“NCsoft is realigning internal publishing resources to better suit the needs of our game development studios,” Davis told PC Gamer. “As a result of the realignment, several employees and contract positions were affected. This was a very tough decision to make and wish the best for all NCsoft employees in their next ventures.” Davis didn’t elaborate on the extent of the restructure nor of any possible effects to Guild Wars 2.

While we are indeed a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation (read NCsoft HQ), we are also our own entity. ArenaNet has not been affected by the NCwest realignment. And indeed, we are hiring: http://www.arena.net/jobs/

Doubtful, but I love the spin!  To paraphrase: "OMG!  We have 2 many employeez!  We can't do a good job ov supporting the studioz with all these ppl!  We fired sum to make it better!"

The doubtful is, I don't think - now that the game is out - the state of the publisher has much impact on the game.

This is the end! Oh my word... Nexon are going to buy NCSoft, turn Guild Wars 2 into more of a pay to win game than it already is and probably introduce a subscription fee to the game in order to get back the money they lost over this year! This will all happen before 21st of December 2012! It will all end then! This is the end!

So... in reality, some people got fired? Okay.

Less people to work on the game means less game fixes in a timely manner?  Not only that, but Colin's recent title change makes sense now.

Anet fail could rival that of biofail imo.

It's more that Nexon is screwing with NCsoft, who in turn are screwing with ArenaNet. The change has been obvious of late. Vertical progression, tellling us that GW1 was a shit game, reinforcing their notions of how GW2 should be a WoW also-ran, and so on. The developer AMA told us much. Nexon is pulling the strings, currently. And they're the ones up top. Most of us were suspicious when Cox was brought on board at ArenaNet, and those suspicions turned out to be valid.

So it's not so much that NCsoft is impacting them, but just that Nexon is readjusting the NCsoft and their franchises to better suit their sense of greed.

Nexon 14-15% stake is Minority Interest and not controlling share that can such make huge changes within NCSoft, so this is more likley of NCSoft's doing than anything else, time will tell if and when more info comes out. Also NCsoft laid off roughly 2% of its global workforce in October 2011 as part of its restructuring plans.

If there are 8 or 9 investors, Nexon could have the majority share.

They only have 14-15% and not 51% to be controlling party, if they are controlling party all the headlines would be saying just that instead of them buying 14-15%. Huge differance.

I get the feeling that there are people on this forum that check underneath their bed at night to see if there are any Nexon employees there.

this is the continuation of a troubling trend.

I think the quaint days of GW1 (and the feel-good carryover to GW2) are as over as they can possibly be.

keep in mind, when you here news about NCSoft. . . its generally dealing with the main S. Korea branch of the business.  theyre based out of S. Korea.  so you guys see "NCSoft" and you automatically think its going to directly affect waht's going on here when its like, no, ANet is USA, NCSoft main is Korea.

im willing to put money down that that article was pertaining to internal adjustments at their main HQ in korea and has very little to do with ANet in AMERICA.

oh yeah, i missed that hardcore heh heh. . .  so yeah, thats a wrap.

but yeah, 15% is a lot of influence in a company.  if they have influence to hire in a "monetization manager" - id say taht was pretty vested. . .

ArenaNet is in Bellevue, not Seattle. I mean this might still affect them in some fashion but let's not jump to conclusions just yet.

This is why so many gaming company's now are skipping the whole publisher and big partner company's route amd going with crowd funding and kickstarter, to avoid all the extra bullshit, red tape and politics that effect the end result of the game.

I think we can all see where GW2 is going. They can say whatever they like at this point, there word means nothing.

Terrible news. Its going to affect NCsoft, but I can see this coming to Anet too. If they fire some people the game which is already as disastrous as a game could possibly be will never get fixed. Time for shipjumping.

I've been at IBM for 23 years.  They've restructured so many times I've lost count and yet, I'm still here and we're still thriving.  Restructuring happens in this economy.  Doesn't mean the game is going down.

BTW, Elderscrolls Online is going to be subscription.  You want to go to Firefall.  I'm in the beta weekend this weekend.

Yeah, but my point is is that Nexon likely isn't helping with their "advice." It was most assuredly their "advice" that brought the plague of Cox to ArenaNet. You could only do worse than that if you hired Bill Roper.

I love how some people cheer to the unemployment of people they don't even know, just out of spite for a game they bought that didn't fulfil their wishes to their fullest satisfaction.

Petty. Grow up.

So axe is fallen and heads are rolling......

In my opinion, with knowledge about Colin`s new position people from Anet took axe !
There is two possible parties that got axe`d:

1.People that was against recent changes (Ascended gear....and such)

2.People that actually pushed that concept into "Live" version, thus causing people leaving and drop of sales....

If first option is true, we are pretty much screwed, if second option is true then there might be some hope....third one i didn`t even wanted to mention but let`s do it anyway for the sake of talk :P !

When owner company want`s to make example of their subordinates they sack people off but they usually put "their own" man in charge, the thing is they usually pick nastiest piece of work they can`t find (but loyal as German Shepherd dog) now this person looks everything trough numbers and creativity and kind words don`t mean anything to him. If this is the case we are triple screwed !!!
