I've always wanted one...
I guess i went out and made one for myself!

(i hope the images aren’t too big)
i’m going to attach more too this post! i’m not the best at postsPosted Image.
Ever since Beta i’ve loved Rytlocks character. I even received the cuddly toy as a present but decided to take it one step further by making a posable action figure.
This may seem strange at first but i’m actually learning to make toys and products as a job and am currently in my final year of university. The point of me making this was to take a character that i particularly love the style and personality of and recreate it to a level that i was happy with.
I’ve been quite nervous to post this up, i think over the time of making it i grew quite attached to this project and it’s become quite a personal little thing. (and there will only ever be one!)
He’s about 25cm tall (and a bit wobbly on the legs) but hes a heavy toy and very sturdy (probably like the real character).

Like a lot of things, he started life as an armature on my laptop.

I usually use Zbrush to make most of my figures and other programs for the joint addition. He took about 5 days to make as i found his slightly peculiar body shape hard to add joints in that would be suitable for a real physical toy (not falling over on his face).

Next thing you know, you have a little monster sitting on your desk slightly sticky and in pieces. Well its not quite that simple but converting a model to print and then cleaning it is very tedious and gross. All his parts alone took around 45 hours just to print out. He was printed on an Objet24.

Once you’ve got your primed and slightly…. stable Rytlock, then you just paint him! This took about a week on and off with mostly airbrushing and hand painting for things like eyes.
The base in the final full image is the GW2 logo, laser cut from Mirrored red acrylic, and opal white acrylic.
Also he was based on an older version of Rytlock not used in the game as it is now, but i always remember this one as being my favorite ;p
Sorry for all the images and messyness i'm not a great forum poster :)
But for more work i have a blog with more images on:
http://klhyatt.wordpress.com/
Next will be his sword, i haven’t quite worked that one out yet but the flame will probably be tinted resin. but right now i need a break!
I hope you guys like him.

...the cost uhhhhhahahah...yes... well...
it cost me personally £350, un-subsidised it would have been 650!
ouch!
but it was totally worth it this was my first ever 3D printed action figure! and probably my last haha
thanks for the support though im glad you like it, it's been a total challenge making this thing!

Edit: i attached a back picture here if anyone is interested in his manly butt cloth

haha thanks :) i think when you spend so long and so much on making something it becomes a bit of a baby to you ;p usually i'm carefree over projects but this one took me by surprise :P
i spent a few weeks carrying him home in a box of foam peanuts with a little head poking out the top...

I've got the collector's edition Rytlock figure on my desk beside me. Comparing the two, I'd say yours looks just as good if not better. That is one seriously awesome charr you made!

haha thanks! yeah i always liked the collector figure but i missed out on it, but it gave me the chance to make a totally articulated model :)!
Thackeray would be a lot easier to make than Rytlock but still excessively expensive because he'd be printed, unless he was made smaller :s. i'll have a think on it tomorrow when i have the software to check! he would be a great counterpart to this model though:p

As a 3D artist, I am very impressed! Great job on the base model!!
Just out of curiosity... how many polygons are in the final figure, so that you could print it this nice and smooth?
Also, 3D printing is CRAAAAZY stuff! ^_^

Congrats on a great job :)

I had a chance to play with this beasty before he was painted. He's also very posable (elbows, wrists, knees etc. can all be moved), and surprisingly heavy. Awesome job!

the final model is around 6.5 million i believe! although industry standard is usually higher for this kind of toy (closer to 9 million) but i find that high resolution models converted to STLs put an increasing strain on printing programs. the bulk body armature is a very low count (as can be seen on the arms and legs) to allow for joint addition, i could have sculpted the bandages also on the computer but it would have lead to quite a few problems ;).

Really amazing piece of work!   Terrific detail and impressive final product.   Thanks for sharing it.

Could we see a photoshoot with your figure beating up a bunch of other action figures?  :D    Or perhaps Rytlock standing triumphant over a bunch of decapitated Barbies?

he does have moveable joints, his head, knees, ankles, hips, shoulders, wrists and elbows all move to a reasonable extent considering what hes wearing!

As promised i took some photos of Rytlock beating up any other toy in my room to claim dominance. Sadly although i like making toys i don't currently own many so the selection was pretty limited, but i chose the best i could find.
Also sorry for the blurry images it was a juggle between holding the camera and making sure he didnt fall on his face...

First contender, the Alien, its ok its my least favorite and id guess Rytlocks too ;p.
He doesn't need his flaming sword to crush an alien skull in to the ground...
Posted Image
Green ranger ate it next with a well thought out throwdown.
I was also kinda surprised he could actually support the weight of another action figure x).
Posted Image
...the legos just never saw it coming...

Surprisingly fun posing Rytlock beating up action figures, its almost as if its what hes made to do :P and after that he claimed full dominance of the figurine shelf. Now i just have to watch out for crudely made war machines... I'm glad i don't own meccano...

(insert in game mount joke here)
This was just too perfect. Beware plush mounted Charrs!
TO WAR!!! AND TOYS-R-US!

Enjoy guys! I'll update when he has a sword :P
