I'm new to necro, and I'm using this build:

I feel I do pretty good against most classes, especially any class that uses boons or conditions, but there is one class that I keep having problems with: rangers.

I don't mean the condition spamming rangers (they are easy to kill), I mean the guys who just pop quickness & spam rapidfire while their pet eats my face off. They don't use many conditions aside from the occasional bleed, and because they are ranged there is no way for me to kite them around!

With thief/warrior I can drop marks to chill/cripple/fear while I kite them around, but vs ranger I only have dagger #4, death shroud #3 and staff #5 which slows him down for a few seconds, but once those CD's are gone he just destroys me quickly

Hell, even those nightmare court ranger NPCs in the sylvari starting zone are decimating my lvl 20 necro =S

I've found that my best chance at 'winning' is just to pop plague elite skill #2 and try to run to the nearest team mate

Rangers dont use longbows ever, so you are in luck.

You're kidding right? One of the best ranger PvP sets includes the longbow...

Okey i have yet to see that build. To my knowledge rangers have never been strong in pvp nor pve for that matter.

Same way as you deal with GS mesmers. get into close range and kill. they're very squishy from close-up

Ranger's success is all about being mobile and while causing you to remain stuck while their pet does the heavy labor in the damage part.  So the best thing you can do is disrupt that by playing their own game of stuckness. Chill, cripple, stun, knock them down as often as you can. Just stay out of reach of their pet while doing so.

Its a gimmick build, they are glass cannon rangers who stand as far behind as possible which is over 1200 range (1500 with traits) and  do +2k crits (+50% crit chance) with crits going as high as +4k or higher.

They go down so fast its not even funny....
