I haven't played guild wars 2 in a month or so. Just don't have that urge to go in and do stuff, like I have with League of legends for example. I'm hoping to get online for Wintersday, but then I recalled all of the previous events and lag fests and I'm wondering if it's worth it?

So what do you expect? Another Lag event or not?

Depends if they learned and don't host the one-time event schedule again.
For example with Halloween I had no lag what so ever, because there wasn't a a big one-time event then (except for the short video).

I don't know I didn't have any lag with the Halloween event, and this should be then same. As long as they have the stuff spread out and not bunched into only one or two areas should be okay.

I hope ANet learned from their mistakes and don't make another massive scale event in one specific place, or at least, not in Lion's arch.

I really hope not, most of my play time in GW is during events so I really really want them to be good.

50/50 so far one good event (Halloween, room for improvement but pretty good) and one terrible event (Lost Shores). Anet still seem to like to design content way beyond what the engine and servers can handle though so I do have my worries about Wintersday.

Hopefully no one time events. I don't mind difficult content, and missing content/rewards because I am not good enough to get them (Mad Kings Clock Tower) but missing content because it is only available once at a horrible time is pretty lousy design for an international game.

I would say no cash shop RNG but that is the feverd dream of a mad man and I have come to realise that cash shop RNG is how the best skins/items will be implemented  It's a cash grab and I hate it, much rather buy the item than buy a chance to get the item butAnet have chosen their direction so guess I have to accept it

I do, but just in first 1 hour or so. Since it lasts so long I donćt really care about the beginning lag as long as it's an event fullof contents. Can't wait to see what they got in store for the Gem Store

You certainly won't make money with your clairvoyancy any time soon if THAT'S all you got :D Of course it'll lag, for some unplayably so, for others not at all - but to kid oneself into thinking it won't lag for anyone?

Well yeah, no.

The last event (Karka) was horrible because they programmed many one time events and stuck them in single maps, which caused everyone and their mother to go suffocate the servers, if Wintersday is continuous (like the GW1 version, or even the Halloween event) then it'll have no probs

I just really hope that it's not a bit-by-bit event like the last two monthly events, since I'm going to be out of town from the 20th to the 2nd.  I'm sure it will be, though, so hopefully I'll have enough time to catch up on phase 2, 3, and 4 before the event ends...

I have suffered lag in all events so far, so I do worry about it.

However, Anet have by now seen the results of two events and are probably dealing with it now. So, while I doubt that they have had time to apply all the lessons learned (since an event like this has to have been in the works for a long time and there's not enough time to change the content's basic structure), I expect it to be at least better dealt with than the earlier events.

I hope they don't do another one-time event because I don't want to have to compete for a spot in my friends' overflow servers and have to constantly rejoin in hopes of finding them (because the "join them" system doesn't work with "full" overflow servers, but rejoining may put you in their server) and I don't want people jumping from overflow to overflow to farm events.

They really should number their overflow servers and let us pick like districting.

definitely but OH WAIT THERE IS MOAR!
1. One time event? Anet says, OH SURE, that will be sooooo unique to gw2.
Cons: massive lag since everyone gets on, oceanic players missed out yet again.
2. With lag brings massive DC.
Result: Flooding the fansite forums and official forums about 'anet get your gear right' 'oh god this dc' and 'massive lag spike unplayable'
3. You have seen it in the halloween event. You have seen it in the karka event. I know what to expect for wintersday.
result: massive lag, unresponsive action bars, delaying actionsbars, TP down, TP owned, TP missing, TP eaten by norns, massive complaints on facebook page forums and ingame
4. With lag brings "thats it anet i quit this game byebye cya ltr"

prepare for lag

I decided I wasn't doing the monthly for december when they did fractals again.  wintersday was always fun in GW1 but if they do more 1-time events like the karka stuff I'll stay away this time, really wasn't worth it imo.

maybe I'll do some of the side quests and smaller events, but I definitely won't do any 1 time events for wintersday.

I'm sure they would have learned something from the lost shores lag fest of fail. I hope they do something similar to what they did with Halloween with instanced mini games and a themed dungeon. It would be nice to have a non-one time quest/event chain that sends you all around the world, to see some actual players around would be a good change. I hope the Wintersday skins look nice like the Halloween ones.

Just 4 words: You have no idea.
Expecially on main one time only events, expect unplayable maps.

If they learned anything from the Lost Shores, they would split the event into multiple zones. For example, they could host a similar event in Wayfarer foothills, Snowden drifts, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, Lornar's pass and Frostgorge sound (hence wintersday). No upscaling would be needed since one of these zones is accessisble for all levels. If they were wise, they would have all the zones give the same rewards so that all level 80s wouldn't need to go to Frostgorge.

If they do it somewhat like this, I don't think that it will be a lagfest. If they stick to one map, we'll see similar lag as before.

As excited as I am about Wintersday, I sure as shit won't be buying any gem store things they add until I get my(accidentally deleted) broom back. They really need a costume maker in GW2 like they did in GW1, or hell, just let us order costumes over and over for free once we've bought them the first time.

The event is almost a month long.

I find it quite unlikely that we will have the hight amount of people concentrated in one area at one time as we did before.

Also keep in mind that it is not just Lion's Arch this time but rather all of the capitals and so on.

I completely lagged out on the fotm event.

No idea how they're going to do it. Otherwise I'm sure I'm not really missing something important.
I just hope it's not another "buy BL keys to open wintersday chests" thing.

Actually the only thing MINIMAL requirement means is that you can run the game more or less. And seeing as you know the amount of FPS in several areas I would say it is quite clear that you can run it ^^

In another thread they're complaining that there's too much information released about it.  Apparently, it's now considered a bad thing to announce special events.

It is beginning to become a little laggy.
Rubber wherever you go.
Check back in five and then your moving once again.
With error messages and frustrations aglow.

Eh you get the drift.

I'll be happy if i can actually attend the one time event.

They held the Lost Shores event at 4am on a Monday morning for me last time.  What a massive fail that was...
