Guild Wars 2 is quite high in the list. Higher than you might expect.

On my personal list I'd put Borderlands 2 as 1st, Guild Wars 2 as 2nd.

I pre-ordered TL2 ages ago and I have it waiting for me on Steam, but I've still yet to get around to it.

DANG!   Good Job Guild Wars 2 and gratz to ArenaNet!

Of course, that's where I would have put GW2 too but I wasn't expecting gaming journalists to do the same :)

I'm glad. At least Cowadudie didn't get on the list and it's nice to see less popular games like xenoblade and last story getting some attention

Awesome that a magazine like that put GW2 on first place. :)

Well deserved first place! Minus the bugs and some mechanics that they still need to work on :)

Interesting. Looking at how the game is now I'm a little surprised. I personally agree it's the best of 2012, but seeing all the complaints about it and how few players are online most of the time, I'm a little surprised. Perhaps the state of the game isn't as bad as this forum and my observations lead me to believe?

Yes, this forum is honestly just full of people who have nothing better to do than nitpick and cry at every detail they don't personally like. Don't worry. Most of the gaming world is very happy with the game, despite its rather small issues :D

I know GW2 isn't perfect, but it's definitely affected the industry in how future MMOs will be made and serviced. Nice to see that ArenaNet's hard work is paying off with great publicity.

I sure hope so. I find this game too good to end up badly :)

I always wonder how they generate these lists.
I'm mildly amused that Diablo III didn't make it and am suprised ME3 didn't make it.
Not really surprised about GW2 being so high up (although I wouldn't expect #1); it's a very shiny game for the first week or so of play.

you guys are too picky, i found the list to be very honest when you think that is about games from 2012. GW2 might still be going in a good direction even with all the entitled whine.

Here's a cool idea for a drinking game!  For every post about how surprising or how Gw2 shouldn't be number 1 because of the number of bugs and recent updates, take a shot.

Congrats Anet.

I'd die of alcohol poisoning.

For what it's worth, I'm surprised Minecraft and Borderlands 2 aren't up there, but their list seems pretty solid.

EDIT: Oh and Torchlight 2 being on instead of Diablo 3 makes me smile.

Nice that it got number one, but honestly, does anyone here actually get TIME magazine for Video Game reviews?
IMO This is like if EGM magazine rated the top 10 perfume fragrances for ladies.... Just a little too far off of what their target audience is supposed to like to be taken too seriously.

Now, if it wins IGN, Gamespot, or any other well-known video game critic's Game of the Year award, then we'd be talking :P

Honestly!? Number 1?! There's only one explanation for Guild Wars 2 being TIME magazines #1 game of 2012...

...one of the Arena Net developers is obviously sleeping with a columnist, an editor, or maybe even an editors assistant at TIME magazine...

Clearly it's a top 10 game, hell I'd even say top 5, but no way is it numero uno unless someone involved with writing the article at TIME magazine has their love life riding on it!

Ha, I was thinking the same thing.  Where the hell is Far Cry 3 on that list???

Easily the best single player game I've played in a while.

Well, it's my #1 game of the year anyway, and to be honest i do expect it to be top in quite a few of these top 10 lists too just because it is a game worthy of that kind of praise (whine all you want, but take a step back once in a while and just look at guild wars 2 for a moment, then look at something like halo 4, then look back again, perspective restored yet?). Despite all the whining on this forum, it's one of, if not THE best MMORPG ever made. Nothing else this year has really topped it's genre in such style.

Look at it this way: The zero punctuation review of Guild wars 2 was halfway positive, therefore it's obviously doing something damn special :P

If you want to check if your computer will run GW2, check here.

If you find out you can't and need to think about upgrading or building another, check here.

DayZ should've been on it. As for GW2, it's not as good as I expected it to be, Anet failed to bring their ideas to live fully, tho the improvements were in the right direction. No.1 spot is still warranted tho imo.

Examine that a little though.
He tends to review only single player games; it's easy to get deep into such a game and find its flaws within a few days of play.
He probably played GW2 for what, a week at most? It showed: the flaws of GW2 are long term (which is of concern, given GW2 tries to get players to play over longer periods of time) and don't really manifest (although the warning signs are there early) until you've been playing for a while.
So I wouldn't read anything into that.

This is actually the case for almost all reviews though. So yeah; spectacle is heavily biased in favour.

*shrug* 500 hours into GW2 i'm still having fun, therefore the only review that really matters to me - my own - is positive :D

If it is a #1 then it is only because they've managed to sell 2 million copies for a completely unknown franchise.
