Now that the game has been out for a while, and all those previous topics are oooollllllddddddd, I'd like to see how things actually worked out in regards to the "popularity" of the professions and races.

So in the poll above, choose the options that represent the profession and race of the character you play the most or consider your "main" main. That is, maybe you have a current main but you consider another character your true main. Or something like that.

The last major poll around here was before the game came out with Guardian and Elementalist at the top and Mesmer and Engineer at the bottom. I'm very curious about the spread on these forums.

ArenaNet released their own race and profession charts but those are kinda old at this point.

So let's see what you got, Guru!

Edit: as for my main, it's a Sylvari Necromancer. It's really the only character I have that's above 20. And now I'm working on making a Human Necromancer xD

Note (before the mods can get to it :P): please remember if you do post, post more than just your answer to the poll :)

Mine has to be my Sylvari Engineer, he is my medic man. If you upset him he'll transform those antidotes into deadly conditions that will have you in a fever. Played him from the 3day head start, he has just over 1,313 hours under his belt.

He still has a few areas to do.....Engineers are just fun they have a high learning curve but once you have the special trick wrapped up in a neat bow the Engineer is as easy to play as a warrior.
Sylvari why because they just offer more not towards the full Engineer profession but towards the green-tinker.

I think Mesmer is far, far more popular now then it was during the beta/initial release because they're are just hundreds of them in WvW,

I was going to say Engineer would of been what I thought was the lowest (or at least one of the lower two) but then LoopySnoopy and BuddhaKeks both say their mains are Engineer :3 but I was also thinking that Guardians appear to be rather sparse now-a-days, at least on Piken Square.

EDIT

Forgot to mention that my main is Norn/Elementalist!

I have a feeling Elementalist, Mesmer, and Guardian are going to come out on top. Warrior, Thief, and Ranger will probably be in the middle, and Engies/Necros will be last. My best character is an Elementalist, but I currently consider my Thief to be my main.

Sylvari mesmer because fuchsia butterflies <3
my predictions are:
warrior>ele>ranger>guard>thief>mesmer>necro>engineer for professions

human>norn>sylvari>charr>asura for races

Oh snap, I forgot about Necromancers xD

Okay I think maybe:

Mesmer > Theif > Warrior > Elementalist > Engineer > Guardian > Necromancer

and as for races, I'd have to agree with Wifflebottom:

Quote

Human > Norn > Sylvari > Charr > Asura

Sylvari necromancer.
And a quick screenshot to go with:
Spoiler

In my opinion:
Necromancer = Guardian = Engineer > The rest of the professions > Mesmer > Ranger
Sylvari = Charr > Norn > Human > Asura, in terms of the race itself. In terms of the players I've run into, Asura > Human, the rest the same.

(Edit: Forgot how much rangers suck)

Far too early for the poll data to be useful; personally I expect that either Warrior or Guardian will end up at the top for class (due to power and ease of play) while Human runs away with race (for obvious reasons), although the userbase of Guru may prove quite different.

Mine is a Sylvari Ranger.  I'd wanted to play a Sylvari ever since I learned about them, and I've always enjoyed pet classes in MMOs.  The beta weekends confirmed I would enjoy the race/class and as a result I have far more time spent on that character than all four of my alts combined.

Charr Necromancer. Originally had an Asuran Necromancer but deleted him after I got to about level 50 on him - and after having played my Charr ever since I'm very pleased with my decision.

<----- Norn Warrior ended up being my "main" (only because of what it brings to our guild group).

Actually tied with my Asuran necro for while then inched ahead.

Followed closely by my Asuran mesmer, Human guardian and maybe I will finish getting my Asuran ranger to 80 just for kicks.

Human guardian.

I just have the feeling it's the most useful class to do dungeons with, or perhaps the role/playstyle suits me most.

Also have a ranger, warrior and mesmer at lvl80 (all humans) of which I play ranger the least.
The mesmer looks the most gorgeous (light armour) but I really dont like the playstyle (clones) and weapon setup (GS animation looks plain ridiculous) a lot.

Human Mesmer. I wanted to make him an Asura but they are so small that when armors and weapons are scaled down (in my opinion) you lose a lot of the detail with the weapons.

Before launch I tried and loved an asura elementalist and thought that it would be my main until death do us part. Now my main is a norn guardian. Loved the elementalist before launch, still love it, but after playing a guardian I find elementalists really really squishy. After trying a guardian I totally fell in love with it and coudn't understand why would I prefer anything that doesn't have so many ways of blocking, supporting the team, removing conditions, buffing, boons, damage, pretty much everything in one profession. So I stick to my guardian to the death!

P.S. I also have a human mesmer (consider it a coward profession, but that's just me), human thief (burst class, squishy mostly), human elementalist (squishy nice damage, but doesn't compensate the squishyness), norn warrior (they hit like a truck and despite having so much HP, they need the support a guardian offers) asura necromancer (fun in DE's, boring solo) - all level 80.

Human Thief... And funnily enough I didn't even aim for her to become my main, I just made one to give my buddy impressions before he got the game, without any intention of playing her much, and ended up liking her so much she got to 80 xD

Human Ranger.  But that's only because I wanted to bring my GW1 ranger over to GW2.  If I hadn't played GW1 or hadn't had a favourite character there I wanted to bring over, it would most likely have been Charr Ranger.  Or Asuran Ranger...

i hope many people participate here - it would be very interesting to see some distributions.

my main is an asura engineer, sometimes i play an asura guard. on the "there are few engineers" topic: thats what the unhappy vocal minority in the engy forums wants you to believe - i think there are tons of engineers - for me its the most fun class without thinking twice.

Human ranks number 1... so many specicists XD

My Charr Warrior is my main as it is now. Warriors are fun and tough, + kitty power is sublime. However, I have a Human Mesmer that I'm playing a lot these days. I find Mesmer to be so awesomely entertaining, not to mention insanely powerful that chances are she'll become my new main in a little while.

It's a shame that even though Reverse Ghost was awesome enough to remind you that you shouldn't reply to poll threads just to parrot what you voted for in the poll, quite a few people are ignoring it!

Please don't do this - feel free to discuss the poll, it's results or what you've voted for, but replying with "charr engineer!" or whatever is a waste of time.  Discussion threads are for discussion.
Do you need help or just want to chat about moderation?  Drop me a PM.

I'm surprised Norn mains are quite low considering they're just humans with big bones IMO.

I think because of their size they appear to move slower.  Personally, I don't like using an axe on my charr ranger, because he's large and has a slower movement.  I love it on my human ranger.

Human ranger.

Up until about a month or so after launch, I would have answered human ele. As it turns out, eles are just a bit too squishy for me in GW2. My human ele was my 1st char and human ranger was the last with all other races and 4 other professions in between (no mesmer or necro). Traits and skills only compensate for a small part of the squishiness and I'm not that good at maneuvering to compensate fully for the rest. My favorite archetype has always been the mage followed closely by hunter with pet. GW gave me my ideal character, my GW main was E/R. :P Human ranger has to watch out though. She's getting some pretty stiff competition from my sylvari and norn rangers. :)

My human ranger (though she'll be my first and main forever!) will get a lot of competition from my charr and asuran rangers once she reaches 100% completion...  My Sylvari ranger and Norn ranger will be next..

It has changed for a while to my Charr warrior when I got the Greatsaw, but it has since gone back to my original main character, my male human guardian.
