Free questionably legal cat girls!
It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.
Every patch is like ArenaNet walking out onto the stage of the International Don't Kitten Up Championship, and then proceeding to shiv itself in the stomach 30 times while screaming "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

Cool. Sometimes I actually wish the GW2 graphics took a little more cue from the TERA graphics (not so much the actual character models, but the world is more beautiful).

Can't wait for this!  Also, eager to try that FFXIV MMORPG, hopefully that one turns to F2P as well.

Tera runs UE3 which is a fantastic engine and looks great. However GW2 merges the static background art into foreground graphics beautifully. I sometimes feel like I am playing inside an amazing oil painting.

If they paid me to play this game, I might consider it.

It's truly annoying to see all these companies make half decent mmos and no super company making a huge mmo that would outclass all the free 2 play cash shops, and vaguely interesting famous license games.

I tried that trial, and gave up after 30 minutes..

I need to try it for the combat alone.
Now the question is - will they still be offering the Veteran status AFTER it goes F2P? I am thinking it could be fun to try it out and then if I end up enjoying it, buy the box for the removal of the restrictions.

EDIT:

Quote

Do I still need to buy the box or digital version once the game goes Free2Play?

With the launch of our Free2Play version there is no longer any need to buy a box or digital version. The game can then be downloaded for free on our website. Of course it is possible that some retail partners will still have copies of TERA in stock. You will still be able to gain the Veteran account status by buying one of those copies.
Oh.

Also, I COULD try the trial now instead of waiting. ^^

EDIT 2:
http://www.tentonham...ive-newbie-tips
Well, shit.
Might as well just get an action game instead.

Ah yes. The game with that "awesome and groundbreaking action combat" (I am not sure if that was the exact words but they did hype up their combat quite much before release) that locks you in place when using most of your skills :)

Tried it in beta, got bored and annoyed after less than an hour.

Good news for me!

I'll try the game first, and if I really enjoy it I'll consider shelling out cash for the retail version before f2p hits. If I feel it deserves my money it will get it - but not in the form of cash shop purchases. I'd rather buy the box, and get my 8 character slots from there.

Well to be honest GW2 did exactly the same over hyped their combat system and other things. Every game does it, it's how you sell it.

Anyway, I will pick it up again when F2P goes live, I did enjoy it. :)

MMOs aren't the hot thing to invest into anymore. Blizzard has solidified its spot as the 10 million juggernaut that no one can take down. Not many companies can afford huge productions.

They said that you can still buy the box and get veteran status even after it fully converts into f2p.

Anyways to anybody that knows is there a free trial? And if yes, how long?

What bored me the most in Tera was the leveling being linear quest list. you just chain quest after quest after quest and they are all the same.
While some of the world looks good, They are way too empty, especially if you just played GW2. It's very flat, there's no vegetation and there's no wild life and no population anywhere else than quest hub. And naturally, since its korean, monster make no sense with the world at all.

Best thing about Tera is being asian, so it's very colourful, there's cute stuff and very good animations. It's great when you've been playing american game for a while to get cuteness and great animation in a world that don't look like a brown ugly attempt at realism with everyone looking as old as my parents.

So, I downloaded the free version (not the full F2P, but kind of a trial they have right now) and wow are the servers bad. I don't think I've ever seen a patching process be this bad. Maybe TOR is a close second, but wow this is bad.

I'm in the FFXIV alpha testing... after playing it for a bit i realized i'm spoiled by GW2 mechanics and gameplay. Final Fantasy will always stay true to traditional MMO mechanics and feels a bit 1-dimensional. It is much prettier looking than any other MMO out there at the moment though... but that's the same to be said about Square always. They always look pretty... but that's it. It's not until you go play another MMO that u realize u took certain things from GW2 for granted.

Pfft it is expected.

The era of pay to play is over. Free to play is today's preferred.

gameforge has a really really really really really really bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad really terribad rep. I played the CB for TERA last year on the NA servers and met many EUs on the US servers, there was also many incidents with gameforge close to the EU TERA launch and some issues with censoring content that people already pre-ordered. I played this game up to lvl 30 though and it was K.

TERA is k, gameforge however...

I kind of liked Tera's combat, but I stoped playing when GW2 betas & summer arrived. Aka I played ~2 months. Warrior was the class I liked most, others felt too easy/slow and warrior at least moves with animation and isn't totally locked to place.

Here is races video:

Here is chart about being free 2 play (note, it is not buy 2 play)

I feel like TERA is one those games you play just to pass time or a break from another game. (i do wish guild wars 2 CC was a little bit more robust as TERA or at least the feature I am looking for ;)

As to the other people that say f2p is the future, I think that f2p is the future for substandard games. I think or would like to believe that future sub based games have to prove their worth, but at the same time given how so many games have failed; I think a lot of companies except possibly blizzard lack the resources to be able to create such a value.

In all honesty I think b2p is the future with constant content to sucker (which is a good thing in this case) to stick around, ofc the game cannot go from a sub to b2p, it has to have been designed or released in that state.

How people didn't see this coming when k-TERA went through three server mergers before it even hit the NA/EU markets is beyond me. They make a big deal about this "targeting" mechanic. All that happens is you aim your screen at the thing you want to hit, click some buttons and, if the monster's eyes glow red, you dodge. That's it. Also, kMMOs usually cover up crappy, grindy mechanics and generally lacking gameplay with pretty graphics so people are lulled into thinking it's a good game. I played Aion for 3 years; I know this all too well.

Tried it for 10 minutes, logged out and already told my friends that they can stop downloading this because we're not playing it.
I am REALLY not an MMO person it seems.
