My main is my Norn ranger, level 80.  I have to say, I'm enjoying my only male character, a level 35 human warrior.  We women like to look at him, lol.  I do have 8 characters though, only 1 human, 4 norns and three Asuras.

It will be quite interesting to see if this poll gets the numbers to really flesh out the spread of races/professions, if for nothing else at least for GW2Guru community.  Does that necessarily mean that it generalizes over to the entire GW2 community? Not necessarily, but a lot of it depends on how many responses there are to this particular poll. :)  I really hope that this poll garners quite a bit of attention because, as was stated earlier, the info that we have last posted from Anet was from last Oct (I believe it was, may have been Sept even).  By all probability that information is WAY out of date.

I also wonder what people will consider their "mains".  For example, say you run dungeons and fractals with your guild as a Norn guardian because its what fits the group that you run with from your guild, and you do that 4 days a week for 3 hours a night, but you consider your Asuran Mesmer your main because you enjoy playing on that particular character better, even if you play LESS overall hours on your Mesmer.  Or would a person then vote for their Norn Guardian, based off the fact that their Guardian gets more overall play-time?

As for a prediction, which seems to be the popular thing to do here, I would definitely say that Human and Norn will beat out all the other races by a large~ish margin, with Asura and Sylvari coming in next and Charr at the bottom.  For classes, we'll probably see warr/guard/mesmer in the top tier with Ele a contender for top tier, followed by Necro>Thief and then Ranger <> Engi as interchangeable for the bottom slot.  To be sure, this prediction is based off the principle that people will vote their "main" as their most played character (in above example, the Norn Guardian) as their most played character, rather than the character that they enjoy the most (in the cases that they aren't the same character).  This is why I think Mesmer will be in the top tier, because not only do people enjoy it, but it has quite a bit of use in dungeons, fractals as well as WvW and PvP, so people can get a lot of play-time out of their Mesmers.  Plus, in some circumstances, PvE pug groups are more likely to pick a Mesmer over a Ranger or Engi, so again, Mesmer will probably have a top spot.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I voted my Asuran Thief as my main, so much fun to play on! :)

That's a good question.  I voted human ranger because Lady Rhonwyn will always be my main.  Even though I might play my other characters more once time progresses.  As soon as there's new content to be seen, I'll use Rhonwyn.

At time of writing, humans are leading and char are behind everyone else.

I definitely voted the one that gets the most playtime as she seems to be (or I feel most comfortable with it) the best for running dungeons. If I really disliked playing her, I wouldn't do it. If I would do other things than dungeon running, I may mainly play another class.

I... kinda like alts o.o

Asura Engineer.

So far Engi is least popular, but after going through the forums it seems they've been getting a bad reputation from players. Oh well. Mine kicks ass.

Asura is more popular than I'd expect, although I chalk up Norn/Char being so unpopular due to their bulk combined with the fidgety camera being a recipe for a pain in the ass.

Me too... But I only have one lvl 80 so for the sake of the poll I only mentioned that one (my human thief). I also have a lowbie human mesmer, and mid-level norn warrior, charr engineer and human guardian. And I've deleted about 10-15 characters so far - some of which in their late 20s (which is usually past my own "character deletion level" threshold o.O).

It was human thief. Human thief has taken a backseat to norn guardian. And since I voted in the poll, I took said norn guardian into sPvP...something I've been avoiding like the plague because I hate pvp. Starter loadout, didn't even bother changing traits from my pvp build made for gs/scepter-focus, and got top score on the win team in my first game. Norn guardian is where I'll be staying. It's just a perfect setup for my playstyle.

I think main will usually be associated with the first character you played through.

It's obvious that human would be the most picked choice. You could say it's out of habit, because we are more accustomed to humans. Or because they are the new embodiment of our GW1 mains and so we already have a stronger connection to that character over others from the start.

What profession will be mained is more out there. I'm surprised to see such a great amount of guardians over warriors though, although that could be explained by the magic/melee duality of the guardian. It's the best of both worlds really.

The funny thing is, if I had gotten the name I wanted, my main would have been an asuran ranger.  Now it's a lvl 80 sylvari ranger.

I'm stuck with my Norn Guardian from the headstart.  I'm just addicted to the class and the many builds and ideas I can play with in the way I want.  I also just love the Norn as a race and their lore.  And I've recently discovered that the Become The elites actually alter your stats, making for interesting things.. xD

Ugh I am split evenly between bot my Norn Ranger and my Charr Ele. My ele is more of my pvp main and my ranger is more of my pve main... So I couldn't vote twice. I am surprised that the mesmer has such a lead over thief... but I guess that is due to WvW. Here are some pictures of my two mains for some enjoyment.

I personally am suprised I stuck with my human Warrior.  I consider my main to be the character I put the most thought and overall time in.

I have gone through four different builds and my gear is a weird and eclectic patchwork of different bonus sets.  Were I to do it over again I would have just gone with Knights armor and Valkyrie accessories.  I yet may if I can find it in me to farm thar much.

After I leveled up a Sylvari thief I was pretty sure the Warrior would just be for farming and dungeons etc.  But to my surprise I kept on the Warrior.

My Norn Necro just hit 44 and I am pretty sure a Charr Guardian is next too.  But I have more or less resigned myself to leaving the Alts in rare gear.  Cannot afford to upgrade them all.

My most played and main are different characters.

My most played is a Norn Ranger that is level 80.  I played him a lot while on deployment and leveled to 80 in WvW.

