when dueling is allowed  players will stop going into spvp or tpvp, which prove how boring conquest mode really is which led the blame on the pvp design team.

Dueling should definitely be implemented, for me dueling is by far the best way to learn your own class and the classes against you. I just gives you a bit of experience in how to handle a certain class when the fight happens in tournament. There isnt really any proper reason not to implement them, except that its not high priority. But then again how hard can coding something like this possibly be...

I cant imagine it being that difficult compared to the crazy shit they do for PvE every month... jus sayin...

The problem is that people will complain about balance. Thief would be the only viable option in this game mode, and people would cry even more than they do right now about it being OP.

The game simply isn't balanced around 1v1.

they brought it into GW1 with arenas, which nobody wanted to use because the 1v1'ers really just wanted to spam cities with dueling. I assume they will bring an Arena into GW2 soon, though, and nobody will use it still.

I would really like to see this feature.
And not only in the mists , but inside the whole game. I like the idea of having 1v1 with a friend while we are PvEing for hours.

While I don't care for it, since PvP in this game is team-oriented, I don't see how it could hurt anything, and it would be good for practicing for sPvP. While 1v1 isn't the game's focus, it's very useful for a teacher-student relationship, where you're trying to show somebody how to deal with another class, or something like that - or maybe you just want to kill time and be entertained a little. For me, it's not anywhere near a top priority, but I don't see a reason not to have it.

If the dueling stays in the Mists, then sure. I don't need any more lag messing up with jumping puzzles and general exploring on the PvE side (I'm looking at you Lion's Arch).

I think that they dont want people to start comparing classes based on who would win in a duel.

Guild Wars 1 and it's guild hall scrimmage duels was perfect. Nobody QQ'ed about balance, nobody got duel requests; everybody won. The implementation GW2 goes for could and probably should be similar to GW1 because it worked.

This.

The actual arenas arent 1v1 PvP, but TvT so they dont really want us to judge a class on how good its at dueling... there is some TPvP groups which are pretty bad on 1v1 situations, but they play really good as a Team because their builds got synergy and since the actual game mode is about "conquer", doesnt change too much is you are amazing dueling player....you will still need another 4 players by your side playing as Team to win in this game.

Adding dueling isn't all about competition. I'd like to duel for fun, when you got time to kill, during certain moments like... when waiting for a large event such as the Claw of Jormag. You get to show things to some people or get bragging rights during large idle conversations. It has a social aspect, may it be friendly or hostile.

Part of teamwork is learning how to play well when you're separated from your team or are trying to accomplish an objective on your own for the benefit of your team.

That being said, implementing dueling as a way to stop people from using it to stroke their e-peens or to stop them from complaining about balance? Not gonna work. Even if they didn't implement dueling, people will still complain about balance and will still stroke their e-peens. I'm all for implementing dueling.

I agree with the OP. Dueling is and has always been the best way to practice your PvP skills. In sPvP, you don't have enough time to focus on learning how to erform against a certain class. I woud like to duel players and then talk to them to know what I did worng.

They really do need to implement dueling, if only so that the "Play Now" button goes back to it's original function rather than "Disrupt a Duel now".  Its like an 80% chance of sticking me into a dueling game that I have to manually choose a server to sPvP on.  Dropping match and clicking it again doesn't work either it puts me back into the same game.

I have to find servers with more than 8 people now too, since the 5--6 player ones have duelers on them.

Only childish idiots and scrubs want dueling implemented.

Leave the trashy ideas from other MMOs out of this game, there's already too many included as it is.

^ Disagree. sPvP and tPvP had gear limitations that makes impossible to fully test WvW builds, and "duels" in WvW mostly envolves a player fully geared, traited and commited to hunt and kill lone/small groups of players vs players which most of times doesn't have intention to duel at all -sometimes even camped while stay at vista points or so-.

A properly arena map in the mist just for dueling won't harm the game, and would be useful and fun. The game doesn't have a way to duel in PvE -which is ok-, but also doesn't have a way to duel in WvW. Nobody cares if is due class 1 vs 1 umbalances, if the gap between classes is too large one can simple chose to not fight some duels, and have fun with others in which skill stills matters.

Custom servers will essentially bring organized dueling into the game as long as the cost of renting a server is not exorbitant.

If there is a cost to get a server players will just fill "empty" servers like they do now to duel.

Yea, duels would be decent, staked or not. But most people can't play when they don't have a pal ready to save their sorry asses. Should be a separate duel arena / feature for pve gear as well.

To be honest though, dueling shouldn't be offically supported as that would sorta require offical balancing for 1v1, which would bring a lot of issues.

Maybe allow a guild to purchase an arena type thing. It would be a sandbox-like instance where guilds can test builds in differend situations, either in spvp or pve mode. Guild members could also invite strangers to the arena.

Dueling builds the PvP community, and helps people who are having trouble with particular classes or styles. Some of the best times I've had in MMOs have been sitting in a circle, watching duels and making friends. Some of you people take it way too seriously.
This exactly.  You meet a lot of people by dueling, its a very social thing and it lets you learn your abilities and learn the other classes as well.  You can practice memorizing skill animations etc.   People who think dueling isn't needed, I really question your experiences in pvp.  I can say that I've spend hours dueling people and watching people duel and its always been really fun.  You'd be surprised how fast time flys by when you got a bunch of cool people talking and dueling and just BS'in.
