Hi everyone,

I've played 4 characters to level 80. I enjoyed levelling, but now i'm at lvl 80 and have a character i really enjoy, i'm looking at acquiring some goodlooking gear. i have my eye on my cultural t3, but this costs quite a bit of money.
is there any way to earn reasonable cash through playing the game? my playtime is kind of limited, since i'm working normal hours (get up at 6 in the morning and get home 7 in the evening leaves me with about 2 hours of playtime a day). weekends are spent with the family

i can't do fractals, as the frequent disconnects make these too timeconsuming to finish.
most dungeons also take too long to finish on a weekday evening.
i have zero interest in farming the same events/mobs over and over again.
playing the trading post also takes too much time (or so i hear, i haven't tried bulk trading on it)

does anyone have any suggestions how i can get some ingame money to spend? i'd rather earn it than just buying gems.

In the current market, and the level of nerfed drops, forget about the game for a while till they fix the drop rates (if they ever intend to do) and play some better game.

Well thats a helpfull answer. It seems he enjoys the game and you tell him to leave it. What i do is play the game and craft rares when i have the mats. I either sell them or try my luck to salvage them for ecto and sell those.

The ever returning question

I want to earn loads of money as fast as possible, because I have no time.

Answer: earning money, the legal way, takes time period
You mentioned the best possibilities for earning gold in-game but excluded them all because of lack of time.
Therefore, if you want to earn money faster than practicably possible and without doing any effort beyond the average,  you'll have to find more questionable ways to do so, but that will not be within the constraints of the game (EULA etc.).

Buying gold (when your rich) through black lion gems or by other darker means: what's the fun of that?
Hacking the game
pay someone to grind for you etc etc.

I seriously doubt the satisfaction/pleasure you'll have in the end when flashing your top/elite/legendary armor and gear in LA

Start doing other dungeons daily, AC is a good place to start. (short, I only have 2 hours a day too and it's more than sufficient).
It's a casual igood way to make money and get new equipment. Once you've saved up for cultural you can already have your exotic set to transmutate it on.

I'm sorry to say that if you don't want to farm, play the market or do dungeons, there's nothing left for you to do to gain your goal.

You got an advice? Give it to him, great! Don't have to sound all "oh so goody" by quoting my post and trying your 'luck' with sarcasm.

He asked about making money, so I gave him the simplest straightforward answer pertaining to current situation. The nerfs on drop rates are pathetic as of now. So with the limited time he has, just like me, he's better off enjoying some other game and coming back when they fix the drop rates. I love playing the game as much as he does, but the drop rates and increasing prices of everything, farming isn't fun and making gold is highly difficult for someone who has limited playtime.

Take it from someone who's half way through to getting legendary and suddenly hitting this wall of no-drops and not willing to go further until its fixed.

I am quite sure that drop-rate was fixed in one of the later patches. I get loads of greens and yellows around the world.

The latest patch was yesterday, immediately after which I did Balthazar event (The all-famous BALTHAZAR EVENT where some even got precursors!). Took 20 mins for the first round failed. We tried again, most of us died atleast once, but managed to finish it after maybe 30-45mins. I ran with full MF gear, food, and all that zing. Got 2 blues and a green from the chest, some green from the risen priest and nothing from champion abomination.

If you actually read the thread you posted people are actually acknowledging the fact that they have gotten more drops. So clearly they have done something about it.

Doing a run of Fractals (and there should be more than enough time for the OP to do that. I have about the same amount of time and still does at least one run per day) should give quite a few greens, blues and at least a couple of yellows or orange.

dungeons don't take 2 hours. maybe 30-60 minutes for a path depending on which dungeon and what path. Also the trading post takes no time whatsoever to work. Putting in buy orders only takes a few minutes and selling them later takes another few minutes

A handful, lucky handful. Rest, which are majority of the people in that thread, still don't have any luck with drops.

OP posted he/she doesn't want to do fractals with DC issues or any other dungeons. So yeah, otherwise I wouldn't mind mentioning Fractals or AC for that matter which still gives you decent gold per run.

I'm not one to preach against the game, only asking him to take a break and play a diff. game given the terms & conditions posted by OP, and the current conditions.

I suggest crafting rares and exotics when you get the materials. On average, an exotic ring or armor piece fetches 3g.

The best way, imo, to get cash and enjoy the game without being in th TP 24/7 or grinding the risen army until exaustion, is to do dungeon runs with your guild, set a schedule and have fun. you get a decent amount of money, some tokens wich you can trade for equipment to do whatever you want (even salvage). you will aso probably get materials wich you can turn into rares and get some ectos. Wich is great because the prices are rising.

Dont listen to that guy that said that the drop rate screwed the economy, its quite the oposit.

This will not be the fastest way, but sure beats going around the world solo in the hopes of getting a decent drop.

Playing the Trading Post doesn't have to take a lot of time, you just have to find a niche in there.

I have about the same game time as you, maybe less. I play the TP for 5-15 minutes when I log on and before I log off. I make on average 2-5g each day (depending on how much I put up the previous night and when I log in next).

