It's not a surprise they went F2P.

I would not recommend TERA to anyone. Here's the TLDR version:

seems like f2p or b2p is the new way to go, aion went f2p, swtor, and now tera. B2P would seem like the best option unless your WoW. I honestly don't understand how they are still able to charge people to play when there are so many other free MMOs that are very fun.

I honestly do not understand why they simply don't go with the GW2 model - it's not perfect, but it is better than pretty much anything I can see. You pay for the game, get the full game and then pay for the bonuses. Instead they give us a free "game", where half the things aren't working and then expect to see folks pay to just unlock the functionality of the game. It just seems like such a bad introduction to the game - I tried the F2P Aion and when I didn't have whispers (or party chat or something) I just uninstalled the game because they left out such an important function that I didn't even want to test the rest of the game.

Agreed. The payment model was one of the things that drew me to GW2. I believe Star Citizen will be implementing this form of payment (Roberts, the guy behind the project, specifically mentioned GW2 when he talked about the payment plan IIRC) so hopefully we'll see more following in this example.

I think the "tera in 10 seconds" was more accurate as to what the game has to offer.

I gotta agree with this. But with Aion you don't get whispers until level 10? 20? something along those lines, its to help stop gold sellers PMing players and spaming them. I just tried Tera, and realized you can't cast and move at the same time. I absolutly hate that after i've tried it in gw2.

This might be the new "can't swim/jump" hurdle that so many complained about in for example, GW1 vs WoW...

I think it has more to do with the fact that TERA constantly hyped up their awesome action combat.
How can something be action combat if you get locked in place when using more or less every single skill?

Figured after KTera went f2p, Tera NA would would follow the process. It's nice too, because it's actually a really nice game... Just not worth 15$ a month tho. Been waiting a few months for this to happen, and since I bought the game awhile back during beta I'll get founder status. Figured this will be a nice replacement until Anet can get their heads out of the sand.

Oh, and the females... I'm no prude but I think they're too oversexualized (so are the males for that matter, but I don't like the look of any male other than Amani and - technically not male but still masculine - Baraka). I tend to play both male and female characters in RPGs but I actually feel kind of uncomfortable playing female characters in TERA! And the Elin, well their cutesy design may be a pop culture staple in Asia or for fans of anime, but to me it's just disturbing

Still cannot believe how over-sexualized this game is, either.

:-p
I dont know, but somehow im far less enthusastic with this all f2p manner.
Mostly since i know that for free you can got bitten in questionable reputacion district, and its not always since someties they will pick your mobile.
As for games its preatty safe to assume that gaming companies are not kind of crazy charity, but they want your money, all of it.
And they offer game frame for free, they will probably sell you something in future. And to sell something, they will need to take it away from basic version. Probably even artificially create a need for future sales, like for extra inventory space or exp boost.
And to be honest there is nothing apealing in being able kinda avarage games for free or little.
I miss the times when games was complete quality product.

I sense a kindred soul in a similar state of box/manual nostalgia
The good thing with this f2p thing is that you get to try out the game at least - and given one can level all the way to max level and (I think?) don't miss out on content just yet, TERA should be OK for now. I'm not that hot on the game TBH but it's a fun break from GW2, which I've been playing non stop since release (and will continue to do so probably for a while). And I like its more deliberate pace and active blocking system.
