I don't really care about town clothes because of storage issues, the outfits being per character, and the fact that I spend a relatively small amount of my time in the cities.

And to be honest I have disliked all of the male town clothes so far, with the exception of the Sylvari cook and default.

What I really want is armor I can wear ALL the time! :) Though if they gave town clothes free storage, and they were granted to each of your characters (or cost less), I'd probably pick up a set or two.

I feel like Town clothes where done alot better in GW1 in being able to wear them in combat and "copying" them to other chars for use. I don't understand why they did away with that system besides them wanting to implement costume brawl with all costumes. I'd rather really have the old system then costume brawl as cool as it is, Really if there was a way to have both systems would be the best of both worlds. But i think clothes being restricted to one per purchase is a big hindrance.

It beggars belief that Anet removed preview of all armour (idiotic) yet managed to add these pretty much useless town clothes for Wintersday (that you can preview, surprise, surprise) and still haven't added preview to the TP after months and many requests.  Whats going on at Anet HQ?

Not really. I really like the Aviator Cap I purchased for my Ranger, but I rarely switch to town clothing.
I wish they'd make it like the costumes in GW1, so you could wear it over your armour while it still protects you.

I would if the town clothing will be automatically switched when entering a city, would truly be "town clothing", like cool pajamas when you finish the today's battles.

Lol!!

I do care for town clothes, in fact I do care about all kind of clothes as long - as they look good.
So, not things like hats that make you bald.

The GW method was far superior, not only because you unlocked them per account but first and foremost because you could wear it in battle. I know I played my ele (which class had by far the worst looking gear options, imo) a lot more after the attires were available.

I like them well enough, but I'd prefer to have them work like GW1.
I'd alternatively like them to be interchangeable/transmutable with normal armor.  (Costume brawl skills should come from the 'toys' only.)

My combat armor looks much cooler, nope I don't care about town clothes, at least not now.

No.

I would like more armor skins, though.

This thread should really be a poll.

I do care about it, I did buy the Halloween ones. I was really disappointed with the wintersday one thought so didn't buy it. I do wish that instead of being town clothes you could wear them over your armor. There's a few hats I wish I could wear over my armor.

No.  They don't look good, I'm not spending cash on them, it's tedious to switch to them.

I bought the Witch Costume on a whim... But won't be buying any more. For me, they are utterly useless.

If they were armor skins, I'd buy them all.

Just curious. 10 Gold seems a lot for something you can only wear when no combat is near.

Not with the current poor implementation. I bought most every outfit in gw1 due to the way they were implemented there. I won't touch them in gw2 due to the implementation.
  • They cost more then in gw1
  • There is no storage for them
  • There is no NPC to reclaim them whenever (thus you can accidentally lose one permanently via deletion. That's a real cash loss).
  • Can't wear on more then one character (with npc in gw1 I could claim an outfit for any of my characters at any time).
  • They can't be worn over armor (they should have a checkbox by each part allowing that part, if checked to overwrite the current armor part in that slot's look).
Thus not worth it. When arenanet stops being stupid with their implementation of town cloths then I'll start buying them.

I don't know about any of you, but my pirate costume says "account bound" even when it's equipped to my character. And just for that, I'm going to log in now and move the pieces to another character and see if they work.

EDIT: Oh look, my pirate captain's chestpiece from my human thief is working just fine on my sylvari mesmer.

Not to mention that the costume vendor in GW1 was introduced MAYBE 2 or 3 years into the game. Until then, anything you had was character-customized and if you lost it, it was gone.

And yet Anet learned from that by introducing the costume vendor and yet they failed to bring that  lesson over to GW2.

On Account Bound:

Yes your pirate costume can be worn by any of your characters but you can't wear it on more then one character at the same time, nor can you store it without taking up precious bank space. The costume npc in gw1 made costumes there far superior then their lackluster implementation in gw2.

Town clothes are great for roleplayers - I know I've used my own from time to time.
Still I agree that there's not enough incentive to use them and there's certainly not enough variety.

