  • I am currently looking for more volunteers for the spotlight.
  • If you are interested in being in the spotlight (it's open to ALL members, not just moderators), feel free to pm me, I'll get you in a spotlight down the line.

Posted Image

(Yes, that means me)

What is Know your Gurus, you may ask?

It's simple, twice a week, a different person will be in the spotlight. When that person is in the spotlight, you can ask them

ANYTHING YOU WANT, even non-gaming questions!*

Spoiler

After that person's turn, their KYG thread will be locked and a new one will be started, with a different person. That means that if you don't get to ask your question in the 3-4 days the member is in the spotlight, you'll have to....... well, find some other way to ask them.

What's the point of this segment, you may wonder? To put it simply, to get to know each other better. Feel free to ask crazy or unusual questions. Heck, ask complete nonsense questions (Why did the brick build a cheeseburger?) if you want, just to see their response.

Please note that just because you ask a question, it doesn't mean that the person in the spotlight has to answer it, but they DO need to reply to it, so expect something, even if it's just a "I will not answer that". Despite this restriction,

you can ask as many questions as you want, but try to keep them in only one post.

Keep in mind that others have questions to ask too, so don't go too overboard on the number. Keeping it short of a dozen is just common politeness.

Also important, you may not get into dicussions with other members than the spotlight member. This segment is only to get whoever is in the spotlight to be more well know. If you're wanting to ask someone else something, you'll either have to wait for their own spotlight, or ask some other way.

Upcoming members spotlights:

(For ease of referencing, Members are black, Mods are blue, S-Mods are green, and Admins are red.)

(Dec 28th or 29th) BuddhaKeks

(Dec 31st or Jan 1st) Al Shamari

(Jan 7th or Jan 8th) Feathermoore

(Jan 11th or Jan 12th) Archaes

(Jan 14th or Jan 15th) Soki

(Jan 18th or Jan 19th) HawkofStorms

You seem to be a nice person, would you confirm or deny this assumption?
How does it feel, being the last spotlight before the best one?

Also again thanks for doing this, the threads so far have been great! :D

Yes, the big jolly bookah himself. Left me a couple of Sylvari for more experiments on, and a Norn for..... other..... purposes.

I'm too lazy to make my own. I only use the animated ones on http://cooltext.com/

1 Do you really want to know?
2 I have no clue. I just react as myself would in real life, if you think I'm nice, then I am, if you think I'm a "blunt b****" (as I've been called before), then probably not. :P
3 I just wanted my own to be on Christmas. After that was sheer coincidence you PM'd me to be in the spotlight :P But really, are you Stephen Colbert? Ego seems intact.....

No problem, I like them too. I just wish there was some way to advertise them around the site, they aren't as popular as I was hoping they'd be.

Amberian Dawn is one of my favorite bands. They have some hit-or-miss songs though. If you want to hear good ones by them, try He Sleeps in a Grove, Lionheart, Shallow Waters, or Incubus. (None are family friendly)

I also like Jonathan Coulton, Billy Joel, Doobie Brothers, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, most other well known metal and Billy Joel/Jonathan Coulton style bands. I also really like some really weird songs like "I'm made of wax, Larry, what are you made of?" by ....forgot the band name, "Africa" by Quartered, and some others that I really do not like the bands otherwise.

As for genres I like... I would say metal, but I hate Metallica, and I love Iron Maiden, so I can't say I truly like metal. Is "Weird ass songs" a genre? Amberian Dawn is truly the only band I've ever heard that I like most of their songs, so whatever they are.

I guess that would mean a strange Opera/Metal hybrid is my favorite genre.

I know absolutely nothing about you. What are some nontrivial facts people should know about you?

You meet your soul mate. However, there is a catch: Every three years, someone will break both of your soul mate's collarbones with a Crescent wrench, and there is only one way you can stop this from happening: You must swallow a pill that will make every song you hear--for the rest of your life--sound as if it's being performed by the band Alice in Chains. When you hear Creedence Clearwater Revival on the radio, it will sound (to your ears) like it's being played by Alice in Chains. If you see Radiohead live, every one of their tunes will sound like it's being covered by Alice in Chains. When you hear a commercial jingle on TV, it will sound like Alice in Chains; if you sing to yourself in the shower, your voice will sound like deceased Alice vocalist Layne Staley performing a capella (but it will only sound this way to you). Would you swallow the pill?

Last one's a trick question, I have no soul mate. I highly doubt I'll ever find a boyfriend, considering my physical appearance (not a weight issue problem), coupled with all my medical problems.
Some non trivia facts about me I've revealed at various times are that I am a runt in real life. I am about 3 foot 10 inches, and dead set look like a ~7 year old in the face (including the lack of breasts), I am not a "little person", they look like adults in the face and are shorter than me. That's why my physical appearance repels most guys my age. To top it off, I have Cystic Fibrosis, which means my average life expectancy is around 35 years old. I am already 25. See a problem there?

