Hello guys, I'm new on this Forum but i want start discussion about something really important for me. I craft Legendary Torch, it's called "Rodgort", I am close to finish, just few mats and WvW tokens.
My primary question is: Which of my character should wield that cool weapon, my main is Mesmer (but i don't know and never try any good torch build), second character that i just made is Guardian (I think this class have better options in using this kind of weapon).

Any one can give me advice in decission :) ? Which of them should take that breathing fire dragon head to hand :D ?Meyby there is other posibility, i don't know other types of professions :)

(Sorry for any English mistakes, I'm writting on phone and I'm from non-english speakin
g country:))

Guardian and Ranger, never tried torch on my mesmer.

Hopefully legendaries will be account bound in the near future or added into HoM for the skin across all characters for all levels.

guardian or ranger.  mesmer torch is underwhelming at best, while the other 2 have at least some use for it.

I'd agree with Guardian as well. Primarily because that is part of my dungeon-runner gear.

However, let's be conservative and ask, "What can you do to make sure that the character you select deserves the uber gear you are building?" I suggest that you buy some rare or exotic torches and try those out on each class first. This way you have a very good feel for how the torch behaves for each class with comprable damage output. You minimize risk of soulbinding to a class you don't like, and the character that you like running torch with the most gets the proper upgrade.

Hex.
[ Typically does scepter / (torch or focus) for a lot of dungeon combat... ]

And of those two, guardian is probably best choice.

Also agree with Hex:  try it out first. You can even get a low level one and run through the lowbie zones to get a feel.

Use it on the class / character you want to play, and enjoy the torch abilities on the most. That's the best use of a legendary.

- runs explorables with guardian (mace/focus & scepter/torch - and sometimes swaps the focus & torch)

I enjoy running torch on my Mesmer in a confusion build, but that's really only good for WvW. But torch is simply amazing on my condition Ranger. Torch is neat on Guardian, but I prefer shield and focus.

I'd say if you don't like confusion builds on Mesmer, then pick Guardian.

One of the mesmer torch skills is invisibility. If you have a legendary to show off, why would you want to be invisible? :P

Ranger is the only real option for using the legendary torch. The mesmer skills are rubbish, meaning that you will almost always be disadvantaged by running a torch build. Guardian's aegis effect covers it up, ruining it. What's the point of having the best skin in the game when you cannot even see it?

So my choice will be Guardian (I don't like Rangers, and Cofusion on Mesmer is waste of time if it works now pnly in PvP modes :/). But can someone please tell me what kind of roles can play Guard with Torch in hand? I'm tired of full DPS, fist group of mobs wipe parties and see my future Guardian in some Tanky role, can i do it with that weapon?

Saying confusion works only in PvP is an oversimplification - but a lot of monsters in PvE don't attack fast enough to get the full effect that confusion is balanced for. So confusion tends to be a lot more powerful in PvP as a result.

If you want to go tanky as a guardian... torch is probably the worst offhand for that. This is not to say you can't do it - you can build defensively, wear tanky armour and accessories, and equip a mace in your primary hand for the block and healing that provides. However, if you really just want to be a tank, it's probably shield or focus that you want.
Got any comments or queries about moderation in one of my spheres of responsibility? Make sure I get the message!

Two of us in my guild run with a torch offhand in a tank / dps role. We do just fine with just one guardian in the group as we are doing explorables with only 4.

My guildmate runs scepter/focus for range and swaps to mace/torch for tank/melee.

I run mostly with mace/focus for tank and swap to scepter/torch (for range/cleanses as needed).  Although sometimes I switch those around and run with my guildmate's pairing. I have also run with hammer as needed.

Defining "tank", "dps", "support", etcetera on a guardian isn't just weapon dependent, it's combo of weapon, talent build, utility skills, gear stat (combos). And of course player skill and preference.

Guardian IMO.

Here is why:
  • Guardian's best PvP set is sword/fire atleast in terms of damage output.
  • I haven't personally tested it but if its highest output in PvP it must apply to PvE as well.
  • Not very good defense but guardian has great utilities and staff to switch over to for this.
  • Good AoE damage output.
  • Blue *ing flames

Like draxynnic said, confusion still works in PvE. It's just not as effective since players attack much faster than PvE mobs. I also can't think of any AoE abilities that apply confusion (except for traited Mesmer glamour skills, which have a longish cooldown), but there are lots of AoE poison and fire abilities.

So confusion isn't a complete waste. You can wreck in WvW, it's good in PvP, and it's still solid in PvE provided you are against a small number of fast attacking mobs (like in dungeons). Fortunately for Mesmer, you can just swap to staff if you're dealing with a lot of slow mobs.

As for going tanky with torch on Guardian, you're honestly better off with focus. Focus is just amazing. If you're using two one-handed weapons, I prefer shield. Granting AoE protection is incredibly useful, and shield's second ability provides some control and healing. I always swap to Scepter/Shield whenever I need to help raise someone.

That said, you can always swap to torch whenever you don't need to be tanky. But why craft a legendary that you'd only use occasionally? How committed are you to crafting this specific legendary? Also, do you like Ranger at all? Torch is very fun in a condition Ranger build.

Not to put down dps Guardians... I just think torch is better on a Ranger and still useful on a Mesmer.
