  • I am currently looking for more volunteers for the spotlight.
  • If you are interested in being in the spotlight (it's open to ALL members, not just moderators), feel free to pm me, I'll get you in a spotlight down the line.

Posted Image

What is Know your Gurus, you may ask?

It's simple, twice a week, a different person will be in the spotlight. When that person is in the spotlight, you can ask them

ANYTHING YOU WANT, even non-gaming questions!*

Spoiler

After that person's turn, their KYG thread will be locked and a new one will be started, with a different person. That means that if you don't get to ask your question in the 3-4 days the member is in the spotlight, you'll have to....... well, find some other way to ask them.

What's the point of this segment, you may wonder? To put it simply, to get to know each other better. Feel free to ask crazy or unusual questions. Heck, ask complete nonsense questions (Why did the brick build a cheeseburger?) if you want, just to see their response.

Please note that just because you ask a question, it doesn't mean that the person in the spotlight has to answer it, but they DO need to reply to it, so expect something, even if it's just a "I will not answer that". Despite this restriction,

you can ask as many questions as you want, but try to keep them in only one post.

Keep in mind that others have questions to ask too, so don't go too overboard on the number. Keeping it short of a dozen is just common politeness.

Also important, you may not get into dicussions with other members than the spotlight member. This segment is only to get whoever is in the spotlight to be more well know. If you're wanting to ask someone else something, you'll either have to wait for their own spotlight, or ask some other way.

Upcoming members spotlights:

What did you think of the Hunger Games movie compared to the book?

Would you approve of a rated R version of the movie tailored to older teens/adults? (One that doesn't hide the original violent nature of the book, I think it would have been more powerful)

What was the first video game that you got hooked on? (if not hooked, one that you kept getting drawn back to)

What was your favorite thing about that game?

Is it safe?

Do you play GW2? if yes, Class/Race/Level? and what  do you like doing most in the game?

If you had to leave your home in a panic state, world war three type of panic, what is the one thing that you must have that you will take with you when you run for your life out of the house?

Whats is your favourite drink/food?

Have you ever been to the beach?

Oh my goodness, YES! Everyone should read the book and watch the movie, in that order.
In the first book, Katniss goes into the 74th Annual Hunger Games.
No, unfortunately I am not a very strong person. However, I can give awesome five-stars.

Because Georgia's giraffes are very conservative, and do not believe in earning money through activities relating to objects such as the one you mentioned.

Ugh. That's basically it. As an adaptation, it was super awesome and really better than I had hoped. But as a fan, I couldn't stand some of the things that Gary Ross left out and changed. I still get chills every time I watch it, though, and it's an amazing movie.

I would actually like that, I think. Violence is a key part to the message of the series, and it's essentially the framework for it. Ross left out a lot of violence and hid it with shakycam, which I hated so very much. The violence between the teenagers shows just how awful and oppressive Panem is, and it really didn't show up enough on screen, which then diluted what Collins was originally trying to say in the book. The lack of violence watered the movie down so much that it gave too much room for the romance.

My first video game... whoooo. The Lion King for Sega Genesis. I used to play it all the time with my sister before she went off to college, and I was a total LK nerd - I even had a bunch of plushies from it. My favorite thing about it was probably playing it with my sister, and watching the adorable graphics.

HelloOOoOo!

*looks over shoulder* I think so... I hope so!
Of course I play! I have ten characters - because I am a hoarder at heart - but my main is a level 80 Norn ranger. I also have a 13 elementalist, 10 necro, 11 mesmer and one of everything else (except for a second guardian and warrior for aesthetics). I love doing PvE the most, just exploring and seeing what else there is in the world. Some of the dynamic events are just so awesome, too!

Probably my dog, although I'm not sure. I don't really have many material possessions that I'd actually need in that way, although emotionally I would need my dog. Utility wise, I would bring my bow.

My favorite food would have to be either this suuuper awesome chili my sister and I make before football games, or baklava. Seriously, it's nutty, honey-y goodness, who can't love it!?

I have been to all sorts of beaches around here, including Lake Michigan (I've been on that lake, too), and beaches on both sides of Florida. This summer I'll be on some California beach for about a week and I can't wait!

How badly was your world shattered when you first joined us? Did it take a few days? A week? Have you still not realized what you got yourself into by hanging out with the mod crew?

Did you perhaps ever read the short story "The Lottery?"

Do you think that question was referencing what Lemming just asked?
Favorite race to play as in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim? (Argonian all the way here)
What region do you want The Elder Scrolls VI to take place in? Wouldn't Hammerfell be awesome?
Fiber Optic light Christmas Trees. Awesome or not?

Well, I would say about a week in my world exploded in a manner very similar to mesmer dome things that I can't remember the name of. No, I still haven't fully realized!

Haven't read it, although I may be willing to!

Yes.
I don't play Skyrim, so I have no idea what those two questions are about!
I haaaate fake Christmas trees! Although that one looks cool. My aunt has one like that, but small and the lights are only white

(cribbed from Klosterman)

For reasons that cannot be explained, cats can suddenly read at a twelfth-grade level. They can’t talk and they can’t write, but they can read silently and understand the text. Many cats love this new skill, because they now have something to do all day while they lay around the house; however, a few cats become depressed, because reading forces them to realize the limitations of their existence (not to mention the utter frustration of being unable to express themselves).

This being the case, do you think the average cat would enjoy Garfield, or would cats find this cartoon to be an insulting caricature?

Go read The Lottery. Hunger games seems to have been largely influenced by the story along with "The Running Man."

Combine the two stories and POW, suddenly Hunger Games.

How does one know that they haven't realized the full extent of something without knowing that full extent and therefor having realized it? Are you a pre cog? Wise beyond your years? Are you a cylon?

Wow. I just read it and loved it. It's definitely very Hunger Games-y. Supposedly Collins had the idea when she saw Survivor on TV and a little news snippet about the war, although something tells me she got a lot of inspiration from this, too. The Running Man will have to be for another day when I've got more time to read, although it's Stephen King so it's gotta be good.

I am trained in the art of critical thinking, metacognition and self analysis!!! no, I'm not a cylon.

As someone destined to be a cat lady, I feel as though cats would be mortally insulted by the inaccurate portrayal of their race in the form of Garfield. The cartoon, while amusing at best, portrays the stereotypical "fat cat," one that lays around all day and does nothing but insult its canine brother's intelligence. While some felines may find the cartoon amusing, I feel as though the cat "psyche," if you will, would generally be opposed to it, as cats have a certain superior aura to them. Generally speaking, cats are akin to literature's portrayal of successful, rich, or even royal families - such people who would very much dislike any fun being made of them.
