Come together, right now, over me

Do you think there should be a movement to merge guilds so that the 10% who still play are playing together?
I can't understand the reason why I and others stay in a dying guild when there are other options out there. Something's holding me/us back. But given the state of the game population, it's sensible to merge all the dying guilds and make the game better for everyone involved.
Do you disagree? If you agree, what's holding you back?

As for dying guilds - my dungeon-running guild is getting more and more members every day. Maybe it's just your server/s?

I agree with the merge servers and not guilds though. I think server merges would make each server more populated and in turn would hopefully create bigger/active guilds.

As far as server merges ... meh, just move yourself! Merge yourself to another server a transfer is free and there are plenty of High/Full NA servers almost all times of the day. I barely ever see my server go to High when trying to move friends over.

I don't have any statistics, just what my 4 guilds look like in population. They have about 10% active and about 4% on at any given daytime.
I'm not suggesting big active guilds merge, I'm suggesting these small dying ones merge either into big ones or into their own to make a new big one.
I don't see how server merges would make guilds bigger, but I'd like that for PvE.
Transferring servers is a no-go because I'd need all of my guildmates to change as well, and all of the people I've met and learned to avoid are here. And it's not like this server has no guilds, the players here could merge.
Few players = redundant upgrades & guild boosters. It's not even worthwhile to use Dungeon Influence for 24 hours unless you have a LOT of people running dungeons. All of the people in small guilds are really missing out and spinning their wheels.

New content grabs people for a few days and they quit again. There are perma players and players who come for "highlights". So many small guilds out there with no one else on, that influence is going to waste.
I'd suggest my guild merge with others but I have no idea about how to make that happen. A guild matchmaking site is needed to find similar guilds on the same server to join with. The guild sites I've seen have ads that are from Sept and there's no way to tell if they are even still in existance.

- People don't want to lose their officer status
- Founders are very keen on their "unique snowflake" name
- Lack of transparency: you have no idea what the alternatives are
Add alliances, so people have more people to play with (hence the first M in MMO) but at the moment, ANet doesn't think it's necessary to make enhancing the social options a priority. A big mistake imo since a lot of people quit playing because their guild is getting empty.
I had a few alts in dying dutch guilds; each with like 50 members of which 2-6 online at an average evening. I've seen people quit GW2 1 by 1 because in their personal view, the game's getting empty and "people" quit playing
Guild Halls may also help to increase social interaction.

Or because of the fact that merging server can be quite hard with the whole WvW-system?
They would need to remove a minimum of 3 servers.
And that is really not needed. There are still not a single EU server on lower than medium at any time I have checked.

Hmm?
My server is a rather low tier server and we have loads of people at most time, both in WvW and PvE. And we have been down there since release.

An in-game list of active guilds would be AWESOME. I could look at the profile/website of the top 10 and decide which is the right time zone and attitude for us.

Really, are some people so dumb to not reallise that Lions Arch is now always in overflow because fractals were added to Lions Arch?
It was dumb of Anet to put fractals in the most popular town in the game making everyone endure the modal "you are in overflow" dialog on every visit.

nothing is holding me back as my guild is still doing fine. Also merging guilds is a terrible idea. My guild is a primarily Role-playing guild and the last thing we would want it to be merged with a hardcore sPvp or Dungoneering guild.

People realize this and that's there point. If the game was as dead as people are trying to paint it then overflows wouldn't be as they are.

Which proves... oh, that's right, my point. The game is hardly dying. I imagine a lot more people will start playing just after Christmas as well.
I love how a new MMO comes out, a fair few people leave, and then a lot of people who are still playing the game declare 'the game's dying! What shall we do?!' It's just how every MMO out there goes. If you want a dead game - go to Guild Wars 1.

I think a good number of people have left and that even if i'm wrong Anet in their own self interest need to entice as many people to play as possible. That is not to say i think the game is dying but i think it is hard to justify claims at either extreme ( those being: Everyone has left! this game is dead!!! and Hardly anyone left! Look this game is positively bustling!!!)

This is true
At the moment I'd say the game is in a positive medium, but you are right - there needs to be more content that pushes people OUT of LA and into the world

Guess people really are that dumb. A new feature causes a large proportion of the server population to congregate in one place. Observing an increase in the number of players in that place gives no meaningful indication of any change in the size of the popluation.
