If it were not for alts I would have left this game ages ago.
I have done a level 80 warrior first, then a level 80 Mesmer followed by a level 80 Elementalist.
I have started a thief, and an engineer and got them to the 30s. While I found I could manage the thief's different mechanic and playstyle, it just did not appeal to me, so I deleted it and started a Guardian. The engineer was a disappointment. I had expectations from some other sci-fi MMO Anarchy Online where engineers built these huge deadly bots they commanded, so I found GW2's grenades and turrets underwhelming. I may play him some more, but unless things improve past level 30, I may be deleting him next to make room for either a Necromancer or a Ranger.
I tried leveling all five slots for a while but found that too distracting and found I prefer to level one at a time so I can concentrate my leveling loot income resources on one toon, The only way I could outfit 5 at once would be to cash shop gems to get gold to get TP gear.
I am currently enjoying leveling up a Guardian.
To get back to the topic, I can see that I may want to roll another Warrior at some point, just to build it and level it differently. Since it was my first GW toon, I made plenty of mistakes at first. Now after leveling some other GW professions, I am aware of various aspects of skills, traits, gear, sigils, etc. that I can think of a bunch of things I would do differently while leveling, gearing up for leveling and then gearing up for endgame.
I tolerated the Elementalist. I liked the flexibility of so many atunements and nuking in general, but the squishy kite all the time combat I did not really enjoy. As an elementalist I was always mentally planning escape routes and schemes, so I doubt I will ever roll another.
I can also see that so far I really enjoy the Guardian and can see the possibility for several distinct build routes to follow.
GW2 does not really support convenient build switching in PVE and since I don't PVP, that means no build switching for me.
I also enjoyed the Mesmer but I am not sure if I see that much flexibility in PVE build choices with that class. I think the class is too rigidly defined by it's dependence on pumping out illusions as fast as possible.
So I agree multiple alts of the same profession have an appeal and potential fun factor. I don't think I will find it attractive enough until I have exhausted trying all the classes at least once, which at the rate I go will take some time.
