I have:

intel i7 970 3.20GHZ
9GB RAM
GeForce GTX 260
resolution: 1600 x 1200

and generally I get 38 ~ 47fps in PVE, and that's with nothing exciting going on. Does that sound right? I'm sure the answer is obvious but I know nothing about computers, bought this one a couple years ago for reasons not at all related to gaming.

EDIT: this is with shaders/shadows/textures on medium, no AA, no reflections, low post processing

The i7-970 is not a bad processor - it's around the level of an Ivy Bridge i3 - so it should be okay for PvE. It will struggle in WvW and large events.

The GTX-260 is now equivalent to an entry-level card like an HD7750 or 550 Ti. So, even at 1600x1200 you can't expect too much.

So, yes, it sounds right. You could maybe make some graphics settings changes to boost fps a bit.

you would probably get a decent boost from upgrading that gpu.

Upgrading the video card would be the biggest boost to your FPS, but you could look into overclocking your CPU as well.
