My 4 friends and I who actively play this game are creating a Charr Warband that will travel around together doing hearts and dungeons and all those goodies. This is what we have selected for classes and was wondering what GW2G would suggest for weapons/traits and/or tactics they thought could help us through dungeons.

Warrior
Thief
Necromancer
Mesmer
(class undecided - suggestions?)

If you're all starting from scratch, then you've got 35 levels to decide on roles before you hit your first dungeon.  Best bet is to experiment, see what play style suits each person, and once you've got that sorted, tweak the builds to cover any gaps you think you have.  Once you're hitting the dungeons any real gaps will be exposed and can be fixed, but specific roles should develop fairly organically through play style.

As for the additional class, you're pretty safe with anything.  All classes have a lot of versatility in traits and utilities, so even if you had all one class in your group you can still be effective.

One thing I'd recommend though, plan out and assign your professions.  With 5 of you playing together you can have one of every profession. You should be able to gather enough mats so that you can all level your professions at the same time, and keep everyone outfitted in level appropriate gear and consumables.  The right armor weapons and food should make you much harder hitting.

If person number 5 has any elementalist leanings, that's a profession that shines as part of a group, but can be really painful when solo. For the purpose of comboes, it also provides every field that isn't already present in your group.

Otherwise, both ranger and engineer can also provide fields - neither can produce lightning, but you can certainly live without it. Ranger is probably better at this role, though - Flame Trap, Frost Trap, and Healing Spring are all fairly reliable fire, ice and water field generators, while the engineer options are a bit fiddlier to actually combo off. On the other hand, while you technically have light fields in what you already have, there's not a lot, and if you want to be able to use them on a regular basis a Guardian or Engineer with elixir gun and Kit Refinement will work wonders.

I'm aware that I've pretty much just said 'yeah, all of the professions you don't already have will work well' - but they do work for different reasons.

I think in overall group appeal, you're going to want to lean towards an Elementalist or a Guardian to fill that 5th spot, both help out tremendously as part of a group.

put a guardian on top of the list, sure you can do without him but life is a lot harder, there is no trinity but he is the tank\healer\buffer in any good party.
. then you have lots of combo finishers but not any of the best combo starters, elem or engineer. you can put

have fun and hope to see ya in game, i didntsaw any full "hairy" party yet :-D.

My suggestion would be to add a Guardian and let the warrior dps.

My suggestion :

Get a Guardian or an Elementalist. (Guardian will be more tanky and give a lot of boons and usefull skill like wall of reflection to help you party. Elementalist have high dps hand some thick to get trough some dungeon. Ele is a must in AC)

Warrior (if 5th is Ele : Go defense and Tactics with Regeneration on Banners, if 5th is Guardian go DPS)
Thief (Go Critical with a enough Vit to go at 14-15k hp at Level 80 and go more possible in stealth to revize in dangerous situation)
Necromancer (Be the bleeding machine of the group and use your Blind Plague to get through difficult dungeon part)
Mesmer (I just started mine so not sure what's the best but if you got a Warrior and Guardian in your group i would say go DPS in critical become Confusion is not that great in PvE, but its awesome in PVP)

Mesmers can put out a decent amount of other conditions as well if they go staff (very good for support). Greatsword clones can produce a lot of bleeding with Sharper Images, but how useful that is depends on how close to the cap you're getting with the rest of the party.

If you don't have a guardian, staff and sceptre/foces (or sword/focus in areas where the mesmer meleeing is viable) with Warden's Reflection might be worth considering - Staff is great for support, and Warden's Reflection'll turn Temporal Curtain into a shorter-duration Wall of Reflection.
