I see that kind of complaint all the time, from both PVE and PVP oriented players. One side is all grumpy because the other is getting some attention from the devs, then the other side gets attention and the first is grumpy. It doesn't need to be that way. Both sides get attention, and neither side gets everything fixed. I'm a PVE player, and I think it's great when PVP gets things fixed. I don't see it as taking away from my interests, and don't understand why anyone would think it does. Can you explain why you feel that way? I'd really like to understand.

I'm making an unbiased observation. I'm a PvE/Dungeon runner as much as I am a wPvP junkie...I can't say much for sPvP because it's about as appealing as any other game with one mode and a clunky reward system. Simply put I'm truly unimpressed and flat out disinterested in the sPvP game mode which I traditionally spend all of my time on in other games.

GW2 has strong PvE...one would dare say the best in the business. That being said it's one thing to play to ones strength and a while different thing to nearly ignore ones weakness. There are gaping holes that need to be filled in the game in general that continue to go unaddressed or openly put off for later by the developers. In the wake of these problems they offer more PvE focused content...which is literally the only focus for all previous additions to existing content in the game thus far (holiday events, lost shores, fractals, and now this). What has sPvP gotten? New maps, same game mode, nothing new on the table there so I'm still disinterested. What has wPvP gotten? A new event type (breakout events) and some much needed game balances, but fundamentally nothing compared to Lost Shores or Fractals.

This is a blanket opinion of what the developers have shown themselves to favor in their game, and that favor has time and time and time and now time again proven to be in the interest of the PvE community.

Isnt it too soon for Jormag and Primordius? Maybe Flame is some big Destroyer boss and Frost another lieutenant of Jormag

And both of those would technically be Jormag and Primordus, even if we don't face them directly ;)

And they have stated quite clearly the last month or so that the January update will have rather little content, but build up for bigger releases in February and March.

Doesn't mean it will happen. They have under delivered more often than not.

Definitely getting that one.

The only important thing for me is:

More Upgrades and Improvements

Posted Image
We’re making a ton of other improvements to the game this month, such as enhanced performance in WvW, tweaks to the dynamic level adjustment system, and UI improvements, which will be detailed in our release notes.

Rest doesn't matter for me, the casual player.
I'm not here to bitch about the update. I appreciate it. 700 hours and still having a blast.
But really? When they promise something, better keep it.
Shouldn't they have told me about all that great things coming - I wouldn't be writing this.
But as I was promised alot - I expected a lot.
What I get is a few (pretty nice tho) rewards for daily/monthly achieves, guesting that destroys my playstyle and "More upgrades and Improvements". They better be good. Oh, and a cute backpack.

What remains unchanged?
Dying sPvP.
Empty zones (mostly mid-lvl ones, starter ones are pretty well populated).
Boring boss-fights, means boring dungeons.

So, where were you promised all those tweaks in this update?

We know that the February update will be rather big for sPvP and WvW. We have known for more or less a month that the January update would be quite small.

I guess they want to deter people from farming dynamic events and such for the karma, and they want to encourage people to do the achievements even if they normally don't.
I'm looking forward to the added achievement variety - doing the same 4 every day got annoying.

yeah I think they want to limit the rewards so the prices don't have to be sky high. If it was for karma then you'd either get everything easy or have to grind events or whatever to get tonnes of karma. It's only fair they have different price and item scales for different currencies.

I sure hope that the new amulets will also be dropped from the fractal chest! i'm not really into the daily thing, so it would be nice if aside from those tokens, the fractals ones will also be useful for that.

I don't want to farm Fractals forever, I want to be rewarded for playing the parts of the game that are actually part of the setting and storyline. FotM is fine as a standalone dungeon, but its almost like a mini-game in how outside of the rest of the world and unrelated to anything it is.

Looks really cool. The Quagaan backpacks remind me of those backpacks you see on the backs of bikers.. Merchantising opportunity perhaps?

I could see this thing being marketed along with a Quaggan t-shirt, plastic slurpee travel coffee mug and tractor hat.

I don't plan to get the backpack in game.

And I can understand why a lot of players (including my college-age daughter) are delighted to see this. :)

- Excitedly looking forward to the other  new content. ;)

BUT what about the fractal improvements they promised ?

such as;

- disconnecting people
- fractal level *chooser* (easier to find groups for new people)

OR are they included in the 'ton of other improvements' ?

It is included.
These are not release notes, they are very basic information and highlights of the release.

