My friend bought Dragon Age when it first released for $50.  Later I bought Dragon Age Ultimate Edition that included the expansion pack and all the DLC for $50.  My friend didn't complain or feel shafted.  My satallite TV provider is offering a $10-$15 discount for 1 year, plus premium channels and other services free for 3-6 months for new customers, but I do not get the same deal as a current customer, and I do not feel shafted.  My sister bought a $200 Samsung smartphone, later I was able to get the same phone for only $1, she doesn't feel shafted.  

The point is, things go on sale all the time, prices change all the time.  Rule of thumb, always expect what ever you bought it will go down in price some time in the future, and it will generally happen with in a matter of months, especially if a huge shopping seasons is near by.  If a big shopping season is near by, expect that what ever you are buying will more then likely be cheaper then.

Arenanet is literally doing nothing wrong with this sale, it is 100% ethical for them to do this.

All they are doing is using marketing-speak.  The only thing people could really complain about is how their $20 off sale doesn't include the basic version.  But it seems everyone who is complaining already owns the game, many of whom seem like they have since release.  Excuse me if my eyes don't water for you lot.

I remember why I refused to buy the Premium pack for BF3, because I already had the limited edition that came with the Karkand expansion free.

I was not going to pay again for something I got free just because its now bundled together with other goodies.
In fact, I never bought any subsequent expansions for BF3 anymore.
For the record, I really really want Armored Kill, even now, but I just can't bring myself to buy it.

The fact that the Premium pack is still pretty good value for money despite that, was not the point.
I was getting lesser value than those who did not get the limited edition.
It cheapens the whole experience.

Is there really no way to do such things without virtually stomping in supportive customers' face?

Is not the price reduction that bothers people, sales happen all the time, we know and we are ok with that. Is the fact that you can't get the hat at all as an old customer.

You and your friend ended up with teh same game and expansions. He paid more, you paid less, but in the end you both got the same content. If you would get an exclusive "ultimate edition" armor with your Ultimate Edition Dragon Age do you think your friend would be happy about it? Maybe he would like to get the same armor too for 5$ as a separate DLC but EA Games will say they wont sell it to him, just to new players. Is that fair?

yes....it is.

This communities sense of entitlement is pathetic.  Reminds me of a 3 year old pitching a major fit cause Mommy would not give you a 2nd cookie.  The community is quickly becoming one of this games worst features and that is a damn shame since it was one of GW1's best features (particularly early on).

And what's even more shocking is that not only are hats the PERFECT cash shop item (No increased stats!), we are also dealing with a completely empty cash shop. People are complaining constantly that they want to spend money, but there's nothing to spend it on.

If people.rage about this then maybe you need to take long hard look at yourselves. The hat is cosmetic, you may not have it, so what? I never got a mini varesh or kuunavang because I didn't buy the special GW editions, and did I lose out? Course not, because it's COSMETIC.

You had the option to buy them. ANet never told you, sorry you are not allowed to buy Collector's Edition of Faction or Nightfall, because you already have prophecies. Also the minies were tradeable. The hat is not tradeable.

I want to buy the wizard hat, I don't need to get it for free, but even if I want to buy it I can't. Why? Because I'm not a new kid.

Yes, but if you really really wanted it you could buy it off of another player. THAT is the difference. These are all pixels on a screen, you could say the whole game is cosmetic. I am a bit sore about the wizard's hat because I am ocd about hats...But if I really really want it, I will go buy it. *Secretly hoping A-net will give it to the ones that have already bought the DD and CED editions!*

Hope you guys get your wish. I for one won't lose sleep over it. It's a marketing deal, much like turbine offering points for their store for LOTRO for new accounts, and LOTRO is still going real strong after many years, meaning they probably don't need such marketing deals.

Lets all attack Arenanet for being a business and trying to give people who are on the fence incentive to buy... yeah hate them right? They are just in game items. it is not that big of a deal, but it certainly is cool to new players who will be joining server full of lvl 80s who are in lvl 20 of the fractals. Gives them something cool that others do not have.
