I posted this suggestion even before the release because I had a feeling GW2 would be this large game where walking around is fun but as the content grows the world will be larger and larger.
I do think at some point mounts should be considered in the game. Asuras have the scripts, Charr have the technology they can be implemented and it would be a good addon to this game.

Of course mounts should be end-game 1-time rewards (Soulbound or for lvl 80 only to avoid exploits for low lvls) with the option to buy cool looking ones from Gem Store.

Of course this is an addon that should be implemented once the bugs/exploits are fixed first and when everything settles down a bit. But we should have this option.

I played few other games where there were mounts and they were exellent addition to the game. Make them so mobs can't attack us, pve-only orriented, with a bigger cooldown so people can exploit orich hunting, for the max lvls only, 1  or 2 free cool looking from a storymode, the rest in gem store for those who want to show-off their rides.

I can see those Pact tanks/2-wheelers being added as a transportation system.

I'd prefer them to be more like the siege equipment in WvW, rather than meaningless speed boosts in PvE.  For example, you would purchase/earn a pact tank-in-a-box, and it is basically a drive-able environmental weapon that gives you other skills.

If it is simply something for showing off your ride, I'm already bored of the idea.

Yes this.

A charr riding a unicorn mount snorting firey rainbows of death while stomping an undead.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

I was thinking more of a exploration mounts rather then functional rides that's why I stated pve-only. Of course they could be implemented in WvW format in the way you pointed out.

That's my point.  I don't see any reason to half-implement mounts and just make them for exploration.  It's dull.  At least make them interesting by having them DO something.

I'll take a Sophia-III, kthanks.

I wouldn't mind mounts much in the game, but I would like restrictions on them. I wouldn't want them to be useable in settlements and cities as they tend to clutter things up like crazy. Also, since the game world doesn't seem to be designed with them in mind and they could effect stuff like jumping puzzles, they should give a speed bonus only on roads and maybe certain paths. And of course, max level only (or at least they require a lvl 80 character in your account).

What I would love to see would be a sort of a jousting minigame though - obviously made to suit the lore :D

Just out of curiosity, do mounts even exist in the world of GW? Maybe I am missing something, but I have seen beasts of burden, various vehicles but I have yet to see a mount.

They've already said they won't be doing mounts.  Of course, things can and do change - but for now I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Honestly, after years and years of WoW, I'm finding it to be a refreshing change - but of course, that's my highly-subjective opinion.

The stone summit dwarves used mounts(dolyaks, giants). Other than that there were some undead horsemen, but never any other living creatures than the stone summit.

Technically tho gw2 already has mounts in the form of golems, though this is very limited

there is no animal mounts that are in the game other than dolyaks, which if you've ever escorted one before are slower than running anyways.

I don't really see the need.  What they need to do is remove waypoint costs, or make them scale better so that I'm not paying over a silver to teleport to the closest waypoint at level 80.

Why do you need a mount to travel the 30-yards to the next waypoint?

Why do you need a mount when 99% of players just spam fractals and never leave LA you mean :P

I don't see any good reason to put mounts into the game in the first place, let alone pulling your resources away from other aspects of the game into creating mounts.

I have no need/want for ground mounts, I just want flying mounts so I can stop paying to move from zone to zone.

Why are people so addicted to mounts? The game is not even designed in a way that they are rational. The game would have to be fully persistent (no zone portals), much bigger and missing waypoints for mounts to make a shred of sense.

I mean i guess you could make mounts for looks only for people who want to sit around in towns all day riding somthing
but then you would be right back here on the forums complaining that your battle walrus does not grant you a game breaking 200% movement speed increase...

Is that really necessary?

Mounts are pointless with waypoints and with all professions having Swiftness.

I do not want mounts, I do not see the point of mounts and I do not wish Arenanet to sink time and resources into developing them. No thank you!

Flying mounds would be fun, but they should charge the same amount as a way point for landing.  No free rides in GW2 lets keep traval as is, Anet has many other things to do.
