I really want to play the race but I just can't create a toon that looks good enough. Really need some inspiration. I mean, I managed to make a good looking Asura, which seemed like an impossible task to me at first, so how hard can it be to make a good looking Charr...

So... could you guys post some screenshots with looks you're satisfied with? I'm not talking armor design/coloring, I'm talking the character itself, pretty much from the creation screen. Gender doesn't matter.


Um... by the way, is the plural "charr" or "charrs"?

I have no charr characters atm so I can't help you there, but are you looking for heavy, light or medium armor? My impression is that charr have some nice looking heavy armors but most light and medium armor sets aren't all that great.

I think it is personal preference what you like but I have not myself seen even one Charr with "cool" light armor. Most "cool" ones are from heavy and some decent from Medium.

My character is actually really ugly, but I made him that way on purpose. He's kind of like a bulldog, he's so weird looking that he's cute in a pitiful way.

I dunno.  I saw a guardian that looked pretty sweet the other day but not sure about light armor.

I think the first 80 (charr elementalist) looks kinda cool.

I guess that would depend mostly on your taste: do you like an old or young look, cute/handsome or ferocious, muscular or lean, color of fur, etc... It might help get a run around the Black Citadel to have a look at various charr NPC.

LoD Pain train looked hella good (I'm was not in LoD, but I've faced them in the early weeks of Tier 1 SoS)


Not sure what they were wearing, but it looked like a mix of charr racial armors and badges of honor armor.

when I was making my alts to sit around as mules until I got to them, I fully intended on playing a charr for my guardian.  It didn't happen.  I spent over an hour in character creator and could not make a single thing that looked anywhere near decent.  most armors look horrible on them as well outside of armors that were designed for them (basically only cultural and maybe CoF).

Nothing in this thread has changed that.  I also had the same problem with asura, they look absolutely horrible imo.  Anet really dropped the ball on all races outside of human and norn and some sylvari (didn't make a sylvari mainly due to game lore reasons than looks).

i think its a LOT easier to make a female charr that looks awesome than a male. also i prefer most armors on female charrs than males awwell. armor that looks bad on a male might not look so bad on a female.

i play both a male and a female charr and really have problems finding armor i like for my male. on my female though, i have a few options that i like the look of.

males just look silly to me in most things, i think the hunchback look is a bit much and just about every shoulder piece is grossly oversized on male charr shoulders. also their physique options are lousy, they are mostly muscular and bulky which doesnt help with the armor problems. and the only non-bulky physique i saw makes the toon look anorexic.

I disagree, cus the female just has 1-2 faces that look "good" or better "acceptable", and everyone uses them. (look up, 2 female charrs = both same face). Not much of unique looking there.

Ghadya the thief- o Ash Legion. Not only do female charrs get a lot less love, but so does the Ash Legion. I actually really like the cultural light armors. I bounce back and forth between duelist and leather armor myself though, occasionally the tier 2 cultural armor as well.

Compare with any other race the leggings are short and the helmet just looks stretched out. Which imo ruins the whole thing.

It's true that most people pick the cutest face, and make the fur color white--but there are a lot of other options which can look really badass. It just takes stepping outside the box

lol that's why I tried to get her tail in the screenshot. I figured if the fluff was visible, it would be a visual cue for people who were uncertain about the gender. Although, just the other day my gaming friend expressed shock when she spoke during the cutscene--he'd gone the whole day thinking my character was male too. <3 genderbender charr

I think the prerequisite for a descent looking charr is to take the slimmer option available otherwiste they look more like cows than cats.
for the face it is hard to get smooth looks for charts but not impossible, although limited.
you have an enormous amount of ugly/ tough/ badass looks though

in the end females have a better chance for a descent smooth face than males

I've been told that I have just about the best looking charr in the game.  I believe it more and more every time I see other charr.  I think it's just that this one looks distinct with the relatively underused fur colors and doesn't look crazy, clearly female and not extremely ugly or cute looking.  Naturally, I have other charr, but this ele is the best one.

This is why I only use archon leggings and helms.  Everything else has tail clipping, looks bad or would clash with most other armor.  Charr light armor is in a very pitiful state.

I think it depends with this. Males look good with the thinner body types, but if you give a male the thinnest body in combination with the largest horns, they look so top-heavy you'd expect them to fall flat on their faces any second. And for the females, the small body types are so rail thin they look painful. In a lot of cases, their heads are bigger then their waists and that's just urgghh awful-looking. I pick average bodies for my males and thick bodies for my females--their anatomy seems more balanced that way.

Agreed. Even medium armor has a lot of problems. Heavy armor looks best on charr. Although, there are some exceptions.

Horn clipping is an issue but for the most part I've learned to ignore/rationalize (holes in the skin for the horns)
