For me RPGs are about story and world depth (well and some other, smaller details), not graphics.
And saying "I mean, for it's time sure it was good, but now even looking at it makes me feel slightly ill." sound like it's Beth's fault they released it back then when technology wasn`t at such level and thus game is worse because it have worse graphic. But trust me, most of the fans will tell you Daggerfall is best out of all TES games :)
It's like comparing... hmm... any modern game to tetris for example (or any old game). You won`t play it just because it have outdated graphics?
Graphics doesn`t make RPG games, keep it in mind.
Oh and I`m sure I spent more time playing Daggerfall then Morrowind and Oblivion combined.
ummmm ive never played morrowind but my friend told me that there was no real story and that the quests were really badly handeled. He had a god like character and never found the quests to get to the final boss (but instead found his hideout before hand and had epic never ending fights in lava with the boss (because he can only be killed with a precise quest item)) so ya random sandboxes dosnt sounds really fun to me..
I played Oblivion and loved it although the main story was kinda lame. The guild quests made up for it I guess. (did every single quests in the game. took me 100 hours)

No real story that won IGN's readers' choice best story of 2002? Interesting.
I never had problems with main quest in Morrowind, your friend must have been pretty bad honestly. And from the way you speak I guess he expected quest to be right outside location where Dagoth'ur ("final boss") was. Main quest chain was really long and it was great, and you couldn`t just skip it to last quest.

Well actually you could:
:D
But still Morrowind has one of the best Storylines in the History of RPGs. You never know who is good or bad, or if there even is a good or bad. And Dagoth Ur is so likeable, it's almost sad that you have stop him. :(

Ahh...Nostalgia, how you blind people.
Comparing all three now it would probably go Morrowind=Oblivion>Daggerfall>Arena.

My favourite mods were always the ones that added houses in different places. I also liked the banking mod and university mod in Morrowind.

Ah, yeah I know which ones you're talking about. I mostly when for the ones that enhanced the graphics, like natural environment and better water. Along with better LOD view, made the game look ten time better. Also better postures, because I hated the they made the character stand all hunched over. Lastly a damage modifier, because I hated how you had to slash someone 80 before they died. I think it's called Phitt's Phiting Pixies, makes battles much more realistic, shorter, and harder depending on who you are fighting. You basically have a new game depending on which mods you put in.

Oh yeah I had a few like the better environment and so on, they did make a difference, though I think I tried a couple of different ones.
There was also a mod to add children lol...I had that one, don't ask me why :D

Yes maybe "all the fans" will stick up for Daggerfall, but the thing is a lot of people didn't grow up playing games when the graphics were that...limited....so we are use to a much higher standard. The thing is, you must also understand that both our opinions are "biased", cuz it seems you look back on it so well because you were so fond of it at the time, but I don't have that so all I see is something which looks far too unrealistic.
I guess I should also apoligize for insulting something you obviously really like, but I do really find it hard to enjoy a lot of really old games.

Some of them can be a pain, I know what you mean. I have had to uninstall/reinstall the game at least 10 times by because the mods would mess up on me. People say OBMM manager helps, but I never used it. Didn't really need to, I would just drag and drop the .esp files. I did have to use OBSE for some of the mods though, took a bit to understand but got it eventually.

Never knew about the children mod, as long as you didn't go around killing them you're all good. I'll take some more pictures and post them up. These are a bit old, don't think they have the right water mod or increased vegitation.

I haven't tried the Ancient Towers mod, I tried a couple of other quests and adventures one. Like heard of the dead and or the Elsywere desert mod.

Elswyre mod is very impressive. It's by far my favorite mod. It's like a free expansion (although the city of Dune isn't completely done).

Tell me about it, the creator went all out. Throw in a few quests and it's just as good as an expansion.

The only reason I rarely play is because when I rebooted my computer a year or so back, I forgot to backup my Oblivion saves. That hurt.