All of the earlier releases did have stuff not mention at the event page.

How is that interesting? If you're thinking of mounts then they've already addressed that recently.

Well technically mounts are already in guild wars 2, the witch's broom stick is a mount, it just doesn't give you any speed boost. Also they mention putting the broom sticks in the gem store again with this update.

"Riding Brooms" im guessing is like or similar to the witch's broomstick from halloween.

Here is an example of mounts in Guild Wars 2, some random person recorded me on my warrior alt Naked surfing charr. :) Shinzu Takigawa.

So with the update saying there bringing riding brooms to the gem store, they are technically mounts, they just don't give a massive speed boost or anything.

So for me that counts as mounts already being in the game and they are definetly looking at it later down the road or in the future, looking at it does not mean the are definetly doing it but I reckon they are exploring the idea.

Something like "cosmetic mounts" that give no real advantage or extra speed.

I'm not doubting the possibility, for all the pro's and con's... however all I meant was that Colin's said recently they're not currently looking at it, so can't imagine them arriving in this patch :D

Does anyone know what will happen with mystic coins? Since they are being removed from the daily and monthly is there another way to get them or are they being removed from the game entirely?

Where does it say they are removing mystic coins? I doubt they will since you need them for legendary's, mystic clovers, infusions and mystic weapons.

When did they say they are removing those from dailies/monthlies?

From what I understood from the live chat transcripts, the Laurels are only an addition to the current daily/monthly achievement rewards, what made you think they'd remove the Mystic Coins?.

I just figured they were since they said nothing about them just that you will be rewarded with this new currency for completing the dailies/monthlies. Do you have something that confirms they will be rewarded the exact same as they are now?

Ah thank you. Usually when I hear they are revamping an entire system I figure old rewards will be gone...that's just based off of experience with mmos in general. They specifically didn't mention what will be happening with the jugs or with the coins at least that I could see.

Did I mention that I really love that you can acquire your ascended neckpiece through dailies? I hated the RNG kinda bullshit the fractals tied their ascended pieces to and much rather get it steadily than have one person run around with 50 rings, cursing whenever they get one because they just clog up bank space - while another desperately tries to get the two sets of rings he wants (the flawless relics where a step into the right direciton with that, but still a bad compensation).

Sounds like a rather fair system. Of course there won't be any prestige to be had through them - but that's what flashy weapons are for anyway.

Of course they are, quaggans are awesome.
It will be focusing on the Norn and the Charr, as it will be taking place in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. At least that's what I got out of the information page.

Apparently ANet has faith in it (for good reason), otherwise they wouldn't add it. That Quaggan is the Katniss Everdeen of the ANet empire. I really would like it if they released statistics about it, though. The true question is: Will it have stats/be transmutable (transmutable would suck) or will we only be able to wear it with our town clothes?

View PostLordkrall, on 22 January 2013 - 05:22 PM, said:

No I am not thinking about mounts. I simply think that it is a bit weird to use a picture of an animal that have not been seen in the world for over 250 years.
I wouldn't entirely rule out horses, and at this point it's important to specify - as others have pointed out: the broom is basically a mount. Though they aren't going to be in the game (there's a quote from Regina somewhere on this thread, I think page 2... but I lost it) with THIS update, but in the future, it might happen. Hate to be the person to bring it up once again, but the world of Tyria is gargantuan. It's entirely possible that horses exist somewhere that we'll reach in a future expansion. *shrug* Plus, horses have appeared in other, older GW2 concept art, but I can't find that picture, either.

Anyone else just really hoping for a solid story and storytelling? So much potential in this game to put out story arcs that actually enhance the feeling that serious things are happening in Tyria. These story arcs would be a great way to introduce characters that can come up in discussions here like heroes from GW.

I want to see characters fleshed out. All the game mechanic stuff is cool and I trust ANet to keep improving on that, but I'm hoping for more than static two-person dialogues to tell these potentially great stories. (The concept art makes me think of norn and charr exodus or something...I imagine the possibilities of revamping starter zones to look familiar but hold new enemies, new secrets, and new pathways, etc)

THATS what I continue to hope for. :)

Before ranting that we aren't getting enough out of this update.. Remember its a free update and we don't require any subscription to play. Many games charge much more and deliver much less.
Not saying GW2 is perfect, but I've gotten my money's worth already and I'm still playing. People expecting endless enjoyment just have their sights set too high in my opinion.
