My question: Any reason why the exact build would not work in WvW or even s/tPvP?

Love this build in WvW, very effective against invisible thief. Just spam shatter
I choose the trait "recharge shatter skills when HP reach below 50%" so that I can jump into zerg, shatter and get out with 2 distortions.

Variations of this build are used for tournaments (see my profile for this build) and many people run the greatsword variation you have in hot-joins. I have recently found the Staff to be much better tool for either and it allows me to take 'Rending Shatter' instead of Greatsword Training. Removing boons with each shatter on top of Arcane Thievery essentially counters each meta build I face (except invis sins that go invis after they invis). The mesmer has the best boon removal in game, why not play along with it?
'Phantasmal Fury' is an excellent skill but after some testing I feel Blade Training is a bit better. I use Illusionary Leap through combo fields very often and shaving a couple of seconds off of its recharge is handy. +50 precision is nice with my setup because I use runes of the Eagle (6).
Also, try toggling 'Compounding Power' with 'Confusing Cry'. Your opponents will get about 360-400 damage each time they hit you for several seconds. You also pick up retaliation with the staff which will continue to prime the boon (OP honestly). You will definately get more overall damage from the retaliation.
Have fun with your build, I hope this helps!
