Toypocalypse Hotjoin? Wtf...

You have to cry as you try defending against 10 toy mobs alone while your teammates are reading the instructions, or just shooting things like idiots instead of building walls and catapults/ballistas/snowmen
I'm so frustrated with idiot pugs...what kind of drugs were anet on when they decided "Let's make this hotjoin!"?

Maybe they were testing grounds to implement this in future updates, rather than testing it internally first? Weren't people asking for some form of LFG tool that made the group automatically? Would be a lovely change, as I am terribly tired of hearing "sorry full" when I approach people in chat.
You can always go with the guild. Just a thought.

Some people can't do it so blame their party, lag, the system, the event, their cat distracting them, a family member interrupting them, bad reg, a bug, a bad skill set, being underpowered, being unable to carry, and finally the alignment of the starts, pretty standard really.

i certainly read the other comments..its just that you are simply overreacting. Its easily doable if you stay there for a whole round and then start from scratch. and honestly..this achievement is pretty much one of the easiest ones.
sometimes focussing on something and trying to find a way helps more than creating qq-posts on the forum. and it IS a qq-post. i can understand it...but what i am saying is..chose another solution and its gonna work..

After a few more tries throughout this first day, my groups significantly improved. Give people some time to get the hang of it; there's a lot of time to get those achievements.
While I agree that building is good, I don't think everyone should be doing it the whole time. There should be a couple dedicated to thinning out the mobs while the defenses are still sparse. The best time to build is when Toxx comes out. You can have one or two people distracting him far away from the center and everyone else can go building-crazy.
On another note: don't forget to grab the big prezzie that drops every time Toxx goes down! I usually received 2-3 giant gifts each time

Our team never spoke but we did our work pretty well. We made the "toypocalypse canceled" on 1st try without our dolyaks ever reaching below 50% hp and only 5-7 deaths in total i think.
We had 1 guy mostly running around for upgrades, i was mostly on kill duty with a rifle and the 3 others were juggling between searching for upgrades and killing duty.
With toxx we kinda got lucky with aggroing him before he reached the center (he only made it to dolyaks on last wave) and in terms of buildings we had lots of walls and catapults aimed at their spawn point (2 shots from fully evolved catapults took pretty good care of a lot of waves).
I hope next year instead of this slow paced defense they just make quick recharge skills and 1 kill shots (with more mobs obviously) but keeps us constantly on the move with a bit of delay between spawn so we can catch our breath.
A true apocalypse should feel more like the fast paced "defend the castle" map style of warcraft 3 instead of a "tower defense" style.

This would be awesome fun with party and guildies but instead...stupid hot join with pugs that don't even build or know how to get resources....and when you tell them what to do they dont listen....
Why did they think hot join would be fun with this? Just a terrible choice on there part. Took away any fun that could of been had. We were so hoping to do this as a group and they dissapoint again.
Another fail event.
I literally got the achievements for each mini event, and have not gone back since to any of them except jumping puzzle.
Halloween was so much better. Wintersday has just been lacking on top of the gambling crap and account bound restrictions...
DONT FORGET TO BUY YOUR TOYS IN THE GEM STORE!!11!!

The suddenly it was over and all the Dolyaks were still alive.
P.S. what kind of weird word is "hotjoin" :s

Or maybe it's a game and you shouldn't take it so seriously. Your armor isn't damaged when you die. You can always start it again and hope for a better group. I came in right at the end of a round, learned what I needed to know during the last two waves, and got top score the next round. It's not all that bad, even with pugs. Try logging off and realizing there's more to life than getting a perfect score in a video game.
I built up the least amount of catapults, but I was on wall and hay duty, and kept plinking toys with the rifle. It's nice to have a "kill shot" powered attack with no cooldown. A couple scares when Toxx spawned right on top of the dolyaks and started attacking...a couple well-placed rifle butts and scrambles for hay and the achievement was ours.

First time i got in i to tough " this is crazy !! i will never do this
After a few minutes out and reading the forums i decided to go in again, and what do you know, easyest thingh to be done and i had fun, FULL HP dolyaks all the rounds except the first one , our map looked like a black market weapons selling ground theres was siege weapons every inch in there XD, that together with the skirt merc we would just run around doing pretty much nothing except droping siege from time to time.
Theres plenty of tips and 100% fail proof strategys on the oficial forums, if you guys stop the crying and actualy read those you would all be done with this with no trouble at all.
Important points for the win:
-Contract the skirt mercs that are on the west side of the map for 3 scrap each , they are unkilable death dealing machines
-run around nonstop grabing and droping siege around the center of the map
-when boss spawns intercept the boss with 2-3 players AWAY from the center of the map and stay there, the rest of the team can go around laying even more siege.
-after the boss dies hp items for the dolyaks spawn around the center use them !
-Block the ramps with ice walls (altough i didnt need this but its a good tip)
If you get alteast 3 or 4 good players then your pretty most done, the rest can derp around if they want it dosent matter ( i had 1 derp on my team that would just turn the camera around and stay still for 5 mins at a time lol )
More indepth version of the tips: http://dulfy.net/201...ntersday-guide/
BTW, for all the cryers, Regina over at the Anet forums said the Achiev will be nerfed to the ground and will only require 1 dolyak to get it before the end of the event, as this wasnt easy enough already

I got my achievement on my second try (first try was meh), and we finish the waves, with all Yaks with full HP, we built walls all over the place haha was funny. And of course, heavy catapults and turrets, enemies were dying in seconds, I was lucky that the players knew what to do too.

I do agree that it shouldn't be a random event where you can't party up in it. I would rather it have been yet another 5 man instance that I could run with my guild than the random team part of it that is currently available.
