Few differences here, 1. bread is perishable therefore you buy a new loaf every week and can benefit from the 20% off. 2. 20p off is nothing compared to £15. 3. comparing discount on bread and free upgrades with new items is not the same :P

i go buy a brand new bed and a new TV, 3 month later the store offers a free TV with the purchase of that same  bed. ....Better?

They are only offering something with the 60$ purchase of the game that you can get In-game for a mere 2000 gems... it's a way to sell more boxes, and i see nothing wrong with it.

Although I think that it's a bit of a crap move to sell DDE for the standard price rather than discount the standard edition, that isn't where my frustration lies. My issue here is the wizard hat. "OMG IT'S JUST A WIZARD HAT!". No, it's an item that I cannot gain but new players can. That, as a player, is frustrating. Would I even really use the wizard hat? No. Does it still bother me? Yes. It's sort of like missing an event in GW1 and therefore missing a hat that you can never get again. The difference is, you don't even get a shot at getting the item, while new players get it handed to them. I just don't get who the hell thought this was a good decision.

this is the witch's hat from the halloween event everybody got for free. I wonder if the Wizard's hat is the same item with just another name for it.

...and haven't you got tons of cosmetic items (not to forget full sets of armor) / pets / titles from the HoM for that?

(+ we already got some items for free: Witch's hat, Devil Horns, Celebration Hat)

I have, but that's for playing Guild Wars :P
I never got a witch's hat :/ I only got the celebration hat and devil horns. I guess I missed out. But the annoying thing is that the wizard's hat is an item offered only to new players for free. It's just annoying that we don't even get a chance to get the wizard's hat :/

At least it's a useless item.  In GW1, I always wanted the Chimeric Prism, but I think it was a EU-only special edition thing.

I doubt I'd use a wizard's hat if I got one.  The devil horns are likely to look better on every character I have than a wizard's hat would, and new players can't get those.

Regardless what everyone else is ranting about, being someone that almost always waits until games go on sale on at least 50% off during Steam Sales, I can't say something like this is unexpected. I of course bought GW2 pre-release as I believe the developers deserve to be able to make sales on a fully priced game.

However, for every other game I bide my time waiting until a sale or some kind of offer crops up & then jump on in. It ALWAYS happens, & I like to save money where I can, I'm not alone in this. Also aside from all you guys whining, Christmas is coming up, this is a good incentive for parents & gamers to buy GW2 as a present or for themselves which will bring in more players to the GW2 Community which makes the servers we play on busier & in personal opinion more enjoyable for some of the lower populated servers.

Anet gave us lemons? Just make lemonade! ;3

If you expected the price of the game to remain the same 3 months later, you are a fool.

I am not an anet fanboi, check my posts, 80%+ of the time I am ranting on them.  However this is a case where it is completely predictable that 3 months out the price on the commodity drops to lure in new customers.  I can never lay fault at a company for using this type of sales tactic, it's been around since....the barter system...

Even though I didn't buy the whatever edition, if I had I would not feel any regret if that was what I wanted.  I bought the plain version and I fully expect the price on it to eventually hit 39 USD.  I won't feel bad about that either.  I paid the premium to get the game at release.  I am also one of those who will wait 3 months, 6 months, even a year to buy a game I think is overpriced.  I don't always need it NAO!

Give me the Wizard Hat too and we'll call it even. You people can't complain if they give normal players a Wizard Hat. I'll never understand why someone gets mad when other people get something that they have. However I do understand being confused when someone gets something MORE than what they have (for the same price of course.) Free hat! Free hat! Free hat!

Stop putting things on sale! It's almost like you're selling something!

I paid more for the game because I wanted to support Anet. I do not really care if other people get the DDE items for free because that was not the reason why I spent 20€ more.
Same with you here, I got the Collector Edition to support them and get the Rytlock figurine.

This is just sad.
Call it entitlement but shafting pre-purchases by just giving this away is just stupid and a slap in the face.

Of course, companies should never, in anyway, whatsoever, ever have any kind of sales nor ever lower their prices for anything.

Gotta say that this annoys the hell out of me as well. Had I known it would just be given away I would not have bought it. Its one thing to discount it but quite another to just give it away for nothing.

Anet is sure botching things with GW2, I love the game but things like this, the stupid issues with the Karka event, the disconnects in fotm, the Arah issues etc...

GW 1 had issues as well but Anet handled them alot more professionally and consistantly than they have thus far in gw2.

We were rewarded for getting the game sooner by, um, having the game sooner. We have an extra four months of playtime on these people. Would you really rather have the Deluxe edition for free?

I suppose people here must be completely new to the gaming industry. Most (of not all) gaming companies do lower their prices now and then and quite often even include the whole standard game when they release and sell expansions.

I'm a collecter at heart, and I know there are a lot of people who are even bigger collecters than myself, and if there is no way to get the wizard hat on an account that's already live, that's just incredibly irresponsible.

I'm fine with the deluxe being free, hell, I'd be fine if they got a free 1000 gems. What I'm not okay with is the lack of effort clearly displayed by whoever decided this.

I've heard of preorder bonuses and prepurchase bonuses, but never exclusive bonuses for waiting 4 months to get a game.

I'm kinda curious as to whether people would rather have them have this deal, offering items that came with the old deluxe, that is also available at any time in the gem store or to have made some all new items that weren't available on the gemstore for a good month or so on the gemstore. I for one would rather them get the old items rather than something I cant get myself, but then again I'm biased I never got the deluxe edition.

Assuredly not. Wizards hat doth not have buckles. It could be very similar, but there will be at least small differences.
