So I read an article about how this person was owning others with this style.

Basically you go in with toolkit skill 3 prybar which causes confusion when someone is about to unload a bunch of dps on you. Then you hit skill 4 gear shield right away to block the incomming damage.

Problem is that the damage they do to themselves is nowhere near the dps they can do to me. Not only that but the time it takes both prybar and gear shield to where off is almost a joke. Seems almost as if they are gone in 2 seconds as the damage starts hitting me hard at that point and the other person is barely damaged at all.

If we don't have any huge dps that we can do as a class then we should at least be able to do enuff with blocks and confusion to cause people to take pause and re-evaluate how they fight against us if they take huge damage from unloading burst dps on us.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. I seem to have gone full circle to flame thrower/shotgun/flame turret/heal turret/ net turret as these seem effective with......3 different nets to stop someone/ flame thrower and flame turret both giving good aoe dps....shotgun pushback w/damage plus flamethrower pushback. also the smoke vent for aoe blind if people are too close. This seems to work since people don't expect this build in pvpt anymore and are surprised by it. Would really like the other build/style to work though.

It's psychology, of course it's not going to work all the time. I know your combo. And it only works against a certain style of bursters such as 100b warriors, and especially the panicked ones, willing to unleash the combo as they saw that you started the hostility with that weird kit of yours.

Also, that combo only works if you do a successfull pull with your Magnet as it knocks them down, giving you the time for you to apply Pry Bar and then Block.

Take also in account the famous Tankcat build, that does exactly that, has its greatest use in WvWvW. In sPvP, in fact, confusion damage is reduced by 50%

That build would just be AWESOME, if you could just jump in + condition damage, + toughness, + vitality gear. We could finally be a complete bunker and using pistol+shield, without forcing on healing, and recommending our souls to the creator each time we get poison.XD

I prefer the more risky prybar + static shot + smoke bomb approach :P then apply poison, burning, and see them wither away while trying to remove the shitload of conditions.

I believe the Tankcat build also uses Elixir B for Retaliation in addition to the Confusion, which definitely does boost the damage return.  That combined with the direct damage from the Pry Bar can definitely leave fast-hitting classes hurting, even in SPvP with reduced confusion damage.  I run a more aggressive version of the original build in PvP that uses Might-stacking with HGH, and the damage can get pretty respectable for a build that can tank 2-3 players without issue.

I didn't realize the reduction in spvp. Guess I will try it in WvW and see the difference. Also didn't use Elixer B so will have to try that as well.. Thanks for the posts.

What about something like this?

You can stack up to 14 stacks of might by switching medkit, while still being tough to take down. To make up for the reduced toughness, I added Protection procs, that help a lot against bursts.

You can hit 4k with prybar, and use jumpshot, blunderbuss and overcharged shot for high burst.

Bombkit helps a lot against thieves, and condems warriors and guardians to a horrendous death. Sadly other classes don't have much trouble against bombs, for they are not forced to stand near you to deal damage. So they will probably dodge and make bombs useless. Even with net shot: 2.5 seconds are rarely enough, given the time to land glue bomb and the delay for the detonation.
But even hip shot hurts, with all that might stacking (14 stacks of might = +520 power).

However, you are gonna die when seriously zerged (I mean... if someone spams conditions on you, while a thief is bursting you, with someone else fighting, while you are alone). But I've yet to see someone survive 3 people, when conditions and burst show up. That's whi I use Elixir C: when I died, I realized most of the times I had 5+ conditions on me, expecially poison.

I think the real enemies you have to face are Mesmers. Probably it's just me, but seems like they can escape anything I do, by forcing me trying to keep myself alive. So the battle lasts many minutes and they manage to take me down.

I never tried it, but maybe you can kill them this way:

wait for the stacks of might -> Drop Big Ol'Bomb -> Magnetic Pull them -> Prybar them -> Big Ol'Bomb blows up -> Jump shot on them -> Blunderbuss -> Overcharged shot -> Throw Wrench. Then Net shot and Prybar them again, I think.

What do you think? Is this useful, or just retarded?XD

Or you can do this: decent trade between might and protection stacking.