My main is a Sylvari Thief that I play with my wife's Human Engineer.

I have a 3rd character that I typically play on Saturday afternoons or Friday nights with my wife and oldest (of 4 :P) son.  That one is a Charr Elementalist, my wife is a Charr Guardian, my son is a Charr Warrior.

I voted Norn Ranger since it is the one that I played the most, but the poll doesn't represent my play style to much.  I play to many alts.

Was just checking back in with this poll to see how the numbers were turning out and a few things surprised me.  The biggest surprise is how the races are playing out.  Obviously Human has the highest votes; there was no doubt in my mind (or most people's, I would say) that Human was going to take top honors for race.  What surprises me is that Sylvari are in second place followed by Asura, then Norn and Charr with the least votes.  I figured Charr would end up with the least votes, but I figured Norn would end up in the number 2 spot because they are most like Humans, rather than Sylvari.  I was also surprised by Asura being in third, ahead of the Norn as well.  I guess a lot of people like their funny little looks (of which I would be one, as my Asura thief is the toon I voted my main). :P

The classes are coming in at about where I thought, with two big surprises.  I figured Warrior would be higher and Ranger would be a lot lower.  I had no idea that Ranger would be tied for 3rd at the time of this post, given how many complaints I've seen about how annoying their pet system is and how some Rangers would prefer not to have a pet at all...or at least have that option.

Anyway, I hope more people keep voting as the numbers are being quite interesting!

Charr Warrior, like I always said I would back in the days of GW1. However, with all those clipping issues, I've wondered a few times whether I would be better off with a Human. That said, those attack animations are hilariously over-the-top, and I would miss that. Not to mention that running on all 4s is priceless.

Still can't understand why so many people play humans.  Yeah I get the whole "easier to identify with my character" bologna.  They're just so boring to me, I can be a human in pretty much any game ever.

My guess is that anyone who would choose Norn as their race because it looks like a Human ended up already choosing a Human as their main anyway (why choose the most similar when you can have the real thing?). Hence those who answered Norn in the poll include only people who truly enjoy Norns over Humans, not the people who enjoy Norns because they are similar to Humans.

This would be a result of the poll asking about their main character. On the other hand, if it was asking about the race of all characters each player has (not only the main one), I think Norns would rise considerably in the rank, since players who chose Human mains solely because they're.... errr, "human" looking, would be inclined to choose Norn alts (I imagine a reasonable number of people have lots of Human and Norn alts but few or no Charr, Sylvari and Asura).

Out of 34 alts, I have 3 Humans.  I have 2 Sylvari.  And one Charr. The rest are a mix of (mostly) Asura and some Norn.

Why?

In order:

First:  Culture/"Persona": Norn spirit connections / celebration and the Asura "scientific/engineering" approach.

Second:  Stories:  Love the Norn stories (particularly blackout) and the Asura sarcasm that runs rampant through their stories.

Last:  Asthetics: Mostly because the Norn and Asura have a "solid" look and feel. The Human females have always felt too skinny. And although I love the Sylvari looks, I cannot stand the female walk/run animation. Prefer the Norn hairstyles as well.

Yes, I choose Norn OVER human because I enjoy the Norn, not because they look similar.

Norn Warrior was the first character I rolled at release. And is now my main.

I voted as per the most time spent on a character, a human necromancer.

While I have alts of all the of races except Norn and all but two classes(Ranger and Guardian), I plan on having at least one of every race and class all to level 80.  I'm closing in on that goal with three level 80's, a level 73, a 15, and a 3.

I have every race and every profession.  All maxed to 80 but my Human Ele and Charr Mesmer.  They should be 80 in the next few weeks.  My original character and most hours played character is my Norn Warrior. I voted Charr Guardian due to the fact that I play it more lately because I have been doing mostly FOTM, Dungeons, and WvW.

My most favorite alt is my Asuran MM Necromancer.  I just find the Guardian to be a better Jack of All Trades alt and honestly I am lazy.

8 alts, main is a norn engineer.  All alts except one are norn.

really surprised ranger is as high as it is, and also surprised less norn than both sylvari and asura on the poll.  Considering norn are just big humans that actually look like adults instead of children like most humans do.

I really like my warrior as you can do great DPS, and be supportive at the same time. I run healing shouts, with knights gear, and a gs. My 100b hits for like 7-12k. Also, the health is just awsome! I'm pretty much useful in all situations.

My Sylvari Ele still is my favorite.  Even though I have less to do then grind out dungeons or Orr.

Been trying to play alts, slowly getting somewhere with them (just got my Necro to 45; everything else is under level 10).  But I find that I usually radiate towards using the same general weapons/"class" (ie. Staff Necro) in order to have some fun with it.

Surprised Mesmer has as many votes as it has.  Guess Mesmer has a pretty hardy following somewhere.  They still seem pretty rare these days. :(

My norn ranger is my only 80 at the moment and I usually log on her to just do whatever and maybe attempt a dungeon or something. I've also been gravitating towards my engineer for sPvP lately, although I'm way too lazy to try and level her for a while. My human elementalist is 18, and everyone else is underneath that. Too many characters, not enough hours in the day to level them all.

I've been seeing a ton of mesmers in sPvP more than anything. I had like two or three on my team and like two on the other just a few hours ago. They're clinging on by a thread, although I think people get somewhat scared off by how complex people make the profession out to be.

Have only two characters at 80 - both rangers. Human was my first but Asuran my current. Maybe go the total opposite next with a Charr Guardian!
