I enjoy Analyzing.
I am not PvP kind of player (too much) but slight competitive playing is amusing. When I go WvW Eternal Battlegrounds Jumping Puzzle (which I prefer as home) I like to predict what other players are going to do. Doing my homework. What are they able to do with their different Traits, Utilitys, Elite, Weaponsets etc etc.
Shortly, I'm getting kicks out of predicting ppl's toughts and see that they did what I tought after the battle. So knowing what all Traits, Skills etc does and how to counter them is something I really enjoy. I don't know is there many of same kind of wierdos as I am but this is how I enjoy the game. If you are one of those who likes to "Master" all above with your specific class - that sir is something what takes some time and keeps you in playing. That was the answer to the Header of your thread.
About the questions after the header........ I am sorry but I have not played Thief THAT much to tell you how to be "good" as one. What I have noted is the Stealth duration and bugs along with it. When Stealth seems to fade off for you it fades off later to foes..... I can be mistaken but that's how it seems to be. Play some time with all the possible weaponsets to see which actually is to your liking. Go to the Heart of the Mists and do your Trait tree what you think is about your playstyle. When happy with it go back to the actual PvE side and use them in there a bit more "challenging play" like Fractals. This is what I do with all my classes and I find it amusing and makes me at least think I'm closer to mastering and understanding my class.
