I'm very disappointed that in the latest four months that issue was not fixed. Right now it is impossible to use the most characters from Cyrillic, Greek or Japanese ingame chat, despite the numerous complains. Why do they take people's money and don't provide such a basic service? That looks like insult.

People are playing MMOs to socialize, and when you have to break your eyes trying to comprehend whatever ad-hoc transliteration your friends are using or your brain trying to type it, after having paid $60 like everyone else is a big deal. It is 2013, not 1993, and people expect a good internationalization of their software.

Thing is, for different language sets you need support of the game-client, it isn't something that's added without a hassle in a day or so.

If you complain enough I'm sure Anet will put language sets in the gem store...(course, it'll only display correctly for those that have also purchased the same language pack).

Not at all. The client is based on some existing library like freetype and there is a standard encoding, a UTF-8. The fact that the client supports some Western characters and Korean, but not Greek and Japanese cannot have a logic explanation.

ArenaNet is US, NCSoft is Korean, GW has a big following in Europe (especially Germany). There's your logical explanation

Best course would be to contact them directly, like this a pointed already posted.

Whatever you say mate, adding libraries to your program and running it on different devices and keeping it so that it shows up good on all isn't say, easy.
Just for the record, most people would be seeing "□□□□□□□□□□" instead of the right characters

Ye lol. until the client natively supports asian languages noone except you see the text assuming that trick works

Just so you know , there are a lot of asians ingame and everyone made his complain about it, it's you ignoring the reality around you. We are used to contact support for serious questions like this one, not a whine on a forum where dev team proved to not give a damn of the community

At least for japanese it's possible to type it phonetically , but ye, other languages are not so easy to fix waiting an upgrade of the cleint i honestly doubt incoming so soon.

Adding of such things takes in alot of things, fonts are usually copyright protected against being used in game.

It takes a bit of paperwork other than simply add them in the game.also programming and interaction with windows etc. It is not as simple to just add this in the game.

Looking for help, Ok I bought the game four days ago and haven't been able to play at all because of some stupid pass word glitch, I can't even sign into the site to complain about it I've filed a ticket and nothing happened at all. All I am asking is for someone to to sign into the forums and give them my refence number and tell this story its the only time they fix problems, any help would be appreciated.

The fact is the GW2 chat system is abysmal.
It's not just language character support, the whole thing sucks.

Come on, even the bottom MMO like Age of Conan has a Unicode chat, so there are no any technical problems. It's just Russians, Bulgarians and Greeks being treated like second-class citizens, despite the same $60/whatever EUR they has gained from them.

definitely, Anet is out to get you. they hate you and all you stand for.

to be serious, it's an oversight on Anet's part. i doubt it's easy to fix, especially without breaking most of what they have.

The boxed version anything. It's not signed on with any Asia distributors, and you can't use an Asian language to buy the game digitally on their site either.

There will be a separate Asian launch at some point (looks like q3 this year), they did show at the last G-star for a reason too.