They're ok.  I switch to them every once in a while just for the heck of it.  It's nice to see my character in something other than their armor (armor that I love btw).

They really need a better storage system though, and more variety.  Some actual use for them would be nice too.  In their current implementation they aren't worth their price in gems (not much is tbh).

I've bought the Mad king and wintersday sets so far. Mad king set is awesome on my Charr, I love it for the giant head, the flaming tail, and the awesomely bad jokes.

My female Asura looks absolutely amazing in the wintersday outfit. I also bought the earmuffs and use them instead of the wintersday set hat. I am a 39 year old straight male and I squee "OMG she's so cute" every time I see her in that getup. Even worse I let her use the plush gryphon pet for total saccharine overload.

Let me get home in a couple of days from Xmas visiting and I'll post screenies.

All that said, I would definitely appreciate a wardrobe for town clothes. I'm loathe to destroy any of the items and they are starting to eat significant bank space.

Best town clothes for Asura is Aviator Cap + Pirate Outfit.

If town clothing were similiar to GW1 costumes and could be overlapped as armor then I would have purchased and collected them all. As it currently is, it's not even worth taking a look at. Saw new wintersday town clothing in gem store, took a look at it for less than a second and diverted my attention to the next thing.

What do I do in town? sometimes I afk, not gonna care what other people see me wearing, although I'd prefer people to notice my mixed armor set. Or I'm waiting for a dungeon grouping.

If I want to mess around in town, I would use my endless princess doll tonics as those are more fun.

Although I would love to hear an Arenanet response regarding town clothes if this is what they expected. To me they are simply losing out on an important income source.

This really... the npc are wearing some really cool looking clothing that I wish my characters could use especially the casters ... but since it doesn't overlap and virtually switches away if you fall etc. it seems like a waste of time to a certain extend :/
Not worth the price and slots they occupy at the moment.
The GW 1 implementation was much better(even if I prefer some of the current designs).

Some of the town clothes should have been wearable everywhere, they could have made so much money from them. Like the phantom's hood. If we could have used that outside of towns I would have bought it without a doubt.

I agree with all of this however I would like to see an armour 'wardrobe' type feature come to the game that was account based.  Once you acquire an armour piece you unlock it and can wear it as and when you wanted.  This would give me a reason to chase and unlock dungeon armours.  Currently I have my exotic armour set and see no reason to buy any other.
Infact I purchased the Primeval armour day one in game.  It's still sat on my mule character as I don't want to use it.  Wasted (Yes I know it can be transmuted).
Since ANet want storage to be an issue, so you buy more of it, they are limiting their income for town armour and a reason to acquire alternate armour sets.  I would like to see the same for runes/sigils.  Once you unlock them they can be swapped and changed.  This shouldn't have too much of an effect on the TP as people will begin collecting runes/sigils even if they don't need them right away.  Maybe like GW1 you can buy armour/sigil/rune unlocks from the gem store.

There's just so many changes that could be made to this game to make it better. To say that they are using the gem store as a method of income is surprising when you look at what they are selling on there.  I mean... we still can't purchase name changes? This should have been an idea in the development stages not months after release!  Paid race changes would be nice too, I understand personal story sacrifices would need to be made, I'm cool with that.

I'd care more if they were obtainable from karma vendors or something and not only the Gemshop.
So far you can only get a hat or two from vendors?

Was glad enough I could finally swap my top with the GW2 Shirt.
Or crafting? I figured they'd be incorporated into crafting somewhat. That was a little disappointing. Love the idea though. My Charr rocks a gangsta look with the pre release cap.

Yes. When the halloween event was active, I had recently invested in Gem conversion. And lucky me, the prices soared. So since I had enough spare gems, I went to the gem store and bought the special halloween costume. You know? The one with the Pumpkin head on fire and the black sorcerer robes? Yeah.
I spend a majority of my time in cities. Bartering, crafting, mystic forge... It's always nice to look a little better while you're doing it.

But yeah, - Automatically changing into town clothes when you enter a town - would be an okay update.