This doesn't seem a great amount, but considering I play for 2-5 hours every couple of days, I think its a nice way to make gold. While still having enough time to play the game (WvW, Mapping, etc)

That said I then use most of that gold to invest in more items, so total profit per day comes out around 1-3g depending.

thanks for all the helpful replies guys.
so far crafting rares and exotics seems to be coming out ahead.
dungeons seem like an alternative, but i'm not in a guild and don't really have time to pug. i'll be looking into joining a guild once i settle on a server to call home (i left my first home server about a week ago, testing out a couple of alternatives).

i've gotten up to level 2 when the fractals had just released.
sadly, i've tried for a few days in a row now with no positive experiences.
first day i couldn't find enough players to join my party, and had wasted an hour standing in LA.
the second day i could find 4 players, but then it started to take quite a long while finding our 5th, and people started leaving before i found someone.
yesterday i did get a group together. someone disconnected in the first fractal, after which we had to return to the central chamber (since our group was simply lacking the damage to kill the boss). then another person left the group because they were sick of wasting time looking for another.

so yeah, fractals are on hold for now :\

I'm sure your reason to be pissed off at the current state of the game with regards to drops is valid for you - I can see how this is hugely frustrating if you're trying to get a legendary. But responding to advice threads with negativity and asking people to basically boycot the game because you're pissed off isn't really going to get you marks for helpfulness. Although mentioning that there is a problem with drop rates is in itself helpful as some might not know about it.

@OP: as has been mentioned, if you don't have time to make money then you basically don't have time to play at all. It really doesn't take that long to do a dungeon run (CoF exp 15 mins or a single fractal 15-20 mins - though we have had disconnects as well which sucks) or spend some time farming Orr with MF kit. Ori ores and Gossamer scraps sell well. Doing map completion of high level zones also helps as you can salvage the exotics you get and sell the sigils/ectos (though this is less efficient). And crafting exotics ofc but you need the mats for that and you get those by farming. Usually the total cost of mats is about equal to the price you get from selling the finished product, though there is a small profit margin to be had.

Edit: you replied in the time I typed this so disregard the fractal bit etc :P

the dungeons themselves do not take that long, but it takes quite a while to get a group together (even with gw2lfg).
I also think doing your daily is pretty important for a steady cashflow (correct me if i'm wrong), so i would need some time left over after the dungeon to finish what is left.
the trading post may not take time to work, but it takes time to find items that are good to invest in.

i have never run CoF, not even in story mode. i do not have exotic gear. i do not have magic find gear (though i'm planning to get this before my t3). i find it very hard to believe that i can run CoF exp in 15 mins.

map completion is a pretty valid opinion, i think i'll start with that, since this also gives me mats to sell.
do the rewards for lower level maps scale nowadays?

I make about 5 to 7g running around Orr, getting into trouble with my friends.  I am always collecting rares but I am full magic find.  I break down all rares with a Lion Express salvage kit for the ectos.  I sell everything I collect.

I love how it's all "it just takes 15 mins to run this or that" yeah maybe with 1) a fully experienced and smooth group and 2) after you've entered the dungeon.

For those people who don't have a regular guild/friends group it can take half an hour to form a group, then a lot longer in the run when you have PUG's or mistakes etc.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

I suggest the OP to play as a sheep with cheap mf rare gear for all of his gametime, as a provider. Farm mats like a bot, endless. You will end up with some cash, to enjoy cool looking stuff. No, don't point too high, some things are unreachable for your gametime.

To make some money I would run a fractal daily, and then break down rares to try and get ecto's and sell them on the TP. They were like 33 silver each last night. If you get disconnected that is not the best route, but they plan on fixing this issue. I would also try listing items you get on the TP so when you log in the next day you might have some money waiting for you. Would also try harvesting every node you can to try and put anything and everything on the market

The problem is that they arent making it a priority! I am lvl2 fractals and wont step in any longer since i will eventually get disconnected as i always do doing fractals and have to start over. After so many attempts i give up and not even worried about it anymore. If thats the way anet wants to go then let them. ill probably stop playing when i complete the 100% map anyway, which btw its a great way to get money!

I'm throwing my lot in with dumping GW2 and playing something less punishing and hateful, something that doesn't put taxes upon your head just for being (what kind of sane person wants to play a game like that).

ME3's multiplayer is still fun! GW1 is still fun! Marvel Heroes looks like it might be okay, since it subscribes to instanced play rather than the whole 'massively' thing (which I've since lost faith in thanks to GW2). So... yeah. Play something more fun.

If you are struggling to find a group try gw2lfg.com I find a group on there pretty fast all the time.

I usually do 3 runs of AC or 2 runs of COF a day - it takes about 1 hour and i get 75s from the AC runs plus all the loot. I also gout loads of magic find on and the drops get better.

Try to find a guild that you can play with even if it's jsut after a good dungeon run you ask for invites. If you join a lot of guilds you will have a lot of options.

Don't quit the game thats the worst advice ever! This form is full of people who are bitching about the game - I think it's great and I'm happy to look past the issues!

Failing that keep hoping to pick up that one excellent drop. I was lucky enough to loot a precurser during the lost shores weekend and managed to sell it for 200G - money issues are over :)
