My girlfriend claims that, when she was exploring Mount Maelstrom around this area,

she encountered some creature. From her words it is something similar to the Diablo Treasure Goblin. First there was a chest in the bushes, when she tries to open it that creature popped out and started running, dropping some kind of shiny bottles, which she was able to loot. Then she chased him down and killed. Unfortunately she didn't take any screenshots, so I'm very sceptical about that story. Have any of you guys seen something like this?

Yeah it's true and it's happening all over Tyria. Happened to me in Queensdale. Some skritt came out of the bushes and started running, turning me into a chicken or whatever and dropping some bags (open them for loot) and whenever I caught the poor little skritt I got something - weapon / armor pieces - crappy, but still.

The Treasure-Thief Skritt events were added in either the Halloween or the Wintersday updates, and I've encountered them all around the world, except for Orr.

Usually you have to do something to get access to a chest (climb up somewhere/compete an event/get past a champ) so if you see one just lying around unguarded you know a skrit is going to pop out of it.

As a reminder, Q&A is not the place for chitchat. Posting stuff which has nothing to do with the question and would only derail a thread asked will get deleted.

I've encountered this Skritt about 3 times. He is a speedy little number. Before you open the chest, make sure you have a speed buff ready and have a ranged weapon equipped. If you don't he will easily outrun you, especially since he runs thru hostile mobs which will slow you down.

good info in quote.  also, while attacking him he also will turn you into a chicken or something.  Slow downs don't effect him as well, and as it stands I've never encountered him in a zone where the loot he dropped was that great...normally he's been in lower level zones than even maelstrom.

I've probably seen him 4 times, and 3 of them have been in wayfarer foothills and the other was in snowden drifts.

Skritt burglar randomly drops loot bags or turns you and/or surrounding non-hostile creatures into one of four animals, depending on the area you find him at. Siamoth, Chicken, Jackalope, raccoon. Each has its own explorer achievement. If you're going for that, take a fast-attacking low-level ranged weapon. He's got permanent stability and is immune to immobilize. He does have rather low health so anything ranged if you clear the area around him will work. He'll slow you with chill and cripple. If you're just after the loot, don't waste your time because he gives crap blues and the occasional green.
