Flame and Frost: Prelude - January Update 2013

Arenanet has just announced the information and created the event page for the January update, Flame and Frost. This update is a prelude, meaning it is meant as a preparation for the upcoming months. The update will go live on January 28.

The update also brings new features, such as achievement updates, laurel currency, guesting,
new utility infusions and ascended amulets, and overall enhancements and updates. Make sure to check out the event page for the full details!

I'm mostly excited for the new story. I hope it focuses on Norn and Charr lore (the coolest races anyway )

I am hoping the new rewards aren't account bound. I mean, I clearly will not be upgrading to ascended gear, so I hope I can turn in my crowns and sell the rewards on the TP.

Also, the backpack is wrong on so many levels.

Everything else you can buy with tokens is account or character bound after all.

I think it might just reference the areas (ie Flame for Charr lands, Frost for North Norn/Kodan Lands) Jormag would make sense but I don't know about Primordus

If Primordus still resides in or near the Central Transfer Chamber, where it woke up, it could be possible since the location of the CTC is under the mountain range separating Fireheart Rise and Frostgorge Sound

As I recall, it had been announced that. although Primordus woke in the CTC, after his waking he proceeded to move around through the old Dwarven/Asuran tunnels in the depths of Tyria.  So, I'm not sure there'd be any reason to suspect him to be there anymore.  Judging by where you find Destroyers in game, it would seem he is more to the south (I can think of major destroyer spawns in Mount Maelstrom, Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Kessex Hills... am I missing any?)

You're right, now that I re-read the Primordus article in the wiki, it seems it's been moving around quite a bit... at least the ice caves northeast of Fireheart Rise could be one possible entryway to the Depths of Tyria when they do open

Looking forward to its content, albeit that settles that Fractals won't be overdone until much later.

So new ascended infusions? The 30+ gold I spent on infusing my current ascended gear left a bad taste in my mouth, I was glad it was at least going to last for a while.

To find out the most optimal combination for my build may now be available really pisses me off. I wish I would have waited! Correction, I wish Anet would have given us a heads up that more changes to our gear was coming down!

I sincerely hope they added the ability to salvage ascended gear to reuse the mats! That would make up for it I would hope. Or here's an early good-bye to half of my savings... again!

Anet haven't you guys learn anything from the flame of the last changes?

ArenaNet did give us heads up. They were extremely clear when they announced Ascended gear that there would come more infusions and Ascended pieces over the coming year.

They  gave you a heads up quit a few times.  I'm sorry your feeling of "exclusivity" is gone, but the announced (ever since the November update), that Ascended would be slowly phased in to be less exclusive and more attainable.  This is part one of that process.

I know ascended gear was expanding beyond trinkets etc, that's not what I have an issues with.

Show me the specific post or news release where they said new infusions were coming this soon, perhaps I missed it. If no such info exists  then my complaint is still valid.

If I would have known new infusions were coming about then I would have just spent fractal relics to get the simple ones from that golem fractal vendor.

So, why would it matter if new infusions came now or if they came in 6 months? They would still come.

Interesting that they are using a horse on their Facebook banner for the event btw..

How is that interesting? If you're thinking of mounts then they've already addressed that recently.
