After completing a majority of things in GW1, Nicholas was one of the reasons I traveled around the map weekly. He would appear in a different location and hand out 5 gifts per account in trade for mostly worthless junk.  Opening the "free" gifts were a pleasure that could be repeated weekly.  The local towns would fill up and become the party location for that week.  I know Anet has a lot of things to fix in the game, but bringing Nick back would help poplulate some of the less visited areas.

The man's been dead for almost 250 years. Let the old man rest in peace :)

Unfortunately, Nick and Professor Yakington are dead and buried. You can still visit them in the Ebon Hawk memorial cemetary if you'd like.

As for the idea of something like this coming back, hey why not?  Though, it sounds like the ideas for the "new" daily achievements will be more a mish-mash of Nick and the Zaishen quests.  One thing I don't miss about Nick was grinding for all the stupid trophies every week.

It was an enjoyable mechanic, and I wouldn't be against seeing something similar introduced to GW2.  Could be done in a number of ways; the ghost of Nick, a descendent keeping the legacy alive "I am a traveler much like my father before me, and his father and...", or just something loosely based on the general concept.

I would love to see another Nicholas the Traveler and Professor Yakington in GW2!   However I would not want to have to save all the worthless junk items I get and promptly sell to the nearest merchant all the time.

I do indeed miss him.  Good times.  I would not be opposed to something similar in GW2.

I certainly do miss the hell out of him. This game currently needs more reasons to get people into underpopulated zones, so I think bringing something like this back would be a great idea. Of course, some sort of decent initiative would be necessary (new armor, weapons, mini pets, etc). If this were done, I certainly would hope it would somehow be a nod to Nicholas' fans. However, this would be pretty hard without breaking lore. The woman he had been in love with died in the Searing, so a descendant would be a bit off. Him coming back as a ghost would almost certainly be 10x cheesier.

During the Beta they actually had a character that did travel around with her trusty dog. She was based on an actuall person who traveled around the US with her dog. Anet even had her come to there office and play the game before they even went to beta. That's when they showed her her character in the game. Not sure if she is still in the game or where to find her. I'm sure she is still in the game but I would assume she still is.

Has anyone seen her roaming around?

I saw her in the Black Citadel a week or two ago.

I would love to see the old guy back in some form or something like it but i don't see it happening now till its later down the line of the game. It was suppose to keep us to playing GW1 till GW2 came out. XD

Nope, not at all... grindy farming for some free rng loot isn't really something to be missed, nor is the burden on storing all your crap 'trophy' drops 'just in case'.

If Anet's 'precursor' scavenger hunt turns out to be anything remotely like Nicholas the Traveler and his incessant demands for quantities of obscure crap... I'll punch a dolyak in the face.

Really the dailies and the monthlies have taken the place of Nicholas the Traveler and the Zaishen quests from GW1.

I don't really miss the traveler's farm quests but I did really enjoy the character.  There's a reason my guardian has Yakkington's armor with Runes of the traveler :)

They could have it be some kind of fan. Like, someone heard his story and was inspired to follow in his footsteps.

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.

<Raises hand>

But even more than Nicholas the Traveler, I miss Nicholas Sandford from pre-searing more. Every GW session since about a month after I started, began with me logging on my perma-pre and visiting Nick in the secret graden.

Even though Nick and the prof are long gone, there could be an actual or spiritual descendant. There are many travelling merchants one can meet in Tyria such as Denton and the Chief or the charr with sylvari escort trading guns and booze. Even if ArenaNet don't add a Nick descendant, they could expand upon one or more of the existing merchants and have them move from town to town throughout the whole of Tyria trading different items at each stop. Perhaps even a new escort DE could be started each time they move.

I never grinded for the gifts. Being the magpie/packrat hoarder that am, I almost always had enough of what he wanted to get at least 1 gift. Only a couple of times I didn't have enough for a gift, but I went out anyway to say hi and look around to see if there was anything I missed previously.

As long as he's not returning as risen .... :o

Of course he can have descendants too .. I was actually wondering where's all the descendsnts of our old GW heroes, Alesia, Koss, Mhenlo, Cynn and such .. at least I assume the people of Tyria don't grow out of trees like Sylvari?!

There are currently a group of four (or possibly five i cant remember) decendants of henchman that we used to run with in Prophecies in the east part of Divinity Reach. Also I assume as we get more content and expansions we will start to see more about our past friends, and possibly even a hint at the original player character. Oh just remembered another one Jhavi Jorasdottir. Knowing how things happened in the past most of the Ascalonian heroes probably settled in Kryta, only two went to Ebonhawke, we might see decendants from some of the other places, but it seems like lorewise they would have gone back after EOTN to take care of their personal homelands, Mhenlo and Cynn may have gone to Cantha but thats up in the air since Mhenlo was only the temporary headmaster of Shing Jea Monestary so they may have come back. As well Nicholas decendants are probably in Ebonhawke since that is his burial place. One of the things I personally want to find is Devona's Rest, they said all the server names are named after actual places in GW2 you can go to, so hopefully we find it at some point.

zaishen quest series (kill x boss, clear y area, beat z mission) I would like much more than nicholas and the prof, but if they introduced a similar concept I wouldn't be angry, just kinda indifferent.

There is a kid in Fireheart Rise, who is looking for grawl necklaces for his friend Nick. He says its a family tradition. Maybe they are planning to bring this quest back with Nicholas' descendant.

They are doing something like this with the new options for the daily and possibly monthly achivements. Having more of it might keep players together for a while and give some motivation to do something other than dungeons.

I would love to have that quest again and with his descendant mentioned in game, it's already partly set up. Having a summoning stone for a 30 minute level appropriate pet would be nice to have. It would help the people who are soloing or in small groups. The other stuff he gave you (alcohol, sweets, and party items) wouldn't be very useful unless they brought back the relevant titles.

A couple weeks ago, a friend took me to the cemetery in Ebonhawke. I spent too long walking around all of the graves and trying to figure out what names I had heard and where they were from. When I got to Nick and Yakkington, I almost lost it (like I did with Gwen's grave). When I saw some trinket with the Yakkington name, I did lose it.

So, yes, I do miss Nick and the Yak. Just like I miss Gwen and Kieran and all the other heroes we knew before.

But I don't really want Nick to come back just yet. I'm still trying to get through the main story.

You didn't have to grind for them. You could have just bought them from me. ;) I loved the grind and made a fortune off of lazy players (you know the type game genie age, uses game cheat codes etc etc. hehe). For me WEALTH was the big thing in GW1. I loved having oodles of stacks of ectos and gems and such. So, having a sort of Traveler back in GW2 would be great. I might actually start playing it more but as it is I'm mostly back in GW1 grinding the resoures and making even more because there are less grinders/farmers than before so getting 2k each for a resource is easy now.
