Good build for learning ranger?

Is there a build that is good for learning the ropes of the ranger? Particularly one that I can pop into sPvP with right away.
I must admit, I don't typically like pet classes so I'm looking for a build that doesn't rely too heavily on pet attacks. I understand the ranger is designed to rely on pets but what I mean is I'd like a build that isn't dependent on pet skills to make the kill but rather the pet is a bit more passive.
What do you guys think? Is this plausible or should I try a different class?

Try it out while messing around with weapon sets...Sword is arguably our best weapon and when used with torch gives you a great way to:
a) Fire combo field finisher by dropping torch 5 then using sword 2 twice
Axe won't do any of that but it will stack weakness, bleed and chill!
Edit: SB has THREE finishers!!!

Some not-so-obvious notes about the build:
All armor I run is Vit/Tough focused with splashes of condition/precision.
Devourers are tough pets, fire at range so they generally stay out of the fight and have a built in escape mechanism. Their special abilities are meh but mostly I use my pet as buffer and a distraction. Another interesting choice is to put a pet on peace mode and pick two that have useful abilities.
Rampage elite is awesome and a good overall choice but I have switched to entangle. Entangle is a tide changer in group fights, stops shatter mesmers/thieves cold, great for escaping, works very well with condition bonuses and so many players simply die because they don't know how to escape the roots. It also ignores the Z axis so it will hit people on walls/behind doors.
Warhorn has two incredible abilities. The first is a great GROUP combat/speed buff and the second are birds which drop a ton of attacks which conversely stack a lot of bleeds when done right. Torch is good but not nearly as useful in a group situation.
Ditching healing spring. Healing springs is the best group heal in the game IMO and king in PvE. It should be slotted in some PvP scenarios but mostly I run the stock heal because it fires more often, spike heals for more and doesn't root the ranger to a specific area. PvP is very chaotic and I find most of the time moving is what keeps a ranger alive so I would rather have a big heal that fires more often. It is with a heavy heart I skip the better group choice though.
Sigils I use % to crit hit on the bow because crits are more damage and more chances to condi. Use endurance on axe because it is a great escape sigil allowing the ranger to hit swiftness from the horn and get an extra dodge in. Bleed chance on crit with the horn because it works so well with the bird attack.
I also fire zephyr after each heal whether it is ready or needed.

I never said it was hard to play a ranger but I don't think it's as simple as you have beautifully illustrated it to be. It's just has "hard" to play as other classes (if not more frustrating given the state of pets and projectile bugs i.e. arrows being obscured for no reason.)
What makes you think it is so easy to play a ranger compared to other classes? If you seriously only use QZ and spam #1 then you're doing it wrong.

Well they sound pretty bad to be honest. If you are truly only using QZ and spamming one and they are getting pwned and calling you op then they sound pretty bad. Pretty damn bad even.

Yeah I would disagree with that. I have played every class (with the exception of mesmer) and while each class has different mechanics, I haven't found any class to be "easier" than the others.
You're starting to sound kind of like a troll at this point, so I'll just move along and let you QQ!
