Hey there.

I played since (and before) early launch, enjoyed GW2 for a while when I was just exploring/testing classes.
The novelty died pretty quick.
Bad voice acting, bad storyline, combat system wasn't as epic as expected, missions were too easy, didn't really encourage teamplay other than in dungeons (and even then, it wasn't exactly pro-team)
On the otherhand, folks were nice, I loved exploring maps (until it got boring unless I brought along some mates), and I respect Anet and GW1 was my first (and possibly favourite) MMO.

So, yeah. Anyone wanna be kind enough to gimme an update. What's been going on, have Ranger swords been fixed, any huge bugs, how's the player base holding up etc?

Not sure I'm gonna come back, I'd like to, but, meh, I don't wanna do what I did last time and end up forcing myself to go on with friends.

Cheers in advance.

It's not like you need to resub or anything to pop back in, do you?

I don't ask my friends if I should go back to BF3 either.

Cool new "dungeon" called fractals of the mists, found in Lion's arch, that you might like. It's composed of 9 "fractals", you go through 3 random ones every run, and after a run the whole thing scales up. Basically an "unlimited" dungeon that gets harder and harder.

Honestly there's not much to consider though, nor is there a "come back", its free, just hop on and play when ever.

Combat system was still horrible when I left, doubt that has changed much.
I would wait until the next expansion and get feedback after they decide what kind of mmo they want to be, since apparently they still do not know.

Got ninety nine problems with Guild Wars 2, but none match the ones you said. Statistically speaking, that's rather rare.

Like Trei said, if you want to come back, just do it. Unless you asked for a refund that is.

Eh, that's another pro :P

I was actually patching when I posted this.

I guess I'll try to get some mates together and see if they wanna get back into it.

I wouldn't ask for a refund, I bought it and I played it. Though I know a few people that did.

Doesn't look like pet AI/swords have been fixed yet :(

Fractals sounds cool, though D:

What. The storyline was brilliant, the combat system was fine. IMO I also came back. But I feel I expected way too much, I played it now normally and love it. Also specially for dungeons most of them require at least a moderate amount of teamplay so IDK what your talking about there.

Also to add to the discussion about refunds. If you pre ordered it more than 6 months ago you can't obtain one. I tried though I'm not regretting the fact I tried late because I wouldn't refund it if I could now.

^What Ozielol said! I'm please with the Ranger buffs/changes. In fact, I'm pretty please with all of the class changes they made this week.

Anyway, jump back in and enjoy the Wintersday event. Play when you feel like it; it's not like you have to commit to paying a sub or anything.

Well, first of all, I feel like if you're looking for "story" and "missions" GW2 isn't for you. There's nothing new in that department either.

Since release they've added a bunch of small new dungeons called Fractals of the Mists where you get to repeat the same few dungeons with ever-increasing difficulty. Each time you complete a set of 3, the difficulty goes up. Personally, I liked it, and if you got a group of friends to play with, I'm almost certain it would be fun.

That's about it though. There's been 2 monthly events so far and the third one is in progress. All they do is add more minipets, goofy weapon skins and temporary holiday minigames. Oh and also a rich orichalcum vein.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll definitely jump back in at some point (another reason I love Anet is the idea of a one time purchase that came with this series), but I dunno. I had really high hopes for this game and it just wasn't as amazing as I expected it to be.

Heh, at least Rangers are finally getting somewhere. Last time I played they were pretty low  on the food chain (ahem)

How're f2 skills doing?

That still depends on the pet. Pets with a quick attack speed (like birds) and ranged F2s (devourers and spiders) are fine. Some people like the drakes' F2, but I haven't used it much. I haven't tested anything since the recent patch, though.

