Well there is no timer on these like there was for halloween.

So, at least for the thief it is a permanent weapon.

But yeah it would be fun to have as a weapon selection

If it was as a weapon selection for engineer and came with different bleeding and armor cracking skills, I would enjoy it. And for thieves and possibly mesmers.

atm it is a weapon skin... or a weapon used in the snowball arena... its not a weapon category and because it needs a skin its not a permanent weapon its just a shortbow with a slingshot skin.

This reminds me of what someone suggested about 2-handed axes. They may not exist as a stand alone weapon with their own weapon skills, but as a different skin of one weapon. I could imagine them also doing this with crossbows.

Oh you mean as a weapon with it's own skills? Would be interesting, could imagine it shooting some tiny smoke bombs etc. :D

think he wants a slingshot as a full new weapon with its own skills and whatnot instead of it just being a skin for a weapon.

I think it's fine as a skin

What exactly should be the difference between a skin over your current weapon and a unique weapon with the same name and skin, i really don't get. Are you serious?

Honestly, in application how different are those?
Really, the 'abilities' that the shortbow has, depending on who's using it - if Anet said "ok here's the slingshot, it has precisely the abilities of the shortbow - how much different would that be?   Granted, I dunno- when you apply the skin, does the weapon fire a bullet/rock or an arrow?

Human Tier 3 chest, pants, boots and gloves
Human Tier 2 Helm (waaaaay better than T3)
and duelist shoulders (fits kinda good and don't cost freaking 20g)

I turned my shortbow into a slingshot. Funny as hell. They should of made it sit in your back pocket not the middle of your back.

You don't seriously want to face an Elder Dragon with a slingshot? It's not really a weapon compared to Greatsword or Scepter...

It should at least show up in the word more often as a pick up kit.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

Ah, but it's not how big or scary your weapon is; it's how you use it. ;)

You forget that he won with one lucky shot, but we can't one-hit kill stuff in GW2 :P Then again most weapons should one-hit kill too if we look at them out-of-game... still, a slingshot? Oh come on... One handed axes, polearms and scythes sound like better additions. But I guess I can't argue with you guys :P

I would prefer the Bell Chimes to be a permanent weapon, or just a permanant version of them instead of a consumable.

A whole class based around the Bell Chimes would be cool now that I think of it.  Mesmers and Necromancers could also use it.  Some skill names off the top of my head Death Knell, This Bell Tolls for Thee, Ding-Dong Dead for the Necro.

There is a permanent version. Rare drop from giant wintersday gifts, or you can drop some mega coin on the TP for one.

you do realise that light skirmishing troops using slingshots were every bit as common in an ancient army a Archers.

The slings had a greater range than the bows of the time and damage was good.

As the bow evolved it overtook the sling as with more powerful bows the arrows fired could pierce armour.

No reason in the game a slingshot couldn't be every bit as effective as a shortbow.

If I did use a sling I would probably want a small shield and sword as a backup though.

Feel like Usopp!

Though no more than one skin. Seriously, there are so many other viable weapon types before slingshot.
