Is it worth salvaging greens/blues? What about salvage items? I'm talking late game of course. Also atm I have a fresh mystic salvage kit.

I personally only salvage whites - not bothering with medium armor any more though as thick leather section just isn't worth a dime. Using crude kits exclusively.

Really don't know why they bothered with all those different kits when there's really only a need for two of them - the crude one and the black lion one. If you NEED the rune/sigil in it, the mystic salvage kit just doesn't cut it for me - I'd hate to get screwed on those remaining 80% - especially as most of my runes range from 1g20 (Soldiers) over 4g20 (Dolyak) to 7g (Divinity).

Jup, salvaging whites with basic kits, selling blues/greens and salvaging rares and account bound exotics with black lion salvage kits is what most people do.

Mind you that salvaging rares is only profitable at lvl 68+.

Fixed.

There should be an educational sticky on that @ Mods.

I salvage white and blue items (I go through crafting mats fast so it's not a big deal to me) and vendor greens. Rares and exotics I salvage for ecto and T6 materials. It's not effective if you are planning on cornering the market, but it gets what I need done.

This is what I do

Whites: salvage
Blues: salvage light and heavy armor only (might change if new purpose is invented to leather stuff)
Greens: merchant
Yellows: Black Lion Salvage Kit if upgrade/sigil. Master Salvage Kit if not.
Oranges: Check TP price compared to upgrade/sigil price if the orange has one and then decide either Black Lion Salvage or Sell at TP.
Pinks: ooooo shinyyyys
Violets: salvage all legendarys! *giggle*

For level 70+ items:

Whites: salvage

Blues: salvage if they would produce mithril/orichalcum, otherwise vendor or tp them whichever gives you more gold.

Greens: If the tp price of their upgrade > max(vendor price, tp price) of item then black lion salvage and sell upgrade in tp otherwise vendor or tp them whichever gives you more gold.

Yellows: see Greens except add price of an ecto to the price of the upgrade, so I tend more to black lion salvage these.

Oranges: see Greens except add price of an ecto to the price of the upgrade.

People tend to overlook the upgrades which can worth more than the item itself.

white: salvage with basic/fine kit
blue: normally I just merch, sometimes I salvage with basic/fine kit
green: merch 99% of the time, although I do check TP for these
yellow (1-69): TP
yellow (70+): master/mystic/black lion salvage for ecto
exotic (not account/soul bound): TP
exotic (account/soul bound): master/mystic/black lion salvage for ecto and sigil/rune

I use basic kits to salvage only whites and blues that are cloth. I rarely salvage leather or heavy armor that's blue/white. I sell them to vendor. I sell all greens to vendor (unless I can get above vendor price at the TP). Rares I salvage for globs with BL kit. Exotics I sell if TP has a good price on them or keep them for an alt. Sometimes I salvage 'em for the runes.

Salvage white cloth, metal and weapons. Vendor leather. Vendor leather salvage items (they vendor for 25c, which is more than the result, lol)

Vendor blues and greens. There are a few greens that are worth TPing: commonly used berserker's weapons (greatsword, staff, gun) and berserker's armor.

Salvage rares.

Put level 75-80 greens into the forge and possibly get a gold.

If you're buying BL salvage kits from the TP, it's irresponsible and stupid to use them on anything other than exotics for superior runes/sigils which sell for 1g+, and the potential of up to 5 ecto per item. Master kits ONLY on rares. vendor or TP greens. basic salvage blues and whites.

Remember on the lower level stuff: those materials also cost money on the TP and people are always crafting lower level stuff either to use or to max the profession. And it's nice to have all the materials you can find from drops and gathering when you're advancing your profession, rather than having to buy it all on the TP.

But I don't min/max. I gather everything even though the time spent is probably better off playing the TP or killing baddies for potential rare/exotic drops. If you're looking for the highest profit-per-hour, you have to research every crafting material and memorize where it all comes from in order to make the call on the fly whether to vendor/salvage/tp. I just save myself the trouble and follow my above strategy, and I do fine.

As long as you can calculate the cost per salvage of the kit that you are using and justify it, then by all means go ahead and use it, but BL salvage kit is more expensive nowadays because of the higher gold to gem price.  It is a gamble whether you would get ectos or not when you salvage a rare.

I check all my drops against the trading post. Several blue items (Berserker's pistol/axe comes to mind) can be salvaged into orichalcum/ancient wood. If the price on the tp (for example 80c) is higher than the merchant price (for example 66c), you can get materials that are worth double that amount...

I vendor all the rest, except high lvl greens. Put those in the mystic toilet and pray for a rare one :)
