Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again!

This year the Wintersday Workshop starts a little later and lasts a lttle longer than usual, but we hope to see participation remain the same; active, creative and saturated with holiday cheer!

The goal of the Workshop

is creative and artistic growth, regardless of skill level or medium. We encourage every participant to facilitate this growth by actively posting progress of their work and giving and receiving constructive criticism on everything posted in the thread. We also strongly support and encourage each participant to submit their art to the Official Guild Wars Wintersday Contest if applicable - however this is no prerequisite to join the Workshop.

We welcome everyone.

Guild Wars 1 and 2

are both relevant this year. Your entry may be based on either or both, and the prizes are awarded in both games. If you win you can choose to accept both, or just one. Any excess goods will be split evenly amongst the other winners. As usual, donations to the prize pool from any of the two games are welcome!

Cute, playful and beautifully crafted, the judges decided this entry would be Tixx' favourite. It's clear that a great deal of effort has been put into this piece, and while it's not traditionally Wintersday in the common sense, this is a gift any child would be excited to unwrap come that special season.

The old gods celebrating Wintersday GW1 style was a festive blast from the past! This was a detailed and expertly painted artwork which was immediately nostalgic. The portrait of Colin from GW2's manifesto also ties it to the future of the GW universe.

New this Wintersday we are running a Screenshot competition parallel with the Workshop! Take a Wintersday themed Screenshot and post it in the thread to participate. You may only submit 1 screenshot to the competition and it can be cropped but not otherwise touched up in an image editing program. This means no changes to colours, contrast, brightness or otherwise.

Winner: Hailfall
Hailfall's originality and humour won the judges over this year. The screenshot had a clear narrative, solid composition and clear resolution.

Now I finally had an idea for the Wintersday Calender  but it seems the Nicholas' Award is begging me to change subject. Because I'm going after that artbook!

I need to check (and therefore first install GW1 again >.>) my inventory over there, but I think I can offer 250 (In gw1) ecto to the prizepot. For the ones who still want some extra to get those fancy HoM awards!

Is literary works allowed? (I always ask this when I don't see it specified just cuz)
For the Nicholas Reward, is that the Art of Guild Wars or the Art of Guild Wars 2 - cuz if its the former, that means its a book that came only in Proph CE which is o.o so I'm guessing its the latter. (And what's this Oink Bank Card?)

The book is the original (2005), the Oink Bank card is actually 2 papercraft cards by Katy Hargrove which make a cut out Oink - does that help?

Yes, of course! All art forms are welcome in the workshop. If we have several literary entries then I will likely add a new award for written works.

Completed works, since they won't be revised or subject to constructive criticism, will just not be eligible for the Best Progress Awards.
Also remember you can enter 2 pieces! And you could consider further polishing or reworking your calendar entry now that you have the chance to receive some constructive crit!

And fortunately my procrastination means that my calendar contribution still has not been completed so I can post it in all it's unfinished messiness.

And I suppose I can try to continue to improve the piece even after it's been on the calendar.   Constant revisions are a habit I've had to break but it would be amusing to indulge it for a change.

hehe, glad to hear it!

Remembrance alone is in the spirit of the season I think, but if you can make it revolve around a wintery setting that would be even better. You can enter something that doesn't mention the word Wintersday once, but you will definitely get bonus points for making the reader feel like they're reading a WIntersday story, be it the characters, setting or just atmosphere.

Sounds good! Ideally the workshop could help you improve your piece for the calendar and give you an entry for the workshop which is also eligible for the Best Progress Award. If you wish to further improve your piece in between the deadline for the calendar and the deadline for the workshop that's a great bonus! Either way I'm just glad to see you participate.

Oh yes, that artbook is quite the prize! I'll just be happy to see as many entries as possible bringing back memories of GW, the first days of GW2, or bridging the gap from GW to GW2. It's gonna be a fun and creative category I think.

You're such a go-getter, it's great! Hard at work with the calendar, but you still find room to join the workshop. I salute you!  



Don't forget guys, there's a screenshot competition too - and you can enter that as well as the regular workshop.
The Wintersday in-game event starts soonish, so finding a subject and setting should be easier then.

We just completed the first performance of our Wintersday Revue, and it was a smashing success.  As the holiday continues, we'll improve the lines, stage direction, and execution.  We will be performing at least once a week on Sunday on the Tarnished Coast server.
