Right now, I've been leveling using a pistols and elixirs build: http://en.gw2skills....Fv8V0jHD5J/pAbB

I'd like to get some critique on it.  I also would like to do a bit of WvW and dungeon PVE on the side as well.  Am I using the right utility skills, or should I throw in a weapon kit in there?  And what gear stats should I look for? Condition damage and precision? Thanks.

the only way to become a good engineer is to try every kit, every gadget and every elixir during lvling - why would you need a "lvling" build? Engineers do fine in every possible combination - you just have to find yours :)
you will also easily see which stats you want, when you have found your combination (and most of us have a build for a month and change to some other then - thats the great thing about the class, you can have it all).

Just dont spend too much time here (on these forums). You'll hear alot about what doesnt work, and how other classes are better at this and that. the problem is: youll miss out on the fun when you follow the (very) vocal minority into "omg only nades!" or "condition is the way to go, i got the lol maths!"

Why? Because you can lvl and do all the content basically naked. you can beat most dungeons with 5 turret engineers - if they have fun and know THEIR build. Nothing is more sad than the engineer coming to the party telling me he "specced that great build from the forums, but i cant play it and i hate to play it - and what is this med pack switching for guys??111. The class is bugged!!11"

Looks pretty standard for P/P Elixirs. Yes, Condition > Precision gear is the way to go, so once you get to 3-stat gear (lvl 55/60) you'll be looking for Rabid (possibly mixed with Carrion based on availability). You might want to look into Elixir U to get the bleed stacks up a bit faster, but in reality anything beyond H/B is entirely personal preference/situational. That's the beauty of P/P Elixirs

P/P with full Elixirs is just fine, and there are people using it quite effectively. If you wanna go more support you could always throw in Elixir Gun and move 10 pts from Explosives to Tools (Kit Refinement).

this is fairly sound advice for any class for that matter. There is no downside to trying it all yourself and getting a feel for what you like.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I have been experimenting by swapping out a few skills here and there.

Your build uses Elixirs, but if you're willing to experiment, I suggest bringing 2 Turrets along (Rifle/Flame/Rocket). Their recharge times are a little longer, but with proper placement, you can actually create a sort of "base" with your turrets and pull numerous enemies into their attack range. I do this and can take multiple enemies at the same time.

The Pistol works well with turrets because of all the condition and mitigation it does. A lot of the time, enemies will aggro onto your Turrets, and with the Turret defense buff, they can last a little bit. Using Glue Shot can slow enemies before reaching you, and Static Shot punishes them for attacking your Turrets. The Turret toolbelt skills are awesome and enhance the damage dealt from the pistols.

I sometimes take Wrench Kit for the crippling Nails and its toolbelt wrench boomerang skill.

I used to use Elixirs and Gadgets before unlocking most of the Turrets but now it's all I use.