May i be honest? I don't know if you was reading a bit this forum but i think i can sum up what the actual game is:
the game when you left was with exotics as the best you can get, farming dungeons or crafting. Pick your skin you love, go for it. I'm not sure which period you left, but recently we got a pathetic patch giving away 60 tokens per path per dungeon, and a DR system, not allowing a fast farm but still is a way shorter easier life.
Token farm is back, boss drops tokens.
If you're smiling, you should know we have fractals too. Noone here told you what's inside: geargrind, such a surprise huh.
Shortly, what you get EXCLUSIVELY inside this new place is better than all you (eventually) worked on or planning to.
Soon devs promised other gear soon, weapons and armors. Oh, just to add, to join this place there is a special debuff called Agony, you need the mentioned ascended gear with infusion , going deeper the gear is infused + the infusion you want, from merch or crafted (+5 to a stat + 5 agony resistance).
If you have this face now   wondering if you didn't saw on million other clones this kind of mmo, i continue now with:
the incredible fractals are bugged, some just are struck (underground, cannon path) so you wasted a lot of time. Also, there is level racism, so not just i have to tell you good luck to find a lv1 group willing to carry you a bit further, but also, we have RNG about rings.
With a recent update for windersday, you can now have lv10 ring updates using ascended uberrare drops + ring to promote it to an infused version. On some ways, could make you feel it less grindy and RNG, until you find the rings and mats at first, which doesn't happen so often ;) Rings are a special reward , daily, so if was your bad day, amen, bad for you, others go further, not planning to waste time for you at all.

Then uhm, some little changes about bank management and items, loads of bugs, not even 1 patch not overbugged/ making the game unplayable, gemstore scams, what else? ^_^
Honestly, if you found this game pathetic at beginning, nothing of what you wrote leading you to leave  is so much better now, if in time i would ask a refund if i was you, or as you did yet, download the client after february. Devs promised a "reborn" Posted Image

Honestly i used a soft hand and skipped way more reasons to not log anymore/ ask a refund. I could add the cesspool of community, joining a pug. Jerks of the worst kind. An example? People kicking players at the last boss inviting guildies,
or the bottom, just to point which kind of junk game a new customer would join?
Players who kick party player at maw/end of 3rd fractal. You cannot invite others, you don't get their loot, there is no reason at all to do this, except if you're playing gw2. I swear, i never even barely heard something like this on an mmo, there is a thread filled of customers confirming this pathetic attitude spreading like a plague, now even about fractal jerks

if you have the urge to return, then come back and play awhile. If you find that it is boring after a while, you can log out. It is simple. Gw2 is not meant to be played hardcore, it is more towards casual gamers, since a hardcore pver can hit lv 80 with full exotics/some ascension in 1 month and have world completion. Then it gets boring later.
the ranger swords work fine for me, i like it. Way better than the greatsword if paired with a warhorn.

Why dont you just come back and give it a try?

On a side note, this game is becoming more and more WoW. The person above me explained really well

Quite a huge difference between my account life and char and his one, and he left after a while (guess he lost loads of updates i and others mentioned), he lost a lot thinking now things was better or more enjoyable, expecially about particular points on OP. None of them is better, i added what's new. Suggesting yes a refund, if disappointed of what he will find  or just wait the feb update where (based to dev posts) we will have a great uber patch changing lot of things. Accomplishing maybe his hopes.  Logging now he will find  just the junk i mentioned.

Try again and read before, attempting to tickle me :P

this must be a troll post. that's the only explanation i can think of...

The game is still very young, is this how fickle gamers have become? It's a full, rich world with much of the game in a very complete, bug-free state...

The only explanation i can think of is that you weren't very good at this type of combat, and it led to frustration...

I know right! For how young the game is it is doing amazing for an MMO.
Especially when you compare it to stuff like WoW after release. (Thos bugs could give nightmares)

But just out of curiosity OP, did you do much WvW or sPvP?
Something to do and acquire mates. Find a decent WvW guild and you will always have stuff to do.

I saw that behavior extremely often in WOW, sparingly so in COH, and in other MMOs (hello to you RIFT). This selfish behavior isn't new, its just new to this game.

Still has issues but they are fixing them. Slowly, but fixing them nevertheless. The recent update made the engineer better (regardless of what grenade focused people may say), mesmers also got fixes and nice boosts. The warrior is.still as easy and as powerful as ever.

sorry but I hear this in a lot of threads. Some say the engineer, mez. And with each profession they may catch a few bugs. That don't mean you cant play the character in enjoy it. Example. The phantasm berzerker broke for a long time. even other phantasm add delay. I just changed my play and I believe it actually made me a better player. or versatile. people can adapt to bugs. Should they be there. Of course not.

No doubt, be  selfish is the core of every mmo. Analyzing into details you discover the reason: steal their loot/gathering point, make his character better over others. Still idiot, but "understandable" expecially by some kids. Jerk kicking on gw2 where loot is not shared, expecially kick at maw when there is not reason to do it , is not selfish attitude. It's pure junk who don't deserve to even be able to use internet at all. This kind of junk is  spreading, what's worst, funnily right on this game where there is no reason to exists.
