rush. The bunker(?) roamer sounds more like me! I'll research into it some. Thanks for your inputs.

Most fun I have ever had with an MMO class. Been playing since launch and I keep coming back for more. Sure there are some problems, but there always are with every class in every MMO I have ever played. After awhile you learn that initial reactions to "nerfs" are usually over-reactions, and that you just gotta roll with the punches or gtfo and do something else with your time.

Its awesome fun!  If you like several things:  Do you like needless nerfs when NOONE asked for it?  Do you like your other abilities that were completely useless to continue to be that way with no hope in sight?  Do you like to see the idiots at Arena Nets favorite class the thief still able to put out 20k+ damage while being stealthed or invulnerable in 4 seconds and havent gotten ONE patch to even remotely tone that down?  Yet grenades get a 10/15% nerf to damage on my engineer that are SOOO easy to avoid its pathetic.

And the only spec ele's have that prolonged their lives while still doing some damage took a hit last patch.  Arena Net has quickly become a company to avoid in the future for me.  Never seen a company just do sweeping nerfs w/o doing fixes as well to other lines so classes could have an alternate choice to go.  Nope Arena Net apparently nerfs first then fixes much much much later.

One more class I play, ie elementalist, engineer mainly,  gets a nerf without thieves being touched in some form an Arena Net can eat my balls.  Ill go back to play Dark Age of Camelot where its a tad zergy at times but still the best pvp in any game ever.

I love my ele.. I do the staff glass cannon in pve and wvw.. lots of fun. I always play mages or eles and don't really care about nerfs or buffs unless they get out of hand (re: wow) and just screw up the class. I also don't have much time to play but i knew i would enjoy the ele and i do... mesmer is greatsword mesmer is also lots of fun, got her up to 38 and lots of fun with the illusions.

Quite a similar outlook as me! I play a game/class to have FUN and that mostly means lazy leveling making alts or crafting and stuff! Since I've never played any game right after release, I've almost never faced class balance/glitch issues :P.

This game will be my first in that aspect =/

I started with Ranger.  I moved to Engineer.  I picked up Guardian and tried out a necro.  About a month ago i decided to try Ele.

Ele has been my go-to ever since.  It's definitely an active class and i dont mind that i have to constantly be swapping attunements (sometimes for no other reason than just the swapping effects/boons).  I really enjoy the class and its by far the most fun.

My next most fun is actually the guardian.  Despite not having as many skills as an engineer or ele, I really like the play style and i definitely dont find myself standing around too much.  so guardian ranks #2 for me.

Of course it's fun.

Eles might be outclassed in some aspects but they still bring good utility and unrivaled AoE damage.

Any class for a newly launched MMO is going to have problems, but even with them, eles have a diverse skill setup, flashy playstyle, fast paced as hell, good sustain, good AOE damage, and mid-high skill cap. Whats not to like?
