Two comments:

First, we don't know that the Searing represents a greater knowledge of magic - Ascalon certainly had impressive stuff before the Searing (Stormcaller, the teleportation devices) and the Searing was pretty much brute force.

Second... *puts moderator hat on* I think this has gone well past the point of giving everyone an enforced break to calm down a bit. Or, at the very least, so I can keep a closer eye on it than I can at the moment.
