I used from day1 the minimum possible of karma anywhere. Didn't regret my choice at all, i enjoyed his use later for special items like ash kit

I'm not with you. I generate karma at an alarming rate without boosters, jugs, drops, etc.

What I buy with karma:
- Harvesting tools -- occasional
- food items
- recipes
- misc. gear: (breathing masks) ; at sub 80 selective weapon / armor / acc. upgrades.
- random crafting items (sun beads)

So one fine day the guild decided to take the Temple of Balthazar in order to get stuff from the karma vendor there. I burned a booster on 30 jugs and was able to get myself a full stack of shards + a needed armor piece; leaving my karma at 1200 or something like that. In about 3 weeks I'm back up to 140k and 25 jugs in the bank.  That 140k is with me only using up 3 karma drops because my inventory was full. The only reason my on hand karma is that low is the wad of recipes and food items I found while doing map completion in Fireheart Rise.

I have no idea how anyone can be starving for karma... it strikes me as absurd actually. Sure, I try to do dailies every day, but that is just one karma jug.

Hex.
[ Excluded the Dwana armor set I bought before the Balthazar run... ]

Well, depends on which way you level. On my first char I had about 300k karma on level 80 and I didn't use it  at all before that. On my other chars I only have about 60k due to leveling up in dungeons rather than on maps. Such an amount doesn't make any difference, but then again you can't really buy anything useful with karma before you reach level 80 apart from a few salvage kits and cooking supplies, which are very cheap.

It does drop... even in lower level area's because it depends on YOUR level, but for me it doesnt drop very often and its usually nothing i can use.

If you have such basic questions about the game Red Sonya, please post them in Q&A. Tyrian Assembly is used for discussing aspects of GW2.

EDIT:

What's an "aspect" of GW2? Oh wait should I ask this in Q&A also? I mean the origional topics is a "QUESTION" right? Shouldn't that have been asked in Q&A then? Just trying to understand how the system works here is all. ;)
Never mind, didn't notice you were the creator of this thread and were asking for clarification. Your first question which started this thread is asking for our opinions, which is okay for Tyrian Assembly. Questions we can answer factually (like look it up) are better suited to Q&A.

I actually had no idea that you could upgrade it. My lvl 70 warrior is my highest character and he's still running around with the starter water-headpiece.
Nor do I bother with accessories - I think I have some 3 of the 6 slots covered and they are drops only.

I know your post is a little old, but accessories give you larger stat buffs than armor (sans defense). In order of stat weight:

weapon > chest > amulet > ring = pants > accessory > helmet > shoulders = gloves = boots

Salvage kits and gathering tools are worth it during leveling, but nothing else.

Food items only if you are going to level cooking (but buying stack of them saves waypoint costs later, so it is recomended.)

Recipes are nice but very optional,

Equipment is not worth it unless you like skin and want to keep it for transmutes.

So yes, buy only consumables and crafting materials, save rest for L80 exotics or forcheap greens you can toss to mystic forge (and hopefully get ecto bearing items)

Just doesn't make sense really since leveling is sooooo FAST that you don't even get to keep/use a piece you get along the way for very long.

I say save it until you get to level 80....who's wit me? ;)

I did that too, then desided crafting my own gear because i could choose my own stats would be better.
So now i have tons of karma i cant use or change to gold....

After deciding that I wasn't going to bother with a Legendary weapon anytime soon and that I would rather get crafted armor rather than karma armor, that left me with a lot of karma. I've been spending it on cultural weapons at 63k karma each, fine salvage kits which you can get from the Charr cultural weapon seller (free salvage kits!) and ash legion spy kits (so useful, turn you invisible for 10 seconds if you are not moving or attacking. Excellent for rezzing a player during combat, breaking agro and harvesting/communing under the noses of hostile mobs) which you can get from a low level heart person in the Charr noob area.

Everyone does.

I've got over a million karma accumulated over 5 different characters. I only need so much cheese wedges in bulk...

Ended up with some 3g from those 40k karma. Not much, but still better than having all that karma go to waste.

Only save it if you want max stat gear and you can reasonably obtain it. Otherwise no no really point in saving it.

One, karma is plentiful at level 80 and there is little reason to save it early on. Two, karma items aren't that great looking (IMO). Three, karma items have only a couple of different attribute configurations and may not be what you are looking for. Four, you can get any dungeon gear in the game in half the time it would take you to get full karma gear, not to mention more gold earned as well.

I hold the karma with one exception... karma vendors that have various foods for cooking. Nice to be able to stock up when you come across them.

The karma you make from 1->80 is miniscule to the amount of karma you'll start accumulating at 80.

I would spend it, if only to make leveling more amusing, and save your gold for level 80 gear.

Remember balthazar faction points we got in early GW1? Eventually they allowed us to turn that into Z-Keys which in turn could be sold for gold or used to gain random items from the Zashien chest. Maybe that is what they will do with Karma eventually?

Yup exactly what I did at my first character, although I used mostly loot drops.
And as you said, if I remember correctly I got ~50k karma when I reached lvl80, just enough for 1 orrian piece.

How did you only have 50k karma at 80? My first character had close to 120k karma as soon as i hit 80. Just doing events as you level and not wasting karma jugs when you don't have karma boosts should net you enough for at least 2 pieces of temple gear

The manner in which you get to 80 makes a huge difference. My first character took 2 crafting disciplines to 400 on the way to 80, which resulted in many levels without karma gain. I had nowhere near 50k when I got to 80.

I also maxed jeweler and tailor to 400 on my way to 80, still not sure how you could ever need more karma as I constantly accumulate just by playing the game. two days ago I spent all my karma on orrian jewelery boxes, today I have around 100k again. Karma is like that annoying cousin that you just can't get rid off XD

I don't need karma at all. I'm guessing you use liquid karma? Didn't exist when I first got to 80. I still never use it, have around 150 jugs in storage, just from the dailies. Some other, smaller, containers too. I'm saving it for when something interesting to spend it on makes its way into the game, on the character I want it on.

Karma exotic gear should have pure offensive stat combinations available. People can buy them from TP anyway and the amount of karma required for each piece is high enough.

I was lvl80 in 3 days, there were no karma jugs, dungeon didn't reward karma and Orr was still pretty empty, not to mention I hate Orr, in my ~700h I played maybe 4-5 hours in total there on 4 different characters.
And I was already lvl80 by the time I got out of Mount Maelstrom.

its a currency just like coin and laurels.

Equipment is available for karma, and its pretty decent when leveling up.

On the beggining of the game i didnt spend any, karma was harder to get and i wanted the armor (which i never got because i changed my mind) now its an abundant resource, so yeah, spend away.

I tried to go without spending any Karma on my alts but found that I was not getting enough open world drops to keep my armor/weapons within a reasonable level of the content I was facing.  So I spend some Karma, not really enough to keep me from getting exotics as I don't spend more then maybe 3-5K total.  So what it causes me to wait 1 extra day to get my full exotics not a big deal.

I personally don't bother until level 80.  Once you learn how to "finesse" the system and have one solid character who can feed the others resources leveling is just not that hard.  I am a very casual player and I have three level 80s.  The gear is what takes me a while.