But really, if I ever did meet a soulmate, I'd take that pill. I don't know hardly any song by that band, but a few I've heard weren't that bad. If you would have said Amy Winehouse instead of Alice in Chains, I just don't think I could pick....

Then again, if that was the case, I could get all "bitchy girlfriend", and make my soulmate do it, or threaten to leave him...... No, I wouldn't do that, when girls do that, it disgusts me too.

7 what is your favourite food?
8 something you can eat everyday and do not get tired of?

1 Mostly Warrior. DPS based, fully exotic weapon/armors/accesories/everydamnthing, along with the best sigils/runes available. No Asceneded though, I actually don't want any. No known ones would help my build.

2 The females are short, lack breasts, etc. See my reply to Lemming why that appeals to me. (Hint, it's like playing as myself)

3 *you're in that case.
The only time I didn't play as Asura was during the BWE 1/2, where I played as Charr. Now that Asura are available, they are the only race I'll ever play as. Don't believe me? I stuck with Ratonga in Everquest 2 for 5 years before I switched to GW2. Once I find a race I like, I stick to it wholeheartedly.

4 Iron Marches or Mount Maelstrom

5 Cell phone. Call people in other cities/states/countries. See if anyone else is around at all.

6 Kattar, mostly just because he seems more of a survival type than me or the other 4 (no offense guys, I would suck at survival too)

7 "Food" or food? "Food" would be Sour Bright Crawlers, only the Trolli brand. Food would be Filet Mignon seasoned only with lots of Grains of Paradise, my favorite spice.

8 Walmart "Great Value" brand Colby-Jack cheese. I've had some every night for the past 8 years, plan to until I die.

The Mentalist by a long shot is my favorite for serious fictional shows, Pawn Stars/Hardcore Pawn/American Restoration/American Pickers for "ambient noise" when I'm on the computer, and Futurama/South Park/Brickleberry/Tosh.0/Family Guy/Cleveland Show/American Dad for comedy.

The Atermis Fowl series of books I've always liked. Basically a much better Harry Potty that Disney screwed the author out of a movie deal in favor of Pirates of the Caribbean.

It's a name I made up about 14 years ago, and have used on the internet for every website I go to. Pronounced Zoo-For. Doesn't mean anything at all, and isn't even close to any word in any language I could find.

Not every Xuphor you see is me though, I've had people that hate me make a fake account under that name on various porn sites on the like, trying to give me a bad name. Chances are though, if it's a gaming related website that has Xuphor as a member, it's me.

Probably nothing different. It doesn't sound like anything I would remotely be able to stop, and I sure don't have the kind of billions of dollars it would take to get on a rescue outer space rocket, so I might as well live out my last 24 hours doing what I do.

The super power to give myself any super power at any time I wished.

I said it before somewhere on these forums a while back, but I'm not a native English speaker/reader/etc. I'm actually Russian originally. Considering I actually took the time to learn proper English grammar before coming to America, I seem to speak mush better grammar than a lot of other members I see around here. I still make slip ups quite a bit though, which is why nearly every post I make is edited at some point, it's because I caught myself doing a grammar mistake.

That random fact is also the reason I tend to have very low tolerance for people that say "englis ins't my first langugee, sory if is hard two reed". If I can learn English as well as I have, I don't see why they can't too. They're for the most part just too lazy to actually try to learn a new language properly, in my opinion.

Considering I learned English when I was 13 through 16, yes. I have a pretty thick Russian accent still. Likely will all my life.

It's 50/50 what people think of it when they hear me though. 50 think like you (or some other variation of "awesome"), and 50 think of the generic cliched terrorist voice from old movies like Die Hard and the like.

There's a reason I came to America and learned English, and while I still can read/speak Russian, I choose not too unless for some reason it's absolutely needed. I'd really rather not go over the details on that circumstance.

Still, I can tell you that you very likely used Google Translate (Not babelfish, yahoo, etc. That is Google Translate), as they always tend to mess up grammar in the same way every time when translating to Russian. Believe me, I've seen that kind of translation mistake from tons of people on the itnernet that claim to speak Russian, when in reality they just use Google Translate.

As for answering that, you didn't know before hand because I only mentioned it on these forums one other time, and I can't find it myself anymore. :P

I'm originally living around the Sanktpeterburg area, a outlying town.

Time for the next KYG though, thread is made. If anyone wants to know more about me, feel free to PM me. If it's not too personal, I'll gladly talk to you.
