Well there was someone shouting: Selling Ectos, lodestones, Mystic coins.
I had bought from him the day before 50 ectos for 13Gold, everything went fine.

Yesterday night i sent him 50 Gold for a stack of ectos, he didnt sent the ectos or the gold, he on right now like nothing happened.. hes from  Maguuma server i dont think i can put his name here, im trying to contact his guild. I think is SoT - Servants of Tyria not 100% sure but would like to ask the leader if that member is in his guild and show him the screenshots, and explain to him about his member. I found the guild recruitment in guildwars2guilds.com but those names are offline... (maybe they already quit like everyone else..)

So please use the TP.. i didnt had 65gold honestly , thats why i risk, now im poor and sad.
If anyone knows anyone from that guild in Maguuma please pm me, thanks.

This is why I am totally for a trading option like in gw1. Or CoD (Cash on delivery mail). And IF I ever would buy from a person through mail, I'd ask them to send one, I pay one ... that way, you don't lose much money. The person I'd buy from, would be a guildie or irl friend too probably.

That being said: sorry that this happened to you.

Not very constructive feedback bud, even if you were thinking it (like many may have been)

The whole thread has zero constructivity in itself, the OP was merely stating a wide-known thing (namely, to use the Trading Post) while also letting the public know his current case he got (which is not the first story appearing on the forums), all the while trying to get sympathy (which by the some of the comments, you will see that he won't get based on the fact that scams already happened, Anet already said they don't have anything to do with trades outside the TP and by common sense of not trusting random strangers on the internet) in order to have a higher chance to regain his money.

All in all, the moral of the story: don't be greedy, otherwise that 15% cut you try to avoid may go up to a 100% cut. (and noone will give a damn about it other than yourself)

Yes, yes. I think we all pretty well would generally come to that consensus. That being sad, my meager attempt to try to get someone to "be nice" is and always will be an exercise in futility. And, to your point and most everyone else's - circumvent the safety measures and you'll generally get burned.

Common sense dictates that sending gold to someone you don't know beforehand for something you don't have any assurances to get is a very bad idea.

You were basically asking to be scammed.

I remember getting into arguments in like the first week/2 weeks of the game about how you shouldn't trade with people. I always got ''I'll probably get scammed once in 100 tries'' People don't like paying the taxes for TP that much is so stupid.

You should of gotten scammed, and 100% deserve it. I don't feel sorry for you at all.

Edit:

The fact that you were buying a stack of ecto for 20g less than what you can get it on the TP, shows ALOT about the both of you.

If they weren't, there wouldn't be a secure trading post to do your trading with at all and you'd have got what you paid for. Don't let greed cloud your judgement.

I'm sorry to.say this, especially to.a well meaning person like you, but you had it coming. I don't know if you're new to online gaming, but aholes are around and you should never "trust" anyone you don't know.

Hope you learned your lesson :)

Try not to think of the criticism here as "evil" or "mean". You really can't expect any different reactions to this when you broke one of the most basic tenets of online gaming.

It's a hard introduction, but there it is.

If you've played games frequently, odds are good you've learned this lesson very early on. Most of us have. Mine was from Diablo. This was over a decade ago.

However it seems you mention you're a rather infrequent gamer. You got yours now. Hopefully this makes you smarter for it.

Know that this lesson applies to games, internet society, and real life. As the world becomes more interconnected via the internet, we also become more faceless, more anonymous, and by extension, more shameless. I hope you didn't try to rescue any Nigerian Princes lately.

It may be hard to see it this way, but you're better off that this happened to you now, in a casual game, on a comparatively small transaction, and not on something bigger.

Good luck in the future.

I hate to say it, but on online games there are very little people you can trust.. :/
And it's sad people get a negative world view because of it..

Good. I hope you've learned your lesson. Yet I must say I am very grateful that people like yourself exist. You naive ones helped me out big time thinking you could purchase a precursor for only 100g or a whole stack of Charged Lodestones for a mere 50g.

Yeah I had those arguments too where the responses were that ANET would fix it even if they got scammed. People are way too naive and way too dependent on others to fix their messes. Why risk such a thing? The answer is usually greed.

I agree everyone should use the TP - but not everyone out there is a jerk.  I was trying to mail a guildie the mats to make me something involving a whole bunch of T6 materials a week or two ago.  In my somewhat inebriated state (don't come back from the bar and try to mail things to people!) I sent it to a guy I'd messaged about a party invite instead.  He was totally nice and mailed it right back before I'd even noticed the mistake with subject line "wrong person."

Yay, nice people!

This has happened multiple times before. ANet has stated before they won't pursue cases of scamming that resulted from circumventing the TP.

One of the main reason there is a TP is to avoid mail scamming. You need to assume responsibility of your actions, think what you did and learn from your mistakes. I doubt ArenaNet will help you here.

Another mistake, easy to make is to call "everyone out there is a jerk", for example, few days ago (for christmas events) I was playing with my second account (didn't play with it for months) and found out someone mailed me some items by mistake, what I did is to contact this person and mailed back all his item. he was very happy :)

I have said it before: Always use a trusted proxy if you don't wish to go through the TP, especially so when you are dealing with big amounts.

The problem is that the OP did it the wrong way, no offence.
