Everytime first dolyak dies team just falls apart and everyone leaves for another chance to get the achi. Not fun really. They didn't really think this over.

Ye , deffo brainless zergs reduce the achievement to a roulette. I was lucky, i got smart guys, i was playing smartly too positioning ballistas and snowman where needed, then after a few, poof, ach done. Clearly when the zerg group is a fail, no reason at all to waste your time anymore. You will grow up a bit your block list meeting funny peeps pretending to call you a noob or something else. Good luck.

I was lucky too, did it first try. I only ran around like a headless chicken to make and upgrade fortifications, catapults and buy Skritt mercenaries and suddely it was done ... :)

It was a strange experience.

Yep, it's more a tactical fight, placing support on strategic points more than hit toys with your weapon, what is mostly done wrong, on this istance. Personal score helps to confuse the real purpose aiming to the achs.

I got lucky just a minute ago. We build walls at choke points and camped spawns with hammers. One guy was kiting golem with rifle while we build catapults and ballistas. Starting from wave 5 base defended itself :D

Seems to be an extremely easy achievement. I mean, the only thing that can go wrong is the big golem destroying your base defenses. And it is actually quiet easy to keep him away. Other than that, you just have to run and collect snow/scraps.

There was a post by Regina? on the official forums saying they will change the achievement to one Doylak.

Don't bother reading GW2 forums.  Too moderated.
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.

Hooray, more pandering to the weak-minded. It's too easy to get this achievement as it is, with the respawning town props, meaning you can build whatever you want whenever you want without very much thought to strategy, and if something gets destroyed, who cares? You can just make it again next round.

Way too easy.

I found this very easy to do. Its not that hard to do. Keep the hay for when the dolyaks need more health. Toxx is bit of a pain, but with enough catapults and defenses we got him down in under a minute.

The issue is the shitty implementation of the hotjoining.  I haven't gotten a fresh instance, nor has antone bothered to stick around to start a second one.  It's always been either coming in after a dolyak (or 3) were dead or starting the event down a player or two.

They already said they can't fix the implementation of the activity (whch some people call BS because paid tourneys can make premade teams), so they're changing the achievement.  Personally I wish to get a group and go in and accomplish it with a perfct 10, but the hotjoin system puts a wrench in that.

Do you remember how many months it took them to get paid tournies working? I'm sure they could fix it, but not before Wintersday (and most of their Christmas breaks) were over.

Just saying that some people called BS on it.  I'm mildly skeptical.  I half believe it because the game's still a buggy mess.  At least Wintersday's been relatively bug free.

I sincerely hope that the change to the achievment is solely due to the poorly implemented hotjoin, because the achievment itself isn't that hard once people stop trying to directly attack things.  I've done it twice.  Some advice for anybody trying to keep all 5 alive:

Snowmen and catapults.
Snowmen and catapults.
Walls are a waste of time.
Snowmen and catapults.
Ballistae are a waste of time.
Did I mention snowmen and catapults?

I've joined it about a dozen times now and have yet to come across a game where there were still 5 dolyaks alive.

I'm guessing it's because of people leaving as soon as a dolyak dies, creating room in games for more hotjoining players. These 'fail' games live on and on sucking players into them who just leave again, wasting everyone's time.

I'm at 37 waves now, all afk-ed in games with some dolyaks already dead.

Terrible game design.

The Skritt mercenaries were fairly resilient (personally I think worth the three Scraps),but their AI is horrible (REALLY?) and they let themselves get kited and don't come back to the center.

I guess I got lucky.  I only had to do it twice to get the achievement.  Both joins were at the beginning of the engagement.  And the first time was just epic fail because I had no idea what was going on.  Couldn't figure out how to build anything, because I was using the pop gun, which can't destroy the landscape...unless I was doing it wrong.

Second time was a good group.  We dropped down a bunch of defenses early, and spent the rest of the game upgrading, reinforcing, and replacing those defenses, and clearing out those toys that got in the middle--which may or may not have been necessary.

Too bad they're nerfing the achievement.  But I can't fault the solution for what was perhaps a bad implementation of the instance.

It has been fairly bug free.  I would put that on the fact that most of the content is instanced.  It doesn't need a server restart to unstick things, as instances generally restart themselves all the time.  The only thing not instanced are the giant presents out in the world......which I DID actually find bugged once, when Plains of Ashford boxes were popping level 31 mobs. Took a couple of deaths before I realized it. >.<

Well to be honest, holiday events should be easy.

Anyway, a lot of this could be alleviated if they let people form their own groups to play it. But it is what it is and I'm not fussed by it. It's fun little event for a few times, not really a big deal.

Agreed.  These are limited time events.  If they're too difficult, people with less time to play can't enjoy the content, because they can't dedicate the time to get good at it.

Agreed x2.  It's odd that they made that hot join, given it's a 5-man semi-scripted instance.  But like you said: it is what it is.  And I enjoyed it.

Least the OP finally got it. :)

It's tower defense. And you have to let the tower do the work. Once you remember that, its a cake walk.

And even more so since now you only have to keep 1 dolyak alive. Trolololololol Anet.

Andddd the crying crowd as won :(, achievement nerfed to the ground, i bet if everyones cryes a litle more the achiev will be changed again to "just survive the dam map"

seriously, this one WAS easy, the problems where only there on the first day because no1 knew what to do, now EVERYONE does that crap blinded, theres really nothing to it, but i guess Anet as to keep the loud minority satisfied.

They can't change it to that since that is exactly what it is now.

go find a more difficult game then. go with the silent majority you seem to think exists that didn't ask for the easier achievement.

Just more people complaining Anet is giving them free stuff in the events. Oh well. I beat it while it was 'hard' lol.

And i disagree here and say walls are useful. You only need 2x5=10 to cover all the dolyaks from getting zerged. 10 snow is really easy to get. Then you can spend the rest on catapults and snowmen, and pretty much afk till the champ golem comes. Anytime you break something it has a chance for a item pickup, and the terrain regenerates during the round.

Whatever point it is moot. The bad kiddies cried till they got their wish.
