A question from a lvl 80 Thief who has only played the Engineer in PvP..

The Engineer has a lot of knockback abilities (rather than knockdown), how useful is it in dungeon/fractal PvE?
E.G. are most bosses immune or is it a reliable utility for one's arsenal?

I will more than likely level a Necro or Mesmer in PvE next if knockback is not as effective as I expect..

Knockback works great on trash. Not so much with bosses, since you have to wait for Defiance to wear off at the right moment to use it.

Other then that, your party wont be to happy if you kick said trash mobs out of their aoe and combo fields.

It is useful for specific encounters where you must somehow move the boss or prevent it from getting somewhere ie: AC lovers

It should not be spammed on cooldown as generic CC, that's for sure.

You can use it to kick targets back into your party's aoes.

I use the flamethrower's pushback mainly on trash to push them back into the aoe fields or if I need to escape due to not being able to tank the mob.  sometimes I use BoB on enemies if they are next to a wall, but I mainly use that as a blast finisher to give might stacks with bomb #2.  really the only 2 I use often since I run dual pistols for weapons.

Depending on the cool down of the ability in question, it can be a good way to burn off defiance stacks on bosses, and it's certainly good for encounters with a lot of mobs to herd them or keep them off of something.
