What is Know your Gurus, you may ask?

It's simple, every 3/4 days, a different person will be in the spotlight. When that person is in the spotlight, you can ask them

ANYTHING YOU WANT, even non-gaming questions!*

Spoiler

After that person's turn, their KYG thread will be locked and a new one will be started, with a different person. That means that if you don't get to ask your question in the 3/4 days the member is in the spotlight, you'll have to....... well, find some other way to ask them.

What's the point of this segment, you may wonder? To put it simply, to get to know each other better. Feel free to ask crazy or unusual questions. Heck, ask complete nonsense questions (Why did the brick build a cheeseburger?) if you want, just to see their response.

Please note that just because you ask a question, it doesn't mean that the person in the spotlight has to answer it, but they DO need to reply to it, so expect something, even if it's just a "I will not answer that". Despite this restriction,

you can ask as many questions as you want, but try to keep them in only one post.

Keep in mind that others have questions to ask too, so don't go too overboard on the number. Keeping it short of a dozen is just common politeness.

Also important, you may not get into discussions with other members than the spotlight member. This segment is only to get whoever is in the spotlight to be more well know. If you're wanting to ask someone else something, you'll either have to wait for their own spotlight, or ask some other way.

Upcoming members spotlights:

(For ease of referencing, Members are black, Mods are blue, S-Mods are green, and Admins are red.)

(Jan 12th or 13th) Feathermoore

(Jan16th or 17th) Archaes

(Jan 20th or 21st) Soki

(Jan 24th or 25th) HawkofStorms

Something different is to follow in February......

1 - Why did you have to be Number 9? https://www.youtube....h?v=LVf5Cr4M-F8

2 - Is your username an intended typo of Fear, or some other thing?
3 - Preferred internet browser between these 6: Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Mozilla?

  • I actually don't like The Beatles that much.
  • It looks cleaner than typing it the way it's pronounced, and more character-limit-friendly in games that require two names (like Guild Wars).
  • I jump between them as needed and don't really have a favorite, but I've started using Chrome for most things.

Do you live on a boat? If not, would you like to live on one?
Do you like to eat crunchy stuff?
If you could have one of these super powers for one day which would you choose?
A: super strength (able to lift 3 tons)  B: short ranged teleportation (max 5 meters)  C: invisibility (max duration 10 minutes, has to recharge for 30 minutes)

I don't think I'd enjoy living on a boat; wouldn't want to surround all my electronics with that much water. Crunchy stuff is pretty awesome usually, so long as it's crunchy because it's a potato chip or fresh lettuce, and not crunchy because there's a roach in it. Of the three powers, I guess I'd take teleportation, because it'd make bathroom runs faster.

How do you manage to balance your legendary zero tolerance of fools with the restraint necessary to be a moderator?

I mean, I've seen the real, un-censored you. How do you turn it off, eh?

In relation to the post above, can we get a video of the real uncensored you? Would such a video be better viewed with popcorn or a blanket to hide under?

Do you turn your lights on at night while on the computer?

Where in time is Carmen Sandiego?

Why hello there forumite. Would you like me to review some moderation you did not agree with? Never fear! PM is here! Want to be a better poster? Check on this link! And this one!

It's very difficult to do, actually. I could probably write an essay in response to this one, but at the end of the day, the most important parts of moderating (I've always felt) are caring above all else for community growth and development, ensuring that your responses to community issues are always appropriate for the state the community is currently in, and that you don't get too emotionally invested in any particular conversation.

Take our Gaming forum for example; I play most of the games that are discussed there, and have very strong (and detailed) opinions on all of them. I don't agree with other people who say Planetside 2 is good, or that Dark Souls is too hard, but that doesn't mean I don't respect their right to their own opinion, and it certainly doesn't mean I'm going to use my ability to delete everything they say to punish them for being wrong. While I love games, I also understand that when I volunteered to moderate Guru all those years back and then to continue working with the team on Guru 2, I put myself in a position of responsibility, with a duty to the community to keep my emotions out of discussions that regular posters are able to get super invested in. People are going to say dumb things sometimes, and be downright idiots, but I don't need to respond with even more idiocy.

I pity the fool that dares to cross me, though.

No, popcorn, my two monitors and laptop are bright enough to light up my whole room, currently in 1780 preparing to steal George Washington's dentures.

tell us about  your favorite gaming marathon, and if it's not your most embarrassing one please tell us where it ranks.

Not a lot of people actually read MI, and even fewer bother to post.

I don't really marathon games that much, though I did play Diablo III for like 3 days straight when it launched (after the servers stabled up, that is). Not a lot of chances to sit down and get absorbed in video games, what with having to go to work and all.

If you could be any kind of tree, how would you change GW2G?

You are fooling yourself, user. Nothing here is what it seems. ANet is not the plucky hero, Guru is not an evil empire, and this is not the grand arena.

Hello Faer,

Will you ever get tired of playing mmorpg?

What is the meaning/significant of your user name? Faer?

Home is no more, you are to face with a time of chaos, to fight to survive, you were able to grab, just in time, one thing before you leave home, what is this thing.

along the way, you encounter fellow guruers, would you team up with them? and who would you team up with?

What is your favourite food when playing Guild Wars 2

would you ever let someone else play your favourite guild wars 2 character?

What is this character's race and profession, where does she/he likes to travel most in the land of Tyria?

Do you like the jumping puzzles in Guild Wars 2? have you completed the halloween and wintersdays one?

do you think the pinipal is related to the quaggan?

would you, if there's a real life Gurus meeting, attend?

if there is a meet at all, who are you most anxious to meet from this forum?

I've been tired of MMOs for a while.
There isn't any. It's just a name.
Jug of water.
Depends on if they have anything I want.
I don't eat while playing GW2 because I don't play GW2.
Don't have a favorite, but I've let somebody else on my account.
I don't personify my digital dudes, so they have no favorite places.
Jumping puzzles are... meh. I don't mind them, but they aren't really that great.
It's certainly fugly enough to be related to the fuggers.
Probably not; too many people here are underage, and I like to drink at social events.
My protégé, Corsair.
