When the Tyrian Explorer's Society sends me a letter saying "hey, nice job for exploring!" that's nice.

But when they send a gift - repeatedly - of crap I can't use, it somewhat mitigates the 'personalized' feel that's supposed to give us.

Really, how hard would it be to code the exploration rewards to be something that toon could actually use?  My toon might be a delicate female wearing flowing robes and dresses.  Did I look like I really needed a giant, gothic set of spiked steel armor?

Well everyone can be turned to the gothic spikey side :) But yeah it does suck a bit, but just sell those items and buy one you could use with the proceeds.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

My thoughts on the good people of the Tyrian Explorer's Society:
"True generosity is the ability to accept ingratitude"

I quite like it when I can't use it because it means I salvage and sell the sigil netting me 1-3g. I make exotics through crafting anyway so that I actually get the stats I want.

The last area I did, I received two coats.  One light, one heavy.  I was on my ranger...  Yes, it would indeed be nice if I got something I might actually be able to use.  Then let me make up my mind if I really want to use it or salvage/sell it.  But this way, they're making my choice for me.

I never knew why they did not do the zone completion reward like the personal story. I should get a choice of what armor/weapon I want to pick

They can be quite useful. If you didn't receive something your character could use, perhaps an alt can use? My mesmer received a pair of exotic leggings from completing a map, and another character i have got an exotic chest piece from another map completion. Saved my Mesmer some equping effort for level 70. On top of that we also get materials quite useful for crafting, all in all i think it's win/win.

My Thief has the nasty habit of receiving things for my Warrior.
I haven't played enough on my Warrior yet to see if it goes the other way around though.

It does seem like I get a lot of stuff for other classes from map completions. But if I can't use it, I can usually sell it for a bit of money so it's not like it's a complete loss. The crafting mats are always a welcome reward though.

I am completely convinced that the game disproportionately gives you rewards and drops that you cannot use to encourage you to use the TP or roll alts.

I do get frustrated getting armor or weapons I can't use.  Skins I don't like is cosmetic and not really an issue as you mainly just use those for a few levels until you get higher level armor.

Not sure if it's indeed intended; my new mesmer finds 80% heavy armour in the starter zones .. ^_^

I was kind of bummed out when I completed Cursed Shore for the first time and received 2 exotic level 78 (or maybe level 76) items!  What a let down since I already had level 80 exotics on, I was hoping for (at least) a cool new skin...but instead I got medium armor and a warhorn on my warrior...I guess my 80 ranger can use them, but bah...he can do Cursed Shore on his own.

Riiiiight. Because people are getting exotics with Divinity Runes so often that people should just shut up right? Oh wait, they're not, that's why they're so damn expensive which is why you brought them up in the first place! I mean your point completely contradicts itself.

I don't think this is a huge issue but it's still pretty dumb that you don't even get appropriate items for your character. But then again, you can also get items for other alts. See, that's me seeing all sides of an issue and not completely dismissing others' views and being a complete tool!

See the portion in bold for a complete dismissal of an opposing view.

On topic:
I haven't actually done map completion since launch, as I don't really roll alts, so it's hard for me to remember how much of what I got was useful; but I do seem to recall TPing a bunch of my exploration rewards after receiving them.

Ironic and hypocritical on your part since you completely ignored the fact that I pointed out the upside of getting items for alts when receiving RNG items. How is that complete dismissal when I made a point for the "opposing side"?

Also, you clearly didn't understand that the other guy making the argument that a rare chance of getting lucky with RNG is flawed because that rare chance is well... rare. Which is why that item he mentioned is so expensive (well that and the demand for it). But it's not a common find and it applies to not getting the appropriate item for your character. How hard is it to understand people's frustration on RNG? Now how about that lecture on complete dismissal?

Geezus.

It's the reward you get from map completion.

I am pretty sure that this is intended... if everyone only receives stuff that they can use the market probably would collapse (for a big part).

I got  "Rampager's Staff" x2 for completion of malchor's leap on my guard. Lvl 76.

I got  "Rampager's Staff" x2 for completion of cursed shore on my guard. Lvl 76 (iirc).

Yep.

And that may quite be the case or they wanted the player to get items for another toon/alt. I noticed on light armored toons I got mostly heavy and sometimes a few medium armored toon items. On Heavy just the opposite.

I've recieved almost 4 complete sets of medium armor and 2 sets of heavy armor. Not just from exploration but drops and stuff, yet I have recieved a grand total of 0 light armors which is what I wear, I hate RNG. The money from it is nice but I really like the feeling of getting your own armor as a drop :/

Hey, I get it - 2/3 of the armor is NATURALLY going to be 'not for my toon' because there are 3 types and no cross-dressing allowed.
But when my light-armor toon hit 80, I had to gear up via the TP for at least 5 pieces, when my bank is SWOLLEN with heavy/medium (90% heavy - 22 out of 24 pieces) rare/exotic.  My medium-armor thief, on the other hand, just completed two zones, got 3 light and 1 heavy rare (prompting my post).

I understand the RNG.  "Improbable" doesn't mean conclusively there's a bias algorithm at work.  But "improbable" is, nevertheless, improbable.

Rewards you (allegedly) get from the 'Tyrian Explorers' should be at least POSSIBLY relevant to your character, and not just stupid random crap they found in the storage closet.  Sure, it's nice to get Christmas presents, but it's not ingratitude to roll one's eyes when the present your Aunt picked out for you (AGAIN and AGAIN) is something you not only don't want but CANNOT USE.

Yes, I'll say it: ANet's RNG is like a dude getting Tampax for Christmas.

Why load up your bank? With so many people getting gear they cannot use/do not want to use, one would think that it would be a simple matter to go to the TP and trade your gear for someone else's.

This begs a secondary question as well: let's say the game started rewarding armor classes appropriate to everyone's profession. Would you then want them to provide stats that match your trait setup as well? If you need light Cleric's armor and got light Carrion armor, it is just as worthless to you and you're not much better off than if you had gotten medium or heavy armor.

I suspect you don't have to be a dude for that to be a horrible Christmas gift. :P

My ranger just got a sword that sold for 7g and some heavy armor with a divinity rune.  Sucks that I don't wear heavy armor, huh?  What a ripoff.  Come to think of it, I get angry every time I get a drop out killing mobs that I can't use.  What poor game design, am I right?

I just want a pony. That's all I want. But when I complete a map, they never give me one.

Oh wait, I just completed one. Okay. Here goes, I'm about to click on the jiggling chest... wish me luck!

...

Oh kitten. No pony. No pony whatsoever.
