Seems the latest "best practice" regarding the large presents is to pop them,  snatch the actual presents that spawn and run, leaving the mobs behind.

It's really sad to see this happening. Going through zones and finding the mobs milling around. Or worse, a set of "leftover" mobs surrounding the large present that has respawned, requiring two sets of killing.

Granted, the princess dolls can be annoying hard to kill without an ability to remove the confusion condition.

The other mobs are not that difficult to take down solo.

Sadly, the players that leave these mobs behind have forfeited an opportunity to get more presents because the mobs that spawn also provide a chance at more dropping more gifts / ugly sweaters / socks .

Please folks, don't leave your mess behind for other players to clean up.

Santa would not approve.

They shouldn't have made those dolls so freaking hard then. In a low level zone they are crazy to kill

I always try to clear the mobs as well, but half the time someone is watching for you to pop the present to go snatch the rest in there while you have full aggro of the mob, making it not worth it overall.

I've gotten enough of them just doing the wintersday dungeon to get the monthly anyways, so I just avoid them anymore.

I don't think the effort to take down these monster worth the "chance" of getting more present. We can get more present from normal monster too if i'm not mistaken.

Killing those toy monster take too long and the present disappear before you're done and you will most likely not even get one from killing them because drop rate is too low so unless they are skritt, I open the box, loot and run away.

Etiquette? What? You must be new to mmos. No one care. Same goes for the events/hearts and their back stories, we want rewards and money and nothing else.

I kill all the monsters I unleash on the world but yeah it's kind of sad seeing people just grab and run.  Thing is me and two other randoms killed the whole bunch earlier and I got 5 pressies that time, they said they got a good few too.

When you pop a big prezies they sometimes drop more prezies and spawn mobs.  If prezies drop and I've killed the mobs you get prezies for no work.  I think that is wrong, and encourages lazyness and whining.

It's a bit of a dick move to grab-and-run, but it's Wintersday, let's not be so hateful and bitter at this time of year.
If it helps, just consider it proof that you're a better human being than them or something.

Why waste your time killing them when you could get to the next present in that same time? People only want rewards, nothing more. Instant gratification is very important in any video game and especially MMORPGs.

In the past, I've tried fighting the mobs and ended up dying (laugh, you know you want to), then decided not to bother trying to fight them again.

If you open the present while the mobs are present, more won't spawn, even if there was only one left, so fighting two sets shouldn't be an issue.  Thus, the best practice would be to leave one monster alive at each spawn location.

Don't you think that's pretty selfish though, expecting other people to fight 2 groups of mobs that you've just said you believe are too difficult to even fight 1 lot?

But I guess that's what's wrong with people, only interested it what'll suit their own needs....

Who said we had to kill the mobs? When you open a present you usually get something nice. So take the 'nice' and leave the 'nasty'.

While the dolls (specifically) CAN be soloed, they are extremely difficult.  Trust me, I've messed with them on all 8 classes, with gear ranging from green to exotic.  On most of my 80's (in full exotics), I can handle them (with the occasional downed state); on most of my others I have less success.  All other mobs i can handle solo.  Since there is no way of knowing what you'll face until you unwrap, what would be a less selfish approach?

If we're just talking about the dolls then; well I've only fought them on 2 classes, one exotic geared 80 and one erm fine or masterwork geared 30 something, and could handle them ok, few downed states on level 30. But if they're difficult to solo for most of the classes and/or most players, then I can accept leaving them around more than the others.

However the only truly non-selfish method is just to kill them. If you can't handle it, then get a friend/guildie/random person etc to duo them. For me it's the same attitude to running past a champion mob guarding a skill point that someone else is fighting, taking the point then running off.

Well that would be part of my idea of selfish. Take the nice bits only and leave someone else to deal with your rubbish/nasty bits as well as their own. Do  you also chuck all your rubbish, packaging and waste etc in the doorway to shops just because you want the nice bits but cba dealing with the nasty/waste/crap bits?

Maybe I'm getting old or something, but growing up it'd be called courtesy and manners. Maybe it's like another posted said; that it's the internet mentality, and that it's only for me that it's the same?

Blame arenanet for creating it this way, not people trying to find way to get around annoyance.
If it was actually fun or rewarding to kill them, everyone would kill them. Now they are just annoying and completely pointless, so people avoid them.

That's the biggest problem with this game. The fun is always locked behind annoyance.

I've never seen the mobs last until the next present popped - in my experience they despawn a minute or so before the next present appears. And most of them are off the 'paths' that people would follow. So while i'm normally a stickler for polite behavior, I have to wonder if this is really an issue...

Pssst: you are supposed to put a wink after comments like that so it's obvious the statement is tongue-in-cheek. ;)  (I realize the old school concept of consideration in gaming has been lost with the advent of hordes of new MMO players, post-2004.)

Glad you have not had the experience of having to deal with leftover mobs. I have killed two sets of dolls solo (yes, I've been in a down state and come back, they're a little tricky but doable), as well as skritt and plush griffons that surround the next present. Haven't had the problem with the toy soldiers. Either there's a timer bug or I  just have had a little more bad luck than some.

Had a quick conversation with someone yesterday that ran up and popped the present as I was about to, snatched the spawned presents and ran off. He said "I enjoy being passive aggressive."  That's a response I've heard in this game before. I guess that's the latest rationalization these days for "entitled" behavior?

Bottom Line:

* I would actually like to have had ANet solve this problem by only allowing those that participate in the fight be able to pick up the presents that spawn.

* And I'd like them to hang around on the ground a little longer to allow folks to get back to them from a waypoint, if they insist that the dolls do that many stacks of confusion. (Input from guildmate.) I'd prefer they tone the dolls down, however, given the other mobs I also see left behind, that won't solve the problem.

* And in the meantime, some of this could be addressed by old fashioned courtesy.

Move along, GW2 PvE isn't about being selfish. I'm little disappointed that ArenaNet designed it so players can snatch and run.

You get more presents and event drops with those kills, so if they leave them behind they're leaving you more drops. The only group that is marginally difficult are the dolls if you don't pay attention to confusion and can't remove it.

I fight 'em and kill 'em off on the off chance that I'll get a couple more prezzies in the process.  It usually pays off with 1 or two more, and a couple of times I've gotten 4 additional prezzies from the baddies (when I've been solo).  The dolls can be tough, but using a clone-spamming mesmer, they don't pose a problem.

And +1 for a little common courtesy!

Honestly. You should be killing them if you want the presents so badly most likely those presents have ugly stuff in them and most of these mobs drop ugly stuff every time

So are you complaining that people are leaving behind stuff for you to kill to get MORE loot? That seems to be 1 point you're making with the quote. If that's the case then you should be happy. If not then I am confused what you're complaining about are you not capable of running by them grabbing your presents and running off? Then again it seems like people will find just about anything to complain about no matter how foolish it is these days.

It bothers me more that they blow up every time. Surely in the spirit of Wintersday a non booby trapped gift would have been nice?

Sigh, well I have trouble with them on my new character. If you're still low leveled and you pop one of those prezzies to get a mob of toys on you (who can get the hit on you because you're flopping about the floor from the shock >.> ) it's night night for your character.

Seriously, lv3 toys cut through starting characters.

That said, I don't snatch and run. At worst they remain cause I went down, but normally I just kill them.
