Tera runs UE3 which is a fantastic engine and looks great. However GW2 merges the static background art into foreground graphics beautifully. I sometimes feel like I am playing inside an amazing oil painting.

Now the question is - will they still be offering the Veteran status AFTER it goes F2P? I am thinking it could be fun to try it out and then if I end up enjoying it, buy the box for the removal of the restrictions.
EDIT:
Quote
With the launch of our Free2Play version there is no longer any need to buy a box or digital version. The game can then be downloaded for free on our website. Of course it is possible that some retail partners will still have copies of TERA in stock. You will still be able to gain the Veteran account status by buying one of those copies.
Also, I COULD try the trial now instead of waiting. ^^
EDIT 2:

Well, shit.
Might as well just get an action game instead.

Tried it in beta, got bored and annoyed after less than an hour.

I'll try the game first, and if I really enjoy it I'll consider shelling out cash for the retail version before f2p hits. If I feel it deserves my money it will get it - but not in the form of cash shop purchases. I'd rather buy the box, and get my 8 character slots from there.

Well to be honest GW2 did exactly the same over hyped their combat system and other things. Every game does it, it's how you sell it.
Anyway, I will pick it up again when F2P goes live, I did enjoy it.

MMOs aren't the hot thing to invest into anymore. Blizzard has solidified its spot as the 10 million juggernaut that no one can take down. Not many companies can afford huge productions.

Anyways to anybody that knows is there a free trial? And if yes, how long?

While some of the world looks good, They are way too empty, especially if you just played GW2. It's very flat, there's no vegetation and there's no wild life and no population anywhere else than quest hub. And naturally, since its korean, monster make no sense with the world at all.
Best thing about Tera is being asian, so it's very colourful, there's cute stuff and very good animations. It's great when you've been playing american game for a while to get cuteness and great animation in a world that don't look like a brown ugly attempt at realism with everyone looking as old as my parents.

I'm in the FFXIV alpha testing... after playing it for a bit i realized i'm spoiled by GW2 mechanics and gameplay. Final Fantasy will always stay true to traditional MMO mechanics and feels a bit 1-dimensional. It is much prettier looking than any other MMO out there at the moment though... but that's the same to be said about Square always. They always look pretty... but that's it. It's not until you go play another MMO that u realize u took certain things from GW2 for granted.

The era of pay to play is over. Free to play is today's preferred.

As to the other people that say f2p is the future, I think that f2p is the future for substandard games. I think or would like to believe that future sub based games have to prove their worth, but at the same time given how so many games have failed; I think a lot of companies except possibly blizzard lack the resources to be able to create such a value.
In all honesty I think b2p is the future with constant content to sucker (which is a good thing in this case) to stick around, ofc the game cannot go from a sub to b2p, it has to have been designed or released in that state.

(These guys seem to be even cooler than the asura.)
Tried it for 10 minutes, logged out and already told my friends that they can stop downloading this because we're not playing it.
I am REALLY not an MMO person it seems.
