so the patch notes have just been released.. Not huge changes but P/P has got a couple buffs.. the pistol mastery trait increasing dmg to 10% is certainly the stand out, as im sure pistol uses will now pick it up.

Other interesting change is the speed buff while in stealth.. 50%, thats huge!

personally happy with the changes even tho my s/d didnt get any love, and they didnt increase the attack speed of vital shot.

Thief
  • Whirling Axe: This skill can now be cancelled by other skills.
  • Fear (Stolen item— Skull): This skill now works like the warrior skill “Fear Me.” It will now actually hit its range, but also have a falloff on fear duration based on distance.
  • Ink Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.
  • Tow Line: This skill is now a projectile finisher.
  • Escape (Harpoon Gun): This skill now creates a poison field with art changes to reflect this.
  • Ink Shot: Projectile speed for this skill has been increased by 22%
  • Instinctual Response: Now triggers at 10% damage instead of 20%.
  • Ricochet: Increased bounce chance from 5% to 20%.
  • Fleet Shadow: Increased move speed from 33% to 50%.
  • Slowed Pulse: This can now trigger every 20 seconds instead of every 30.
  • Pistol Mastery: Increased damage from 5% to 10%.
  • Improvisation: Now also increased damage with environment weapons by 10%.
  • Piercing Shot: This skill is no longer able to fire at enemies behind the player.

I'm wondering if pistol matery's damage only works for direct damage, or does it work for condi as well?

I just tested it, the bleed dmg from No.1 does NOT seem to increase with the trait.

i tested Ricochet: Increased bounce chance from 5% to 20%.

and while the increase is nice, the chance to hit one or two targets is still small, condition damage also carries over. not worth spending my trait point on, imo.

Kinda annoying that most of the thief changes are for underwater skills... I've been using the +10pc dmg trait on a power build and yeah its pretty cool.. If u add that to +5 duel skill, +20 for under 50pc health,  +10 wen ini over 6 and one more of the +10s your getting quite a lot of multipliers going on..

Hmm. I've tested it in The Mists and it still looks like 33%. Here is what I did:

Using Shadowstep I measured the range of 1200 between two points. Then I run between these two points in the full duration of a Blinding Powder (3s stealth) using Signet Of Shadows (alleged 25% speed buff), Fleet Shadow (alleged 50% speed buff) or Expeditious Dodger (swiftness on evade - 33% speed buff). Here are the results:

with Expeditious Dodger (swiftness on evade): 1200 for 3 secs
with Fleet Shadow: 1200 for 3 secs
with Signet Of Shadows: 1200 for 3 secs
with all of them: 1200 for 3 secs
with none of them: 2/3 of the distance (approximately and measured visually)

So my conclusion is that Fleet Shadow still gives the same speed boost as swiftness which is 33%. Also (surprisingly) Signet Of Shadows gives the same speed boost as swiftness which is 33% while the tooltip says 25%. Maybe 3s of jogging were not enough to notice the 8% defference and on the long run it may prove slower than swiftness. This was tested in The Mists so for PvE it could be different, but unfortunately I dont have the means to test it :)

EDIT: We chased with a friend engi in the mists. I used 14 sec stealth from Shadow Refuge + Fleet Shadow and he used Speedy Kits (swiftness on kit swap) and we had exactly the same speed. When I used Signet Of Shadows I was a bit slower than him but the difference was almost negligible and didnt feel like 8% to me.

yea the changes fail....looks 100x better on paper than it really is. Tested it all out and its all trivial.

+10% dmg doesn't work with conditions. 20% bounce rate STILL feels like 5% and does the smallest bit of chip damage...like a fail version of dancing daggers. And Fleet shadow feels exactly the same. SoS is still the most reliable way of speed...yet now other classes have had their signet boosted to 25%...thieves no longer have the most mobility outside of weapon skills.

Disappointing patch, again.

i've only been PvP'ing with my thief for the past few days, so i can't claim to be an expert...so i ask you guys, what are some changes, if any, that thieves need? i'm just curious to know what our glaring weaknesses are that need to be fixed. or if we have any overly powerful things that need toning down.

i do think Basilisk Venom needs to be changed somehow, because it seems absolutely horrible as an "elite" skill, but other than that, i really don't know enough yet to say the changes we need.

I think ricochet should be brought up to 33-50%, then it might be cool, Speed boost is a bug, so it might be fix if we make a big enough fuss over it, like what other professions do.
I really don't expect % damage increases to effect condition damage, would be nice, but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.

If it works like engineer slick shoes, the 50% buff ignores combat status. I.E. slick shoes toolbelt says move 50% faster, it actually equals out-of-combat swiftness speed, but does so even if you are in combat.

I tested both combat + out of combat fleet shadow, same thing...very VERY little difference between swiftness.

i've tried p/p for pvp after the buffs, it still sux big time.  The increase in damage is not enough to justify how much you lose on going p/p: lack of aoe, restealthing, snares, mobility, and the main damage skill costing lots of initative and taking too long to channel.

Without all these abilities, you get easily killed, and countered as a thief.

and , basilisk venom is an amazing elite skill.  especially combined with rune of LYssa.  It synergizes well with the buffs, and glass cannon builds.

Improvisation: Now also increased damage with environment weapons by 10%.
I wish they'd change how this whole thing works instead of simply slapping a 10% damage bonus on it.
